- [00:00:02.120]All right, Well, welcome everyone, to Husker home.
- [00:00:05.720]We're so excited to have you all here today.
- [00:00:08.880]If you have been watching the game at halftime, we're up on
- [00:00:13.176]Ohio, the Ohio State.
- [00:00:14.680]So really exciting stuff on campus.
- [00:00:17.760]School started yesterday, so our semester started, so it's a lot
- [00:00:21.244]of activity right now, our campus.
- [00:00:23.120]So we're really excited to be in your home tonight.
- [00:00:26.440]Though my name is Kayla Tupper and on behalf of the whole
- [00:00:29.789]entire Austin Mission University, thank you so much
- [00:00:32.791]for joining us tonight.
- [00:00:34.480]We know how busy you are as admitted seniors, we know that
- [00:00:38.431]life is coming really fast.
- [00:00:40.760]It's warming up a little bit right here in the Midwest.
- [00:00:42.800]Wherever you're coming from, hopefully you're having nice
- [00:00:44.627]weather.
- [00:00:44.880]But right now it's, you know, getting up into the mid 30s here
- [00:00:48.374]in Nebraska.
- [00:00:49.040]So it is warming up, but you have such a busy semester, such
- [00:00:52.361]busy lives.
- [00:00:52.960]So thank you so much for taking time out of your busy night to
- [00:00:56.473]join us.
- [00:00:57.480]We are here to help you understand what your home's
- [00:00:59.954]going to look like when you come to the University of Nebraska.
- [00:01:03.000]We're going to go over what it looks like from a resin hall,
- [00:01:05.440]perspectives and different options.
- [00:01:07.280]We just want to make sure that when you make this decision on
- [00:01:10.209]where you attend college, where you start our next chapter, your
- [00:01:13.281]future, we want to make sure that secured, informed and
- [00:01:15.927]comfortable decision.
- [00:01:17.680]Now a few things before I turn over to my colleagues tonight.
- [00:01:20.600]This webinar like I mentioned, is going to be recorded, so you
- [00:01:23.878]will be able to post this recording somewhere else later
- [00:01:26.843]on.
- [00:01:27.000]So that way if you miss anything, you can go back and
- [00:01:29.358]refer to it throughout this whole entire presentation.
- [00:01:31.760]You're going to learn a lot of information, but you might have
- [00:01:34.087]some questions and we want you to ask those questions.
- [00:01:36.120]So we will be using the Q&A feature.
- [00:01:38.680]So at the bottom of your screen, the bottom of your phone, you're
- [00:01:41.032]going to see that Q&A feature.
- [00:01:42.480]You will use that feature in order to answer questions.
- [00:01:45.160]We have the individuals in front of you who will be presenting,
- [00:01:47.798]but we also have some individuals in the background
- [00:01:49.942]who will be answering those questions for you.
- [00:01:51.880]So we'll do our best to answer those questions.
- [00:01:54.400]And some of you might ask questions are still relevant and
- [00:01:56.760]we're going to hold off and wait to answer the questions, the
- [00:01:59.240]whole entire room.
- [00:01:59.960]So if your questions are answered all the ways, don't
- [00:02:02.292]worry, try because it's such a good question.
- [00:02:04.280]We're going to use that question to ask the whole entire room so
- [00:02:07.511]that everyone can hear that response.
- [00:02:10.080]Now the plan is to do about an hour.
- [00:02:12.360]So depending on how many questions you have, we could go
- [00:02:15.025]for the whole entire hour or we might cut up short, but we'll be
- [00:02:18.064]with you until about 8:00.
- [00:02:19.600]All right.
- [00:02:20.840]All right.
- [00:02:21.120]Well, without further ado, I'm going to turn over to my
- [00:02:24.046]colleagues from University Housing as well as Fraternity
- [00:02:27.025]Story Life.
- [00:02:27.920]They're induced themselves.
