- [00:00:00.000]Hello, I'm Allison Doctor, and
- [00:00:03.750]I'm a career coach with the
- [00:00:04.900]College of Arts and Sciences.
- [00:00:05.900]I'm here to talk about
- [00:00:06.930]introductions and getting the
- [00:00:08.450]conversation started at the
- [00:00:09.910]career fair.
- [00:00:10.740]Your introductions don't need
- [00:00:12.160]to take that long, only about
- [00:00:13.530]20 or so seconds, enough time
- [00:00:15.170]to get the conversation going.
- [00:00:16.280]You can start with your name,
- [00:00:17.640]your major, and your year in
- [00:00:18.950]school, and maybe some involvements
- [00:00:20.690]you have.
- [00:00:21.340]These could be student
- [00:00:22.400]organizations, part-time jobs,
- [00:00:24.060]or internships that you have,
- [00:00:25.820]especially if they're related
- [00:00:27.260]to the employer or the
- [00:00:28.220]organization that you're
- [00:00:29.420]interested in talking to at
- [00:00:30.680]that booth.
- [00:00:31.420]This is a great place to
- [00:00:32.860]emphasize the skills you have
- [00:00:34.790]as they relate to the
- [00:00:36.090]organization and your past
- [00:00:37.870]experiences.
- [00:00:39.060]It's also a great time to
- [00:00:40.380]emphasize the research that you
- [00:00:42.180]may have done ahead of time.
- [00:00:43.920]You can ask the person that you're
- [00:00:45.660]talking with at the booth
- [00:00:47.060]questions that you're
- [00:00:48.160]interested in about that
- [00:00:49.470]organization.
- [00:00:50.500]Maybe what are some of the
- [00:00:51.490]current projects they have
- [00:00:52.580]going on?
- [00:00:53.100]How do they relate to their
- [00:00:54.420]missions?
- [00:00:55.820]How do they relate to their
- [00:00:57.300]work?
- [00:00:57.820]Information like that.
- [00:00:59.820]And that's a great way to get
- [00:01:00.460]the conversation going, is by
- [00:01:01.290]ending with a question.
- [00:01:01.820]If you would like to practice
- [00:01:02.650]your introduction with a career
- [00:01:03.590]coach,
- [00:01:03.820]we encourage you to do so by
- [00:01:05.940]scheduling an appointment
- [00:01:07.360]through Student Success Hub
- [00:01:09.080]prior to the career fair.
- [00:01:10.820]We'll see you there!
