The annual Panhandle Agriculture Research and Technology Tour will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, at the UNL Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center in Scottsbluff. Entomologist Dr. Pin Chu Lai explains what growers will learn at her tour stop.

[00:00:10.140]Entomology will be among the morning tour stops, and Dr. Pinchu Lai, Nebraska Extension entomologist,
[00:00:16.460]explains more on the information that will be found at her tour stop.
[00:00:20.760]At part this year, the entomology program will be showcasing a study conducted at the center
[00:00:27.120]focusing on a tiny insect pest called thrips in dry bean production. Specifically, we will talk
[00:00:33.200]about the efficacy of seed treatment on thrips infestation and the susceptibility of different
[00:00:39.140]type of beans to thrips. You'll learn about what thrips are, what kind of damage they cause in
[00:00:44.530]dry beans, and how we try to figure out if you can save money on seed treatments. We will also
[00:00:50.510]talk about some other common insect pests in dry bean, corn, sugar beet, and wheat, and we will
[00:00:56.870]have some specimens for those common insect pests, so you will have a chance to learn what they look
[00:01:02.450]like and be able to recognize them if they show up in your field and cause damage. PART is a free
[00:01:09.430]event and begins with registration at 8 a.m. on August 22nd. A lunch will be served. To register,