- [00:02:28.960]And then we'll get started.
- [00:02:30.800]Lucas, Thanks, Kayla.
- [00:02:33.080]Welcome, everyone.
- [00:02:33.960]My name is Lucas Savatny.
- [00:02:35.360]I serve the university as the executive Director of Housing
- [00:02:37.692]and Dining.
- [00:02:38.280]I'm super stoked to be with you tonight amongst these great
- [00:02:41.141]colleagues and everybody on the Zoom Room to talk to you about
- [00:02:44.145]what it's like to live at the University of Nebraska.
- [00:02:47.280]I'm joined by my dear colleague and friend, Doctor Matt Nelson.
- [00:02:50.040]I'm going to turn it over to him to introduce himself.
- [00:02:52.320]Good evening, everyone.
- [00:02:53.240]Thanks for being with us.
- [00:02:54.200]My name is Matt Nelson.
- [00:02:55.080]I serve as the Director of Residence Life.
- [00:02:56.960]Thanks for being here.
- [00:02:58.280]Over to you, Lee.
- [00:03:00.120]Hi everyone.
- [00:03:00.720]My name is Lee Tiedemann.
- [00:03:01.800]I serve as the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
- [00:03:04.160]I'm thrilled to be here tonight to share a little bit more
- [00:03:06.604]information about the fraternity and sorority community and talk
- [00:03:09.297]about how our students find a home with us.
- [00:03:12.760]All right, So what we want to communicate 1st, and I'll take
- [00:03:16.376]the first slide, is that the idea of living on campus is just
- [00:03:20.052]what we do, right?
- [00:03:21.240]Students at the University of Nebraska live on campus.
- [00:03:23.560]They live with us, and it's essential part of your college
- [00:03:26.661]experience.
- [00:03:27.240]So I don't want to read you the screen or anything like that,
- [00:03:29.857]but I want to make sure that I communicate a few things to you.
- [00:03:32.880]One, that students who live with us make better choices.
- [00:03:37.480]They have better opportunities for success.
- [00:03:40.440]If you want me to maybe hand out the research, I can, but I don't
- [00:03:44.424]want to bore you or anything like that.
- [00:03:47.000]But I want, I want you to take away is that if you live on
- [00:03:50.027]campus, you'll have a higher GPA, you'll be retained at a
- [00:03:53.004]higher level and you'll persist across that stage, which is the
- [00:03:56.289]goal of a Nebraska degree at better rates than those who
- [00:03:59.214]choose not to live with us.
- [00:04:01.120]That Matt will talk to you about this kind of at a few different
- [00:04:04.524]points of this presentation that we have dedicated staff to make
- [00:04:07.928]you successful, to ensure that we're making good on that
- [00:04:10.913]promise and that this idea of building community will help you
- [00:04:14.213]feel like this is your home.
- [00:04:15.840]And I already want you to start thinking about if you choose us,
- [00:04:19.080]that this is where you're going to live and this is your new
- [00:04:22.121]Husker home.
- [00:04:22.720]And so my again, my colleague and dear friend Matt's going to
- [00:04:25.402]go a little bit deeper into what it means to live in the
- [00:04:27.867]residence halls.
- [00:04:32.040]Thanks, Lucas.
- [00:04:33.520]I'm excited to share a little bit more about what it is like
- [00:04:36.906]to live in the halls and and that community that you will be
- [00:04:40.293]joining if you choose Nebraska and choose to live on campus.
- [00:04:44.880]I could talk about this for a long time.
- [00:04:46.280]So Lucas, if I get too long winded, you just have to cut me
- [00:04:48.680]off.
- [00:04:48.840]But living on campus folks, is more than just a roof over your
- [00:04:52.138]head.
- [00:04:52.400]It's a place to call home or in some cases home away from home,
- [00:04:55.984]right.
