- [00:00:00.709]This is Amy Timmerman with Nebraska Extension and this weeks Extension update.
- [00:00:06.029]LandLink is a Nebraska Extension program designed to connect new
- [00:00:09.839]and beginning farmers and ranchers with retiring landowners interested
- [00:00:13.530]in transitioning their land to new owners.
- [00:00:17.250]Access to land remains one of the most significant challenges for new farmers.
- [00:00:21.530]The high costs of land, livestock, and equipment make it difficult
- [00:00:25.790]for them to acquire these essential capital assets.
- [00:00:29.540]For traditional multi-generational farms or ranches, transitioning assets
- [00:00:33.600]and management from one generation to the next can be easier to plan for.
- [00:00:38.491]However, when a farmer or rancher lacks a child willing to take over
- [00:00:42.491]the operation, the retirement path becomes less clear.
- [00:00:46.780]Many landowners, who are asset-rich but cash-poor,
- [00:00:50.421]need to earn income from their land, equipment, and livestock for retirement
- [00:00:56.006]while transitioning away from the labor and management of their operation.
- [00:01:00.020]Nebraska Land Link is currently accepting
- [00:01:02.740]applications from interested land seekers and landowners.
- [00:01:06.800]The program aims to provide land access through lease agreements,
- [00:01:10.800]lease-to-own arrangements, buy-sell arrangements, or other
- [00:01:14.820]creative methods that are mutually beneficial for both parties.
- [00:01:18.910]Currently there is a landowner in Boyd County interested in
- [00:01:22.620]connecting with a new or beginning producer.
- [00:01:25.920]After an interested land seeker or landowner applies to Nebraska Land Link,
- [00:01:30.720]the application will be reviewed by Extension personnel.
- [00:01:34.210]They will guide participants through the process of
- [00:01:36.710]finding a match and provide educational support along the way.
- [00:01:41.070]Landowners will have opportunities to interview and review applications
- [00:01:45.120]submitted by land seekers to screen for shared values, skills, and interests.
- [00:01:50.510]For more information, visit your local Extension
- [00:01:53.495]office or go to cap.unl.edu.
