- [00:00:51.353]Whether you are just now receiving your degree,
- [00:00:53.832]or if you've had your degree for 50 plus years,
- [00:00:56.804]you have value, you have qualities of leadership within you.
- [00:01:01.980]Where you are today is exactly where you're meant to be.

- [00:01:26.952]But I did want to share one key relationship
- [00:01:29.370]that I forged, and it was through Professor Hoistad.
- [00:01:33.210]So when I was in sixth year, you know, we got
- [00:01:35.640]to choose back then what your thesis would be.
- [00:01:38.340]And I was very interested in sports architecture.
- [00:01:41.340]And so back then, to many of you, this will be shocking.
- [00:01:44.550]But there was not this thing called the internet.
- [00:01:46.830]And so you had to think about and research in different ways
- [00:01:49.980]and actually talk to people.
- [00:01:51.660]And so Professor Hoistad set me up with an alumni
- [00:01:54.690]who was working in the sports architecture world.
- [00:01:57.150]And so he opened my eyes to that
- [00:02:00.270]and it would impact my entire career
- [00:02:02.370]and set me off with the last 28 years.
- [00:02:04.140]So that I'm grateful.

- [00:02:09.141]Well I remember walking up to Architecture Hall,
- [00:02:11.460]and I'm a sucker for old buildings.
- [00:02:13.560]And I knew as I was starting to walk up the steps,
- [00:02:15.900]that there was going to be an interesting phone call
- [00:02:17.910]with my wife later that afternoon,
- [00:02:19.860]because this is where we belong.
- [00:02:25.230]For five decades, we've worked together to plan
- [00:02:28.680]and design, the built environment.
- [00:02:30.570]Creating a more resilient, healthy, and beautiful world.
- [00:02:34.260]And I cannot wait, to roll up our sleeves together,
- [00:02:37.230]and see what the next 50 looks like.