- [00:04:56.600]You're surrounded by folks with similar interests and goals and
- [00:04:59.955]you, like Lucas mentioned, a wonderful, supportive staff and
- [00:05:03.153]and lots of resources on campus to help you thrive.
- [00:05:06.560]That sense of community is probably a once in a lifetime
- [00:05:09.719]thing, right?
- [00:05:10.680]I don't know if if you can imagine yourself in any other
- [00:05:13.747]point in your, you know life getting the opportunity to live
- [00:05:17.029]with people who are going through the same thing you're
- [00:05:20.042]going through about your same age and just get it right, have
- [00:05:23.378]similar interests and motivations and goals.
- [00:05:26.200]And so this is a pretty cool opportunity for you.
- [00:05:28.920]And we're fortunate that that on campus housing is just a natural
- [00:05:32.393]place for you to do that for you to meet others, find friends
- [00:05:35.655]you're close to resources, events, activities and really
- [00:05:38.655]that all of that together helps you build a a supportive network
- [00:05:42.076]for you and that's key to your success in college.
- [00:05:45.000]Regardless of where you go, hopefully it's here.
- [00:05:47.160]But regardless of where you go, you've got to build a a strong
- [00:05:49.796]support network and we believe our residential communities do
- [00:05:52.390]that.
- [00:05:53.200]We do that through lots of things.
- [00:05:55.640]I'm going to highlight a couple educational and social
- [00:05:58.425]opportunities, not just events, right, but some experiences and
- [00:06:01.667]other things, right?
- [00:06:02.680]We want you to have fun, but we also want you to explore topics
- [00:06:05.888]that expand your understanding of things that you're learning
- [00:06:08.996]in the classroom, right?
- [00:06:10.800]So, Oh my gosh, In August we do lots of big traditional events
- [00:06:15.376]and things that really showcase what it means to be a Husker.
- [00:06:20.280]Lots of big Red welcome events, whether it's a block party or
- [00:06:23.966]tunnel walk.
- [00:06:24.680]Lots of big fun things.
- [00:06:27.560]Some of you, though, might be a little overwhelmed by such a big
- [00:06:32.371]show of events, right?
- [00:06:34.240]And so fortunately in the residence halls, we do both
- [00:06:36.908]those big programs, those big events and and small things,
- [00:06:39.823]right?
- [00:06:40.120]Things that happen on the floor.
- [00:06:42.320]Maybe a hangout with folks who live around you.
- [00:06:45.240]Maybe it's a board game night or a movie night.
- [00:06:47.360]Dinner in the dining center and even on the occasional snow day
- [00:06:51.405]that we've had a few recently here in Nebraska.
- [00:06:54.440]We do some fun stuff on snow days too, but beyond fun, right?
- [00:06:58.560]We try to plug you into to things that will advance you
- [00:07:01.060]professionally and personally too, whether that's work.
- [00:07:03.560]With our Clifton Strengths Institute on campus, tutoring in
- [00:07:06.848]the halls for some of those tricky classes, we want you to
- [00:07:10.081]have resources at your fingertips.
- [00:07:12.840]And all of those events and things are great.
- [00:07:15.520]But let me tell you about some of the features of the building
- [00:07:17.990]that you may find of interest, right.
- [00:07:19.760]Whether that's our front desk where you can get mail and
- [00:07:22.505]packages, whether it's fitness rooms that we have scattered
- [00:07:25.395]throughout our buildings.
- [00:07:26.960]I'll talk a little bit more about our councillors and
- [00:07:29.120]residents.
- [00:07:30.760]Oh my gosh.
- [00:07:31.240]We have study rooms, both individual and group study
- [00:07:34.554]rooms, game rooms, laundry rooms.
- [00:07:36.680]There's free laundry.
- [00:07:37.800]So parents, family members, if your student comes home and
- [00:07:40.688]says, you know, hey, look, I need your help doing the
- [00:07:43.332]laundry, 'cause, you know, it's really expensive out there at
- [00:07:46.368]college.
