- [00:00:04.440]Seth Wright spends most of his free time
- [00:00:06.420]in the wood shop at Nebraska Innovation Campus.
- [00:00:09.330]For some reason, this old wood smells like lemons.
- [00:00:11.520]I'm not really sure why. It's not lemon wood, so.
- [00:00:14.940]The Husker junior learned woodworking
- [00:00:16.710]at Innovation Studio so he could build his favorite game.
- [00:00:19.890]My interest in woodworking started
- [00:00:21.540]because I like to play cornhole,
- [00:00:24.720]and I was thinking to myself,
- [00:00:26.910]well, I could go over to the Nebraska Innovation Campus
- [00:00:29.670]and make myself a set of cornhole boards.
- [00:00:32.742](table saw whirring)
- [00:00:35.222]I think the only downside to Innovation Studio
- [00:00:36.780]is that it's not open 24-7,
- [00:00:38.250]because if it was, I would be here 24-7,
- [00:00:41.490]but that's also probably good because I need to, you know,
- [00:00:45.750]eat, sleep, and study on my schooling.
- [00:00:49.080]To get more practice working with wood,
- [00:00:51.210]Wright discovered a place to find free material.
- [00:00:53.850]And so I decided I'd just grabbed some scrap wood
- [00:00:56.520]outta the scrap bin and, you know,
- [00:00:59.280]just make something small and just have some fun, right?
- [00:01:01.920]And it actually turned out to be pretty cool-looking
- [00:01:05.340]and I sold it to a friend of mine and I thought,
- [00:01:09.240]you know, I really could do this.
- [00:01:11.626](circular saw whirring)
- [00:01:14.070]Wright started his own woodworking business
- [00:01:15.870]with the help
- [00:01:16.703]of UNL'S Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.
- [00:01:19.650]What I do is I upcycle scrap wood,
- [00:01:23.160]reclaimed wood, and repurposed wood
- [00:01:25.410]into what I like to call handmade treasures.
- [00:01:28.890]Some of the treasures Wright creates
- [00:01:30.660]are drink coasters, picture frames,
- [00:01:32.520]and one of a kind cutting boards.
- [00:01:34.650]And this guy is pretty fun.
- [00:01:36.930]He's a shark-cuterie board, a shark.
- [00:01:39.690]It's kind of a play on words there.
- [00:01:41.310]And on the back it says, "Shark-ood-re,"
- [00:01:44.400]and it says, "A French term for adult Lunchable,"
- [00:01:47.400]which I think is pretty funny
- [00:01:48.900]because that's basically what a charcuterie board is,
- [00:01:51.690]an adult Lunchable.
- [00:01:53.160]Wright plans to keep building
- [00:01:54.480]his sustainable woodworking business
- [00:01:56.220]and eventually make furniture.
- [00:01:57.810]Everybody always tells you to do what you love
- [00:02:00.120]and you won't work a day in your life.
- [00:02:01.890]And I love doing this, so I don't feel like it's work.
- [00:02:06.300]And I think that that's a perfect way
- [00:02:09.330]to go about doing anything really.
- [00:02:11.635](circular saw whirring)
- [00:02:18.510](circular saw rattles)
- [00:02:21.041](wood scrapes)
- [00:02:22.320]Great.
