- [00:00:00.960]All right.
- [00:00:01.440]Hello, My name is Jess Wynn, and I'm the marketing coordinator at
- [00:00:04.578]the University Health Center on campus.
- [00:00:06.480]So this little presentation here is about the support and
- [00:00:09.442]services you can get at the University Health Center.
- [00:00:12.200]And today we'll go over a few different things.
- [00:00:15.360]How to access care at the Health Center, the services we have
- [00:00:18.466]available, how to pay for that care, and then helping students
- [00:00:21.622]become a little bit more independent throughout their
- [00:00:24.328]college years here.
- [00:00:27.520]So first thing is where is the Health Center located?
- [00:00:30.720]Our address is 550 N 19th St.
- [00:00:34.640]Here on this map, you can see we're just South of The Beatles
- [00:00:37.564]Center, right across the street from University Suites East side
- [00:00:40.629]Suites.
- [00:00:40.960]So if you're right over here, just walk across just a couple
- [00:00:43.965]minutes.
- [00:00:44.960]We're on the eastern edge of city campus, but super easy to
- [00:00:48.255]get to.
- [00:00:49.440]Different ways you can get to the Health Center, you can walk.
- [00:00:52.040]A lot of our students do choose to walk over here the health
- [00:00:55.260]centers and within walking distance of most locations on
- [00:00:58.270]campus.
- [00:00:58.640]From the city union to the health centers, just about 7 to
- [00:01:01.861]10 minute walk.
- [00:01:03.680]If you have a car on campus or if you're living off campus and
- [00:01:06.674]you want to drive to the Health Center, we have a free patient
- [00:01:09.669]parking lot.
- [00:01:10.240]Just remember to sign in your license plate number so that way
- [00:01:12.729]you avoid a ticket.
- [00:01:14.760]If you're using the bus from east campus or off campus, you
- [00:01:18.933]can use UNL Star Tran route #25.
- [00:01:21.160]It'll drop you off right South of the building, go across the
- [00:01:23.731]crosswalk and you can enter into our building.
- [00:01:26.640]And then we also have bike racks right in front of the West
- [00:01:29.952]entrance, in front of our pharmacy or just across the
- [00:01:32.934]street by University Suites.
- [00:01:35.040]If you're interested in using the bike, L&K or the
- [00:01:37.893]scooters, those docks are right by there too.
- [00:01:43.200]Looking at our academic hours, we call these academic hours
- [00:01:46.575]because they're what we set for the spring and fall semesters.
- [00:01:50.400]So Monday through Friday we are open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- [00:01:54.680]Saturdays we're open 9:00 AM to noon, and Sundays we are closed.
- [00:01:59.880]Different services will have different hours.
- [00:02:01.800]So dental, their first appointment will be at 7:30 in
- [00:02:05.040]the morning and they'll finish at 4:30, whereas like specialty
- [00:02:08.820]clinics might even open at like 6:30 in the morning and will
- [00:02:12.480]close around noon.
- [00:02:13.680]So it just depends on what services.
- [00:02:16.360]But these are our building hours basically, and we have adjusted
- [00:02:20.452]hours over breaks and holidays, so over like fall break, winter
- [00:02:24.482]break, that sort of thing.
- [00:02:26.400]We'll just let students know on our website, signage, emails,
- [00:02:30.471]all that stuff when we're going to be open and then how to get
- [00:02:34.609]care when we're closed.
- [00:02:39.480]And so how does the Health Center help you when you get
- [00:02:41.968]sick or injured?
- [00:02:44.120]So we, the bulk of the stuff that we do is primary care.
- [00:02:47.640]So this is like when you go to your doctor if you're not
- [00:02:50.400]feeling well for your annual visits, that sort of thing.
- [00:02:53.160]So a whole list of things down here that we can do for you,
- [00:02:56.845]injury and illness care.
- [00:02:58.320]So like respiratory infections, stomach bugs, that sort of
- [00:03:02.041]thing, acute and chronic disease management.
- [00:03:04.880]So whether you have diabetes, asthma, that sort of thing, we
- [00:03:08.492]can also help with like I just said, annual physicals, women's
- [00:03:12.223]and men's health exams, health assessments, all of that we can
- [00:03:15.954]do with our primary care providers as well.