- [00:07:46.760]Not the case here.
- [00:07:48.520]So get smart, right?
- [00:07:50.680]And more.
- [00:07:51.200]Lots of things.
- [00:07:53.040]Lots of things to do.
- [00:07:54.120]So let's talk, Lucas.
- [00:07:56.000]The next slide's got a little bit of a floor plan.
- [00:07:58.640]I'm a visual learner and so I wanted to show you the the
- [00:08:01.593]options for first years, right?
- [00:08:03.200]So first year students can live in one of two different types of
- [00:08:06.861]halls.
- [00:08:07.760]On the one side of your screen, you see what we call a
- [00:08:10.265]traditional hall.
- [00:08:11.680]And that is where like Lucas and I might share one bed space, one
- [00:08:16.154]room where we each have a bed and a dresser and and a closet
- [00:08:20.290]wardrobe area.
- [00:08:21.600]And then our door to our room opens to a hallway of similar
- [00:08:25.453]room types.
- [00:08:26.240]And among the whole floor, we share the bathroom, we share the
- [00:08:30.069]study room, we share the laundry room.
- [00:08:32.440]Among the floor community that's what we call traditional.
- [00:08:36.160]So on the screen you can see Abel Sandoz, Harper, Shram
- [00:08:39.465]Smith, all of those options are traditional on city campus and
- [00:08:43.184]then on our east campus we have traditional options in
- [00:08:46.430]Massingale.
- [00:08:48.280]On the the other side of the screen you see our suite style.
- [00:08:51.240]We have again a limited number of suite style options for first
- [00:08:55.539]year students.
- [00:08:56.480]This is same kind of scenario.
- [00:08:58.080]Lucas and I are still going to share a a room, but we're going
- [00:09:01.501]to share a suite with another pair of students who share a
- [00:09:04.705]bedroom, right.
- [00:09:05.520]So as you can see on the screen among the four of us, we're
- [00:09:09.040]going to share a living room, a small kitchen, kind of prep
- [00:09:12.560]area, snack area and then the and then an in unit bathroom.
- [00:09:16.560]So there's four of us we each we share a bedroom with one other
- [00:09:20.768]person though all of this and more on the top screen.
- [00:09:24.920]I think Kayla's dropping links in the chat too.
- [00:09:26.920]You can see online videos, you can see these images if you want
- [00:09:30.062]to kind of dig in a little bit more.
- [00:09:32.680]We are going to showcase all of these at our admitted student
- [00:09:35.689]day in March.
- [00:09:36.480]We'll also showcase these at orientation in the summer.
- [00:09:39.280]So if you haven't yet made it to campus and want to actually see
- [00:09:42.445]with your own eyes, you'll have that opportunity.
- [00:09:47.160]Gosh.
- [00:09:47.440]The other thing I guess I'll mention is that all of our
- [00:09:50.749]buildings are Coed and some are our specific gender by floor and
- [00:09:54.591]some are not.
- [00:09:55.840]But what I can tell you is that you're going to live with
- [00:09:58.941]someone of the same gender as you unless you opt into our
- [00:10:02.042]gender inclusive housing option, which is like every other
- [00:10:05.197]housing option.
- [00:10:06.000]It just happens to take gender out of the equation for
- [00:10:09.231]matching.
- [00:10:09.760]So that's sort of what you can expect, what it'll look like and
- [00:10:13.842]feel like.
- [00:10:15.080]And I bet your next question, which I'm ready for because I
- [00:10:17.876]have a slide about it, I bet your next question is like,
- [00:10:20.534]which is better?
- [00:10:21.840]Should I live in a traditional building like Able or?
- [00:10:24.440]I mean people keep telling me I should live in the suites right
- [00:10:27.752]now.
- [00:10:27.960]Let me let me share with you a few things.
- [00:10:29.440]Right.
