- [00:00:00.000]Researching companies ahead of
- [00:00:01.550]the career fair is an important
- [00:00:02.880]strategy to help you discover
- [00:00:04.800]who you might actually want to
- [00:00:06.200]talk to at the fair and some
- [00:00:07.490]basic information about those
- [00:00:08.960]companies.
- [00:00:09.920]I would encourage you to check
- [00:00:11.250]out companies that you're
- [00:00:12.420]interested in even if you're
- [00:00:13.680]not sure if
- [00:00:14.320]they hire your major or not. A
- [00:00:16.030]lot of our employers are
- [00:00:17.270]looking to hire students from
- [00:00:19.010]all majors,
- [00:00:19.840]so it's definitely worth it to
- [00:00:21.260]check them out and decide to
- [00:00:22.590]talk to them at the fair if you're
- [00:00:24.000]interested in learning more.
- [00:00:25.690]Researching companies ahead of
- [00:00:27.380]time helps us to create great
- [00:00:28.950]questions
- [00:00:29.520]that we can ask and use to
- [00:00:30.770]engage with those companies at
- [00:00:32.440]the career fair. It shows our
- [00:00:34.160]employers that you really cared
- [00:00:35.630]about having a conversation
- [00:00:36.900]with them and took the time to
- [00:00:38.320]prepare ahead of time. We want
- [00:00:40.070]to ask better questions than "so
- [00:00:41.710]what does your company do?"
- [00:00:43.200]and research is going to help
- [00:00:44.480]us figure out what those better
- [00:00:45.840]questions would be.
- [00:00:46.960]You can also see if companies
- [00:00:48.570]have any opportunities posted
- [00:00:50.400]and that can help you stand out
- [00:00:51.820]as a candidate. You can ask
- [00:00:53.210]questions about specific
- [00:00:54.640]internships
- [00:00:55.200]or job opportunities that you've
- [00:00:56.920]found and you can also make
- [00:00:58.260]sure that you,
- [00:00:59.040]you communicate to the employer
- [00:01:00.390]what kinds of skills you would
- [00:01:01.680]bring to the table
- [00:01:02.720]that would make you a great fit
- [00:01:04.050]for those types of positions
- [00:01:05.350]that they have posted.
- [00:01:06.400]All that being said, you don't
- [00:01:08.910]have to be an expert. Just
- [00:01:10.930]knowing a little bit about the
- [00:01:12.080]company and the kinds of things
- [00:01:13.640]they do and who they might hire
- [00:01:15.140]is really going to help
- [00:01:16.320]you be prepared for those
- [00:01:17.430]conversations. We just want to
- [00:01:18.810]show our employers that we care
- [00:01:20.480]that they've come to our career
- [00:01:21.710]fair and that you're excited to
- [00:01:22.940]be having that conversation
- [00:01:24.160]with them. You can always stop
- [00:01:25.910]by the help desk at the career
- [00:01:27.360]fair if you need some
- [00:01:28.560]some more help preparing for
- [00:01:29.700]conversations with employers.
