[00:00:09.480]Today I'll tell you a little bit about Parking and transit
[00:00:13.215]services and how your student will be able to park on campus
[00:00:17.077]in a safe and effective manner.
[00:00:21.640]Parking and Transit Services is an auxiliary department.
[00:00:25.640]That means that we received no tuition funding, no state
[00:00:30.629]funding, no federal funding.
[00:00:33.520]So how we fund our department is through the sale of parking
[00:00:38.240]permits through special events.
[00:00:40.640]Parking like football, is the the largest 1:00 and then we do
[00:00:45.154]get revenue from citations.
[00:00:48.560]Parking Transit services uses these funds for all upkeep of
[00:00:53.268]parking facilities.
[00:00:55.440]So that's building new parking lots, building new parking
[00:01:00.885]garages, resurfacing lots, striping lots, snow removal,
[00:01:06.143]lighting and security cameras.
[00:01:11.320]Our parking website isunl.parking.unl.edu and on the

[00:01:24.900]southwest of the stadium.

[00:01:52.915]student is first looking at parking here on campus.
[00:01:57.880]If your student is a residential student, they'll want to
[00:02:01.100]purchase a resident permit.
[00:02:02.680]If your student is a commuter student, meaning maybe they're
[00:02:05.822]living at home and then driving to campus, they'll purchase a
[00:02:09.015]commuter permit.
[00:02:10.240]Commuters also have the option of paying hourly in our in some
[00:02:15.374]of our parking garages or purchasing parking through
[00:02:19.694]Passport parking app or possibly at meters.
[00:02:23.280]We do have short term permits as well.
[00:02:27.040]So to begin with your student we'll look at our website and
[00:02:30.779]there is a drop down menu.
[00:02:33.120]So the first one you'll look at is the Student Permit Purchase
[00:02:36.589]Guide.
[00:02:37.840]That purchase guide kind of leads you through the permit
[00:02:41.494]purchase process, identifying if your student is a commuter or a
[00:02:45.662]resident.
[00:02:46.760]That gives you the information that you'll need to have prior
[00:02:50.152]to starting that process.
[00:02:51.720]Basically, we are a license plate recognition campus, which
[00:02:55.672]means license plate recognition, which means your license plate
[00:02:59.887]is your permit identifier.
[00:03:01.600]So that's how we identify valid permits.
[00:03:07.240]So the license plate must be correct in order to have that
[00:03:11.173]valid permit.
[00:03:13.480]On our website also you'll find parking maps.
[00:03:16.040]This is very good for first time students.
[00:03:18.840]It identifies different areas of campus that they can park in.
[00:03:23.640]For example on a city campus map or a city campus permit.
[00:03:27.800]Excuse me for a resident.
[00:03:32.040]If they have classes on east campus, they need to park in the
[00:03:35.119]commuter lots on east campus.
[00:03:36.560]So finding those parking maps and identifying those areas
[00:03:40.316]really will help your student avoid citations.
[00:03:45.760]So our residential permits are based on where the student is
[00:03:51.250]living.
[00:03:52.560]So for example, Harperschram Smith which is in the north, the
[00:03:57.439]north part of campus, they will purchase the R01 permit or the
[00:04:02.397]14th and Avery garage permit.
[00:04:07.600]We have the Kaufman Center in Selleck.
[00:04:12.240]Those will purchase either the 14th and Avery the R1 or
[00:04:16.107]possibly 17th or 18th and R garages or the R2 if they want
[00:04:20.182]that surface.
[00:04:22.040]The Village and Knoll and Greek housing would purchase 17th and
[00:04:28.020]R, 18th and R or the R2 surface lot able sandoz.
[00:04:32.760]They would purchase the R1 or the R2 surface lots or the 19th
[00:04:37.749]and Vine garage permit.
[00:04:41.000]We also do offer overnight parking per residence in the
[00:04:44.816]perimeter lot by Devaney.
[00:04:46.840]That is our most economical permit.
[00:04:49.600]So if money is an issue or if you just if your student is just
[00:04:53.414]not going to drive the vehicle very often, the perimeter permit
[00:04:57.288]can be a good option.
[00:04:59.240]On East Campus, we offer the Area E parking permits for the
[00:05:04.245]residents.
[00:05:05.760]Those the only housing facility on East Campus is the Mass and
[00:05:11.868]Gale Facility residence Hall.
[00:05:14.680]So they would purchase those permits.