- [00:10:29.840]I'm a little, I'm a little biased, I won't lie.
- [00:10:32.360]But what you should know is that most of our first year students
- [00:10:35.710]live in traditional style halls.
- [00:10:37.760]That's just a sheer number.
- [00:10:38.920]We have more, more traditional beds than we do in suite style.
- [00:10:42.200]So about 75% of our students live in traditional style
- [00:10:45.712]housing with about 25% of our first years living in suite
- [00:10:49.416]style.
- [00:10:50.640]I'm a little biased.
- [00:10:51.440]Like I said, I really love the traditional Hall experience and
- [00:10:54.461]I want to just, I want to tell you why, because it might give
- [00:10:57.434]you pause, might get you thinking about some things in a
- [00:11:00.168]different way.
- [00:11:02.120]Coming to college is a big transition, right?
- [00:11:04.840]How am I going to make that transition easier for myself?
- [00:11:07.680]Well, if I can meet people, if I can build a network of support
- [00:11:12.034]quickly, that'll make me feel comfortable.
- [00:11:15.520]How do I do that in my living situation?
- [00:11:17.880]Well, I live in a place that has the most number of people and
- [00:11:20.962]easy access to meet new people.
- [00:11:22.800]I think that happens easier in a traditional building because
- [00:11:26.140]there's only one door that separates me from the rest of my
- [00:11:29.372]community and I have to share these shared spaces.
- [00:11:32.200]And so that that one door, the density of a building, allows me
- [00:11:36.066]to meet more people in a in a quicker way and form those
- [00:11:39.510]important relationships.
- [00:11:41.280]So that's one reason.
- [00:11:42.960]The other thing again, you have those shared shared spaces which
- [00:11:46.466]are cleaned daily by our hospitality staff.
- [00:11:49.520]That doesn't happen the same with the same interval in our
- [00:11:52.810]suite style.
- [00:11:53.480]So then I have to take care of that as a as a suite style
- [00:11:56.457]resident.
- [00:11:57.200]So something to think about, right?
- [00:11:58.920]I'd rather somebody else clean the bathroom for me for
- [00:12:01.429]instance.
- [00:12:03.000]The last thing I think just to hit home with suite style
- [00:12:05.660]certainly has perks, right?
- [00:12:06.920]A little bit more privacy, a little bit more space to call
- [00:12:09.656]your own, but some considerations.
- [00:12:11.280]One is that cleaning right?
- [00:12:12.360]You just have more space, get more space to live in.
- [00:12:15.040]And it also means you might make it dirty and you have to clean
- [00:12:17.819]it up.
- [00:12:18.880]The other thing for me, as I think about it, gosh, you know,
- [00:12:22.330]I was fortunate I didn't have a my sister and I, we didn't share
- [00:12:26.008]a room, right?
- [00:12:26.800]We had our own rooms growing up.
- [00:12:29.400]If I had, I didn't have the experience of living with
- [00:12:32.152]someone.
- [00:12:33.160]And so moving into a hall where I share a space with someone,
- [00:12:38.097]one person alone might be an adjustment, right?
- [00:12:42.200]If I have to negotiate 3 people's kind of styles and and
- [00:12:45.205]quirks and that sort of thing, that's just something for me to
- [00:12:48.527]think about.
- [00:12:49.480]Which one do I want?
- [00:12:50.760]Which one do I prefer what?
- [00:12:52.560]What more might I have to do negotiating some of those
- [00:12:56.075]relationships So ultimately, totally your decision.
- [00:12:59.400]You can preference any hall you wish.
- [00:13:03.000]Again, I'm a little biased for the traditional.
- [00:13:05.640]If I happen to have swayed you in any way.
- [00:13:08.200]Know that if you've already applied for housing, you're
- [00:13:10.631]welcome to go in and update your preferences until May so you can
- [00:13:13.497]move those around and whatnot.
