[00:00:00.000]The Dr. Plant Health program is unique from other graduate programs in that it's
[00:00:15.760]a professional degree program. We're learning to develop a very deep and
[00:00:21.000]broad knowledge base and then utilize experiential opportunities to really
[00:00:26.040]deepen the understanding and the applicability of the of the program and
[00:00:30.120]the knowledge base that they're gaining.
[00:00:33.380]I think there are a few unique things about the DPH program. I think first and
[00:00:40.020]foremost our emphasis on applying the knowledge that we learn in classes
[00:00:43.800]rather than focusing solely on one discipline and getting really granular
[00:00:49.200]and theoretical in some cases. We look at the whole picture and try to see how the
[00:00:54.560]pieces fit together.
[00:00:55.760]And then extend that to real-world situations.
[00:00:59.060]I'm on the ground. My boots are in those fields and that's what I'm doing is to help try to make sure that we have
[00:01:05.060]a sustainable food chain, that we have sustainable farms, and that we're taking care of the environment
[00:01:09.690]all at the same time. This program is really about all of these things together. It's not
[00:01:16.210]any one piece. It's not any isolation. It's about personal development to build you up to be a
[00:01:22.370]problem solver. And if I get thrown into any one situation, I'm prepared for it. I don't have to
[00:01:27.570]stop and call the expert in soils, stop and call the expert in plant pathology. I am that expert
[00:01:33.710]in a lot of these things. I hope to use my DPH degree to change the world through playing my
[00:01:39.710]small role in mitigating climate change. Myself, along with other DPH alumni and the people that we
[00:01:45.230]collaborate with, will really help make that future a reality. The impact of the doctor plant health
[00:01:51.410]program, I think, is creating careers for students that can make an impact anywhere that plants grow.