- [00:03:19.360]We do minor sports medicine evaluation and treatment as well
- [00:03:22.980]as the bulk of what I do is health and well-being education.
- [00:03:27.240]So our providers do that within the exam rooms and then we're
- [00:03:30.399]doing that off campus, around campus as well and to educate
- [00:03:33.456]you on your health and well-being.
- [00:03:37.160]So within primary care, so say you do think that you broke a
- [00:03:40.795]bone or you might have strep throat.
- [00:03:43.000]We do have a laboratory and radiology available here at the
- [00:03:46.242]Health Center to to help supplement our primary care.
- [00:03:52.680]And then how can you get specialty care?
- [00:03:55.320]We don't want to have to push you off campus to find the care
- [00:03:57.604]that you need.
- [00:03:58.120]So we bring the specialist to you here on campus.
- [00:04:00.680]So a few of those are optometry, travel clinic, orthopedics and
- [00:04:06.214]allergy clinic, nutrition is telehealth.
- [00:04:09.880]And then we also have psychiatry.
- [00:04:12.040]And so all of these different specialty care, they happen on
- [00:04:16.383]certain days at certain hours.
- [00:04:18.800]And so when you call to make your appointment, we'll make
- [00:04:21.404]sure to try to figure that out with your schedule and what our
- [00:04:24.234]specialists can do when they come here on campus.
- [00:04:27.160]One thing I'll point out is travel clinic and nutrition,
- [00:04:30.446]your first visit with both of those clinics are covered
- [00:04:33.674]through your student fees, which I'll get into a little bit
- [00:04:37.134]later.
- [00:04:40.320]Another one of our services is physical therapy.
- [00:04:42.960]And so whether it's from, you know, an injury, a sports
- [00:04:46.794]injury, maybe you're rehabbing from surgery or maybe you just
- [00:04:51.039]have chronic pain, any of those reasons are a great reason to
- [00:04:55.284]try to see what physical therapy can do for you.
- [00:05:00.040]Our physical therapists have a bunch of different ways that
- [00:05:02.778]they can help you.
- [00:05:04.280]Some of these are cupping, dry, needling, manual therapy and so
- [00:05:09.098]a great experience with them as well.
- [00:05:15.280]And then how do you get dental care on campus?
- [00:05:18.000]Our dentist can do anything that your dentist at home can do.
- [00:05:21.600]So whether that's routine exams and cleanings, crowns and
- [00:05:24.677]fillings, periodontal treatment, any of those things, you can
- [00:05:27.967]come on campus and do that on the second floor of the
- [00:05:30.833]University Health Center.
- [00:05:35.360]And then how can you get medicine on campus?
- [00:05:38.480]The University Health Center has a pharmacy on the first floor of
- [00:05:41.621]our building.
- [00:05:42.720]A lot of great benefits to this.
- [00:05:45.240]So transfers are easy.
- [00:05:47.120]All you have to do is give us a call, let us know the
- [00:05:49.696]information on your RX label if you have refills available.
- [00:05:52.880]Otherwise, call your doctor and let them know that you want to
- [00:05:55.834]pick it up at the University Health Center Pharmacy.
- [00:05:59.400]You can come pick it up or we can do free mail order.
- [00:06:03.440]So this is just sending it to your residence within Nebraska
- [00:06:06.846]and you can also get 60 to 90 days supplies.
- [00:06:10.640]Some prescriptions are at a discounted rate and what's even
- [00:06:13.818]more affordable are our over the counter products.
- [00:06:16.840]So whether it's ibuprofen, tampons, bandages, any of that
- [00:06:20.865]stuff that you might need like a first aid kit, we can help put
- [00:06:25.308]that together.
- [00:06:26.280]And they're a lot more affordable on campus rather than
- [00:06:29.296]if you were going to like Acvs or Walgreens.
- [00:06:33.800]And then we also have a safe medical disposal box.
- [00:06:36.840]For some reason you're not using your medications anymore.
- [00:06:40.080]Just go and drop those in there.
- [00:06:42.240]It's a Safeway for those things to go away instead of just
- [00:06:45.146]throwing them into the environment.
- [00:06:49.840]And then how do you make an appointment?
- [00:06:51.520]Appointments are required for all services so you can either
- [00:06:55.165]call or schedule online.
- [00:06:57.960]Highly recommend putting this number in your phone
- [00:07:01.498]402-472-5000.