- [00:13:14.800]But OK, that's my selling point Now I want to talk to you though
- [00:13:18.368]about, you know regardless of the building that you live in,
- [00:13:21.717]the support that we've mentioned, right, We have staff
- [00:13:24.736]to support you.
- [00:13:25.560]That's their whole job, right.
- [00:13:27.080]You have a built in network of support right there who who work
- [00:13:31.025]right where you live.
- [00:13:32.760]We are the when fully occupied Lucas, right.
- [00:13:35.680]We're the 29th largest city in Nebraska and so we have staff to
- [00:13:40.121]support you, right.
- [00:13:41.440]We're renting a small town here, so a couple things to highlight
- [00:13:45.173]right Lots of staff, but ones that you should know.
- [00:13:48.600]Your peer support, Your resident assistant, your RA.
- [00:13:51.520]There'll be one RA, at least one RA on every floor.
- [00:13:54.400]These are upper division students that help you navigate
- [00:13:57.604]college, help connect you to resources with you on the good
- [00:14:00.977]days, with you on the bad days.
- [00:14:03.160]They're there.
- [00:14:03.760]Good resource right?
- [00:14:05.800]There's also professional staff members who live in the building
- [00:14:09.480]as well folks on our team who whose you know lifestyle as they
- [00:14:13.047]live in our residence halls and are there to help students and
- [00:14:16.613]and they serve in an on call rotation 24/7 for emergencies
- [00:14:19.954]and crisis situations.
- [00:14:21.560]So there's some Peace of Mind there.
- [00:14:23.880]I mentioned in house counseling staff, we have some counselors
- [00:14:26.964]and residents who provide support and assistance right in
- [00:14:29.803]the building.
- [00:14:31.480]I would be remiss if I didn't talk about our wonderful
- [00:14:34.277]maintenance and and dining staff that includes after hours
- [00:14:37.277]support, work tickets, navigating the dining centers
- [00:14:39.973]and meal plans and all that sort of thing.
- [00:14:42.840]Although the woman picture here is Lori, I would say this is a
- [00:14:46.403]glamour shot and this is staged and yeah, you're probably right.
- [00:14:50.080]But Lori, Miss Lori looks like this.
- [00:14:51.720]Every day you walk into Catholic dining center.
- [00:14:53.480]So if you have the chance to visit campus and you see Lori,
- [00:14:57.065]this is true to form.
- [00:14:59.640]Bottom line here folks, is that there's there's lots of people
- [00:15:02.265]around who want to help you and help you be successful.
- [00:15:04.640]And so for parents, family members, know that we got your
- [00:15:07.792]student, we got you.
- [00:15:11.040]OK, one more and then I'll turn the mic over.
- [00:15:13.400]Lucas, one thing I want to highlight is our our learning
- [00:15:17.200]communities.
- [00:15:18.160]Another experience that you might be interested in, right?
- [00:15:20.960]The learning community is a group of students who live
- [00:15:24.065]together and share an academic major or an interest or
- [00:15:27.171]identity.
- [00:15:28.120]So they live together, they learn together and they connect
- [00:15:31.076]together.
- [00:15:32.160]We are fortunate we have 25 learning communities.
- [00:15:35.880]Caleb posted the link in the chat, a couple that I wanted to
- [00:15:39.660]highlight.
- [00:15:40.280]Gosh, there's so many you if you're interested in pre vet, we
- [00:15:43.238]have one for pre vet.
- [00:15:44.240]If you're interested in health and medicine or kind of the hard
- [00:15:48.014]sciences or teaching, Oh my gosh, there's there's something
- [00:15:51.553]for everyone.
- [00:15:53.120]Most LCS are geared toward first year students and they help with
- [00:15:57.122]that transition to college.
- [00:15:59.160]They can really shrink the size of our large community.
- [00:16:02.760]So it's a, you know, a good way to get connected to campus, meet
- [00:16:05.257]new people.