[00:05:17.080]And again, if you're on East Campus and have a city campus
[00:05:20.272]permit, look for those maps to find the commuter permits
[00:05:23.357]because that's or the commuter lots.
[00:05:25.360]That's where you would park if you're coming from East campus
[00:05:29.392]to city campus and you are commuter student.
[00:05:34.280]Commuter students have the option of purchasing non
[00:05:38.390]reserved area C parking permits.
[00:05:40.920]Those are surface lot permits.
[00:05:42.960]They also have the garages at 17th and R 14th and Avery
[00:05:47.808]Stadium Drive parking garage, and there's a few in the 19th
[00:05:53.002]and Vine parking garage.
[00:05:56.320]They also have the option for reserved permits.
[00:06:01.000]Reserved permits are lots that allow only certain types of
[00:06:05.400]permits during the core hours of campus from 7:30 to 4:00.
[00:06:09.800]For those reserved lots, those lots are kind of closer to the
[00:06:13.568]core of campus.
[00:06:14.800]So if your student doesn't like to walk in the cold or just
[00:06:19.197]really wants to be closer to the core of campus, those reserve
[00:06:23.815]lots can be purchased for commuter permits.
[00:06:27.040]Those are offered on a nine month or annual permit.
[00:06:30.160]Residents are just a nine month permit.
[00:06:35.240]Our prices for the various lots.
[00:06:38.720]The academic year prices for the R1R2, the Area C and a nine
[00:06:46.165]month non reserve area C are 405 or 540 for the annual.
[00:06:53.680]The 14th and Avery garage for the nine month is 459.
[00:06:58.240]The annual is 612.
[00:07:01.120]All other garages for the nine month or 486 or 648 for the
[00:07:05.758]annual permit for commuters.
[00:07:08.720]D1D2 and D3 commuter only permits.
[00:07:12.200]Those all those reserved lots that are closer to the core of
[00:07:17.156]campus, 729 for the nine month permit or 972 or the annual
[00:07:21.951]permit.
[00:07:23.000]The perimeter, like I mentioned is the most economical 207, the
[00:07:28.785]nine month permit or nine, 200 and 9076 for the annual permit.
[00:07:37.440]We do have a graduated refund policy.
[00:07:40.200]It's kind of similar to the housing refund policy.
[00:07:44.640]If your student returns their permit within the first two
[00:07:48.908]weeks of the first semester or prior to school even starting,
[00:07:53.472]they get a 100% refund of the original purchase price.
[00:07:58.960]The third week of second semester it goes down to 75%
[00:08:02.642]refund.
[00:08:03.520]The 4th week of first semester through the second week of
[00:08:07.819]second semester is 50% of the original price paid.
[00:08:12.320]The third week of second semester it's a 50 or a 25%
[00:08:16.913]refund.
[00:08:18.000]After that third week of second semester, there are no refunds
[00:08:22.026]for those nine month permits.
[00:08:24.200]Now we do offer a refund for annual permits after that 4th
[00:08:28.858]week of second semester, but it's only the summer portion
[00:08:33.437]that we would refund at that point.
[00:08:39.840]So here's a a screenshot of the purchase guide and like I said
[00:08:43.450]it it it has you go through and click on whether you're a
[00:08:46.773]commuter student or a resident student gets you started.
[00:08:50.040]In that purchase guide, you will access our online services,
[00:08:54.019]which is what we call the parking portal.
[00:08:57.840]The documentation that you'll need there is your vehicle
[00:09:00.483]information.
[00:09:01.320]So your license plates, your make, your model, your year,
[00:09:04.615]your color.
[00:09:05.680]If you do not have a license plate, you can still purchase a
[00:09:09.340]parking permit.
[00:09:10.480]We use the vehicle identification number or VIN for
[00:09:14.495]that identification.
[00:09:16.040]So you would enter the VIN and then you would use the last 8
[00:09:20.823]digits or letters as the license plate.
[00:09:25.000]When you are entering your license plate, please make sure
[00:09:27.677]that you are entering the appropriate state.
[00:09:29.720]So if you're an out of state student, make sure you enter the
[00:09:33.479]state of your license plate if indeed it's plated in that
[00:09:36.996]state.
[00:09:39.520]After you log in and you've got your materials, you click on Get
[00:09:43.430]Permits and that leads you through the the purchase
[00:09:46.558]process.
[00:09:47.440]You do have the option of paying for it with a credit or debit
[00:09:51.720]card right up front.
