The WESTCO-UNL Field Day for FFA students was held in Gering and at the Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center in Scottsbluff.

[00:00:00.360]FFA youth from around the Panhandle came together on Wednesday, August 28th for the Westco UNL Field Day in Gering and at the Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center in Scottsbluff.
[00:00:11.880]In the morning, half of the 250 students were at the center. Troy White, UNL Assistant Professor of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication, explained more of what the students did at the center.
[00:00:24.280]It's our first time teaming up and we have a whole bunch of activities here related to different ag-related things. We've got weed and pest identification, we've got pathology, we've got farm and ranch management, livestock systems, water systems, giving the kids a chance to do some hands-on activities here and learn about some of these systems.
[00:00:45.880]Bill Gifford, Ag Education Instructor at Banner County High School, said his students enjoyed the Weed ID Walk, led by
[00:00:54.260]Nevin Lawrence, Nebraska Extension Integrated Weed Management Specialist.
[00:00:58.200]But yeah, they're learning. He gave us some great tips on how to identify certain plants and some interesting facts about those certain plants too, so that was great.
[00:01:06.840]You know, their interests vary quite a bit from, all the way from plants to animals to, there's a little bit of a technology involved today too, so I think we're going to see them in several different areas.
[00:01:23.240]Students also rotated to
[00:01:25.020]stations at the WESTCO Corn Plots east of Gering. Greta Birch, WESTCO Precision Ag Specialist,
[00:01:31.420]and Cole Vejraska, WESTCO Agronomy Sales Manager, said this is the third year for the event.
[00:01:37.500]So it's been a growing process. I mean, I think the first year was pretty
[00:01:42.220]small. I mean, we didn't have as many chapters and it seemed like year two it just exploded.
[00:01:49.900]And I think a lot of chapters are here today, but I did hear David talking about Bayard.
[00:01:57.260]This is the first time in three years that they've actually been able to be here due to
[00:02:01.400]scheduling other events and things. And they were really excited and really tickled to be here.
[00:02:07.720]Our main goal is to learn and teach, but at the same time, just expose kids to the idea of careers
[00:02:16.120]in agriculture and various different aspects.
[00:02:18.740]Yeah, we try to have all of our stations really focus on hands-on activities.
[00:02:22.740]The feed station where they have a cow with the cannula, yeah, that's been a big hit. They really
[00:02:32.620]seem to enjoy hopping up in these big rigs and getting to see that, but really good feedback.
[00:02:38.480]The day also had some college recruiters for students interested in pursuing careers in
