The Bureau of Business Research at the Nebraska College of Business launched a monthly initiative through its Leading Economic Indicator reports to measure and project the condition of the Nebraska economy. The report uses key economic indicators to help people better understand the economy and the factors that play a role in the growth and decline of economic conditions in our communities.

[00:00:15.030]The leading economic indicator for Nebraska was up by .58%
[00:00:20.070]during the month of January.
[00:00:22.200]This increase in the leading indicator
[00:00:23.970]suggests that the Nebraska economy
[00:00:25.860]will grow at a moderate pace through mid-2024.
[00:00:30.030]The leading indicator improved during January
[00:00:32.400]for two primary reasons.
[00:00:34.590]First, there was a drop
[00:00:35.790]in initial claims for unemployment insurance in Nebraska,
[00:00:39.450]suggesting strength in our state's labor market.
[00:00:43.050]There also was a positive report
[00:00:45.000]from the monthly Survey of Nebraska Business.
[00:00:48.030]Responding businesses on balance
[00:00:49.950]reported plans to increase both sales and employment
[00:00:52.890]over the next six months.