[00:09:53.280]You can choose Consolidated Billing one or two times.
[00:09:56.840]Consolidated Billing means that we send it to your student
[00:10:00.051]account which is your My Red account.
[00:10:02.880]Those can be sent the full purchase price in the fall.
[00:10:08.320]That's what we call CB1 or consolidated bill one.
[00:10:12.000]Or if you want to split that cost 5050 between the two
[00:10:15.630]semesters, that would be CB2 or consolidated bill bill two
[00:10:19.524]times.
[00:10:20.240]Half will go up in the fall and half would go up in the spring.
[00:10:25.360]All students that are parking on campus, whether they purchase a
[00:10:29.327]permit or not, must be registered with our office.
[00:10:33.080]And that pertains to actually not just students but faculty
[00:10:36.403]and staff as well.
[00:10:37.640]The reason we want that because if we need to contact the person
[00:10:41.545]who's driving that vehicle to move it for any purpose or if
[00:10:45.150]there is an emergency that we need to contact the driver of
[00:10:48.755]that vehicle, we have that contact information.
[00:10:53.520]My first year working in parking transit services, there was a
[00:10:56.995]fire in the 14th and Avery Garage and we had to notify the
[00:11:00.249]vehicles around that vehicle that caught on fire to let them
[00:11:03.614]know that there probably is some damage on their car as well and
[00:11:07.200]then to move those that were further away from that fire.
[00:11:11.040]So having that contact information is important.
[00:11:14.840]Your license plate must be entered without any spaces or
[00:11:19.008]dashes.
[00:11:21.720]The 17th and R 18th and R 14th and Avery in the Stadium Pride
[00:11:25.440]parking garage at this time will have a hang tag that is sent out
[00:11:29.400]to those permit holders.
[00:11:31.080]That hang tag acts as a an operator.
[00:11:37.760]An RFID little antenna is in that it operates the gates.
[00:11:42.880]So without that RFID hang tag at this point you would need to
[00:11:46.912]press the intercom if you have a valid permit that perhaps forgot
[00:11:51.204]it.
[00:11:51.600]But that hang tag is not the permit, it's just an identifier
[00:11:56.226]to raise the and lower the gates when your student is entering or
[00:12:01.233]exiting.
[00:12:02.560]We will be transitioning to a different system, at which point
[00:12:07.670]the license plates would be the identifiers for the gates
[00:12:12.376]lowering and raising.
[00:12:14.520]We are in the process of working with those companies to install
[00:12:18.107]new equipment.
[00:12:19.080]Those will be installed sometime during this semester or the
[00:12:23.373]first semester when your student is parking in a lot or in a
[00:12:27.667]garage.
[00:12:28.360]If you do not have a front license plate, we ask that you
[00:12:32.909]pull into the stall and not drive through because your
[00:12:37.222]license plate is the permit identifier.
[00:12:40.920]Our license plate recognition equipment that is mounted on
[00:12:44.499]vehicles must be able to read that license plate, so it must
[00:12:48.200]be mounted on the rear of the the vehicle and on the front.
[00:12:51.840]If you have that capacity, make sure it's in the holder because
[00:12:55.577]that's where the cameras will look.
[00:12:57.680]It cannot read a license plate that's up in a dash or on a back
[00:13:02.128]windshield deck.
[00:13:06.840]We do offer a campus bus service.
[00:13:10.360]We have two main routes, the 24 and the 25.
[00:13:15.280]Those run from 6:50 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Friday During
[00:13:20.455]the fall and spring semesters.
[00:13:23.800]There is no additional cost of that, but however there is a
[00:13:27.292]small transit fee that is paid in the student fees.
[00:13:31.400]We also offer the 22, which is goes from city campus to
[00:13:35.925]Nebraska Innovation campus and Parking and Transit Services
[00:13:40.774]offers A10 passenger van service from Nebraska Innovation campus
[00:13:46.027]to East Campus.
[00:13:48.440]Those buses do run about every 20 minutes or so, so it's really
[00:13:51.716]convenient.
[00:13:52.280]We have a lot of students, even our own student workers here in
[00:13:55.273]the office use that bus when traveling in between campuses.
[00:13:58.360]Saves them from wear and tear on their parking or on their
[00:14:01.590]vehicle, Saves them from finding a new parking place etcetera.
[00:14:06.240]After 9:00 PM We do have an on call ban that operates until
[00:14:10.445]11:30 PM Students, if they're on city campus and need to get to
[00:14:14.932]east campus for example, they can call that number and that is
[00:14:19.348]on our website.