- [00:07:03.280]That main line number will get you to the anywhere you want to
- [00:07:06.651]talk to.
- [00:07:07.120]What if you want to talk to dental?
- [00:07:08.600]Want to talk to pharmacy?
- [00:07:10.040]You just have to press the corresponding number.
- [00:07:12.160]Once you get that number pushed in, new patients and return
- [00:07:16.636]patients can schedule online.
- [00:07:19.080]So if you go to health.unl.edu, that's our website and there's
- [00:07:22.013]going to be a banner at the top that says appointments, click on
- [00:07:25.039]which one ever you want to do, probably going to be a new
- [00:07:27.739]patient and then it will take you through that screening.
- [00:07:32.600]Same day appointments are offered on a first come, first
- [00:07:35.238]served basis.
- [00:07:35.840]So if you wake up in the morning, you're just not feeling
- [00:07:38.601]well.
- [00:07:38.880]Give us a call and we can try to fit you into our schedule.
- [00:07:42.120]And we do have a phone nurse available 24/7 at that main line
- [00:07:46.001]number.
- [00:07:46.440]So whether it's the middle of the day or the middle of the
- [00:07:49.499]night, go and give the call to that phone nurse.
- [00:07:52.040]If you're not feeling well, we can go through your symptoms,
- [00:07:55.058]see if you tried some stuff at home already, and if not, we'll
- [00:07:58.176]give you the next steps, whether that's finding an urgent care,
- [00:08:01.344]getting you an appointment, that sort of thing.
- [00:08:05.520]And then telehealth is available on a limited basis as well.
- [00:08:08.600]So that's another nice option is you don't even have to leave
- [00:08:11.775]home to come see us.
- [00:08:15.840]And so how do you prepare for an appointment?
- [00:08:17.920]So once you've made your appointment, what'll happen is
- [00:08:20.098]you're going to get 2 links sent to you in an e-mail.
- [00:08:22.560]The 1st is to register for your one chart patient portal and so
- [00:08:25.774]through one chart you can, after your appointment, message your
- [00:08:28.988]provider.
- [00:08:29.440]You can do refills, all that stuff in there, see your test
- [00:08:33.073]results and then completing E check in is optional but highly
- [00:08:36.891]highly encouraged.
- [00:08:38.840]Through E check in, you can already upload your insurance
- [00:08:42.604]cards, do the medical history, form all that stuff in advance,
- [00:08:46.693]and then we really recommend that you come 15 minutes before
- [00:08:50.652]your appointment time.
- [00:08:52.360]Your appointment time starts.
- [00:08:54.840]So if you say your appointment's at 1:00, that's when you should
- [00:08:58.230]be in the exam room with the doctor.
- [00:09:01.240]So come 15 minutes early so that way we can get you checked in.
- [00:09:03.920]Make sure that we have all the information that we need.
- [00:09:06.160]And then when you do, come bring your government ID.
- [00:09:10.880]So like a driver's license.
- [00:09:12.240]And if you have an insurance card, go ahead and grab that as
- [00:09:15.973]well.
- [00:09:16.280]So if you are on your parent or guardian's insurance, just make
- [00:09:20.286]sure that you have their information like their birthday,
- [00:09:23.918]who they work for, that sort of thing.
- [00:09:30.120]And so how do you pay for care?
- [00:09:32.200]Like I said earlier, some of your student fees do cover
- [00:09:35.053]certain services.
- [00:09:35.920]So I think I have a slide on that.
- [00:09:38.360]After this, we can go through what those services are and then
- [00:09:42.095]you can submit to private insurance plan or the university
- [00:09:45.592]works with United Healthcare Student Resources and they also
- [00:09:49.209]have an insurance plan that's available.
- [00:09:53.440]You can pay out of pocket at a discount or you can also apply
- [00:09:57.058]for financial assistance through Nebraska Medicine and then any
- [00:10:00.794]remaining balance will be billed to your My Red account after 30
- [00:10:04.588]days.
- [00:10:05.560]So you don't need insurance to come see us.
- [00:10:08.120]There are different ways that we can help you be seen we don't
- [00:10:11.296]want cost to be a factor of you not seeking healthcare.
- [00:10:16.880]So services covered by student fees, these are those services.
- [00:10:21.080]So 5 talking office visits with a provider each academic year.