[00:14:20.400]We don't have it listed here, but they can get a pick up at a
[00:14:24.533]designated spot.
[00:14:25.600]I think it's by Henslac Hall on CD campus and then we would drop
[00:14:29.378]them off at a designated spot on East Campus or vice versa, East
[00:14:33.157]campus to CD campus.
[00:14:36.880]One of the major events that we have going on through the fall
[00:14:40.326]semester here at Nebraska is Nebraska Football games.
[00:14:43.280]Those home football games on football Saturdays, residential
[00:14:47.230]students do not need to move their vehicle.
[00:14:50.080]However, they do need to be in their designated area.
[00:14:53.960]If they perhaps have parked in a lot that is not their designated
[00:14:58.336]lot or their designated garage, they can receive a call or a
[00:15:02.382]text from us quite early in the morning to move their vehicle.
[00:15:07.640]Parents, if you want to have your phone number listed as a
[00:15:11.924]contact for those vehicles, please have your student add
[00:15:16.062]that when they're in the parking portal.
[00:15:19.520]We can contact you as well as the student.
[00:15:22.240]Sometimes students have their phones on silent except for like
[00:15:27.871]parents, etcetera.
[00:15:29.880]During those early morning hours, if a vehicle is in a in
[00:15:35.262]an inappropriate lot, they will be towed.
[00:15:39.560]Athletics does purchase the surface lots around the stadium
[00:15:44.278]and resells those to boosters as part of their season tickets, so
[00:15:49.467]we do have to clear those lots for those prepaid boosters that
[00:15:54.421]have those lots.
[00:15:55.680]Again, residents do not have to move their vehicles, just be in
[00:15:58.677]the assigned area.
[00:15:59.760]Commuter students can get an event sticker for it from us and
[00:16:03.671]they can park in a designated lot.
[00:16:06.160]It is the green lots that have the slashes.
[00:16:09.320]So we have what we call the Boathouse lot, which is north of
[00:16:12.475]Nebraska Hall.
[00:16:13.440]We have the business services complex over at 1700 Y St.
[00:16:17.320]and then the area P, which is at the Divani Center.
[00:16:22.080]Commuter students, if they need to come to campus that day, they
[00:16:25.591]can park in those areas with their valid permit and in events
[00:16:28.941]ticker.
[00:16:30.120]An event sticker looks like this.
[00:16:31.800]The R1R2 will receive these darker blue event stickers.
[00:16:36.400]They will be sent out the first week of school to their dorms.
[00:16:41.480]Make sure they check with their front desk to get those stickers
[00:16:44.889]to place on the inside of their vehicle.
[00:16:47.040]Driver side lower left hand corner.
[00:16:50.400]That is where a lot of attendants look for those event
[00:16:53.357]stickers that designate that they do have a valid permit and
[00:16:56.637]they are OK to park in those lots.
[00:16:58.680]We do have a lot of tenants that protect those lots on game days.
[00:17:02.880]So it's important to have that event sticker, the 19th and Vine
[00:17:07.655]garage right now the equip the gate arms are raised on that
[00:17:12.133]garage as the gate equipment is currently not operable there.
[00:17:17.120]So we do monitor and enforce in that garage during our open
[00:17:22.449]periods.
[00:17:23.160]So garage permit holders at 19th and Vine will receive that 20
[00:17:27.952]that event sticker for 19th and Vine residential students.
[00:17:32.640]Again, it will be sent to the dorm, Abel or Sandoz or you
[00:17:36.617]know, one of the suites or courtyards to get that in their
[00:17:40.662]vehicle so they can enter and when if they have to leave.
[00:17:44.640]During a home football game day, residential students in garages
[00:17:49.482]will receive again that hang tag that designates that they have a
[00:17:54.398]permit.
[00:17:54.920]It raises and lowers those gate arms.
[00:17:57.080]On football Saturdays they have to have that displayed from the
[00:18:01.961]rearview mirror in order to enter a parking facility.
[00:18:06.960]Commuter students can talk, can contact our office like I said
[00:18:10.924]to get that event sticker.
[00:18:13.840]The event sticker for commuter students is a purple sticker.
[00:18:17.000]Again, it goes on the inside of the windshield, lower driver's
[00:18:21.390]side corner that designates they can park in those green slash
[00:18:25.781]areas.
[00:18:26.200]Those residential students, I do thank you for spending your day