- [00:10:24.480]What this means is you can come see a provider about something
- [00:10:27.836]that's been bothering you, whether it be a headaches that's
- [00:10:31.032]not going away, a cough that has developed and you can't get it
- [00:10:34.441]to stop that sort of thing.
- [00:10:36.360]And then anything that is like additional testing or
- [00:10:39.514]prescriptions that would be your responsibility to take care of
- [00:10:43.324]that is not covered with the talking office visit.
- [00:10:47.840]Flu shots are covered.
- [00:10:49.360]Doctored, ordered.
- [00:10:50.200]Wellness profiles are covered.
- [00:10:51.920]This is just a blood test to see where your cholesterol numbers,
- [00:10:55.081]that sort of thing, is.
- [00:10:56.760]Doctored, ordered chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIVHIV testing
- [00:11:00.360]are also all covered by student fees.
- [00:11:03.360]There's no limit to how many times you can come.
- [00:11:06.040]And then like I said, the first nutrition counseling visit is
- [00:11:08.916]also covered.
- [00:11:13.080]And So what is the power of attorney form?
- [00:11:15.160]So in the state of Nebraska, you are not a legal adult until
- [00:11:18.413]you're 19 years old.
- [00:11:20.120]A lot of you folks are coming into school at 18 or younger.
- [00:11:24.040]And So what this means is we need your parents consent to
- [00:11:26.985]treat you at the Health Center.
- [00:11:29.720]So the way that we get around this is the the power of
- [00:11:33.291]attorney form.
- [00:11:34.200]So if you're going to be 18 years old when you start school,
- [00:11:37.820]we highly recommend that your parent signs this, gets it, get
- [00:11:41.499]it, get it notarized, and then send it to the Health Center.
- [00:11:45.720]What this form is saying is that the parent is giving the student
- [00:11:49.814]the power to make their own medical decisions is essentially
- [00:11:53.599]what this is saying.
- [00:11:55.440]If you want more information on this, go to our website.
- [00:11:57.640]We've got a whole FAQ section about all this, what this form
- [00:12:01.099]entails and then feel free to also reach out to me if you have
- [00:12:04.671]any questions about this as well.
- [00:12:10.360]And then what happens when there is emergency.
- [00:12:12.120]This is one of the biggest questions that we get throughout
- [00:12:14.451]new student enrolment throughout the summer.
- [00:12:17.280]Highly recommend you going into your Myroid account and updating
- [00:12:21.808]your emergency contacts.
- [00:12:23.480]So once you're in your Myroid account top right hand corner,
- [00:12:26.880]you're going to go to profile and then you should be able to
- [00:12:30.280]hit edit emergency contacts and just input that information
- [00:12:33.625]there.
- [00:12:34.040]So that's just a way that if something ever does happen, we
- [00:12:38.716]know who to contact and so just don't wait to seek care.
- [00:12:43.160]We're here to help you throughout your journey to help
- [00:12:46.140]you be a little bit more independent.
- [00:12:49.200]And this is probably the first time that you're seeking
- [00:12:52.120]healthcare on your own.
- [00:12:53.960]But from the person who picks up the phone to help you make your
- [00:12:57.162]appointment to the nurse who rooms you, to the provider that
- [00:13:00.168]sees you, we want to make sure that you're understanding your
- [00:13:03.223]care and learning throughout it.
- [00:13:04.800]So if you want to learn more about our services, any of the
- [00:13:08.594]information that I talked about will be updated on to our
- [00:13:12.262]website sothatshealth.unl.edu.
- [00:13:15.280]And then you can also stay connected.
- [00:13:17.800]So we do a lot of different updates, events, webinars, that
- [00:13:22.600]sort of thing.
- [00:13:23.760]And so that'll be on all of our social media pages.
- [00:13:27.480]We'll make sure to update you and let you know what's
- [00:13:29.882]happening, get some free stuff out of it, that sort of thing.
- [00:13:35.560]And so this was sport and services at the University
- [00:13:37.395]Health Center.
- [00:13:37.880]Again, my name is Jess Wynn.
- [00:13:39.080]I'm the marketing coordinator for the University Health
- [00:13:41.675]Center.
- [00:13:42.600]If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an
- [00:13:45.341]e-mail and I'd be happy to help you out.
- [00:13:48.400]Thank you for your time.