- [00:16:05.680]It is kind of like a built in network, right?
- [00:16:07.800]Because you're living together with the same folks that you're
- [00:16:10.716]taking a couple classes together with, which is really helpful.
- [00:16:15.680]Alongside that, right?
- [00:16:16.640]I've talked about support.
- [00:16:17.760]We have a peer mentor, an upper division student who's who's
- [00:16:21.847]been through things like you and they they are a resource.
- [00:16:26.200]Each learning community also has a faculty or staff sponsor for
- [00:16:29.789]the learning community.
- [00:16:31.120]So if that support wasn't enough, if the shared
- [00:16:33.565]experiences weren't enough, we have exclusive events and trips
- [00:16:36.775]and sorts of things that are offered only to students and
- [00:16:39.730]learning communities.
- [00:16:41.640]So to give you a couple examples, gosh I mentioned our
- [00:16:45.047]pre vet learning community.
- [00:16:46.960]They've gone behind the scenes at the Omaha Henry Dorley Zoo at
- [00:16:50.305]the kind of the vet clinic, the behind the scenes facility tour
- [00:16:53.650]which is pretty sweet.
- [00:16:55.440]Our discover the healthy human learning community has done a
- [00:16:59.120]tour right on campus behind the scenes in the athletics world,
- [00:17:02.921]our training table and our athletic training facilities.
- [00:17:06.760]Pretty cool as well.
- [00:17:07.560]Not something everybody gets to do.
- [00:17:09.920]And the last one I'll highlight.
- [00:17:12.480]We are fortunate to have a partnership with the University
- [00:17:14.647]of Nebraska Medical Center.
- [00:17:15.840]Our Exploring Health and Medicine learning community went
- [00:17:19.460]on a kind of behind the scenes tech tour with at the Monroe
- [00:17:23.205]Meyer Institute, which is pretty cool.
- [00:17:25.840]So if you're interested, when you go through the housing
- [00:17:29.015]application, once you complete all of the steps, there'll be an
- [00:17:32.580]opportunity to join a learning community.
- [00:17:34.920]Designate which one you're interested in.
- [00:17:36.920]If you happen to have already done the process, good for you.
- [00:17:39.680]You can go back into the housing application and and pick your
- [00:17:43.343]learning community at that point.
- [00:17:46.800]There's probably a thing here at the bottom that I should mention
- [00:17:50.588]to learning communities are one of just several special
- [00:17:53.802]communities and programs that we we house residential.
- [00:17:57.400]And so if you're in the honors program, if you end up in the
- [00:18:01.689]Jeffrey Rakes program, if you're.
- [00:18:04.160]Oh my gosh, William H Thompson Buffett Scholars, some of those
- [00:18:07.890]programs have a residential component.
- [00:18:10.600]And I want you to hear, don't worry about that.
- [00:18:13.240]We got you covered.
- [00:18:14.040]We know about that.
- [00:18:15.040]And if you have any questions, we're here to help you.
- [00:18:17.560]But there are some other things that are like learning
- [00:18:20.997]communities that help help you find your people and where you'd
- [00:18:24.997]live too.
- [00:18:25.560]So OK, Lucas, with that, I said I'd be done.
- [00:18:28.760]I'll pass it back to you.
- [00:18:30.560]I could go on.
- [00:18:33.080]Absolutely.
- [00:18:33.520]I mean, I think Matt could go on for days and it's really
- [00:18:36.004]exciting to listen to him talk about it.
- [00:18:39.040]There's so many folks here who are dedicated like Matt to
- [00:18:42.946]provide you, your families support in the residence halls.
- [00:18:48.000]Matt talked a lot about them, but I want to go particularly
- [00:18:51.418]into our dining program because they're another group of folks
- [00:18:55.008]who really make this Husker home feel like home, right.
- [00:18:58.520]And so I know as a part of living on campus, first year
- [00:19:01.677]students will be required to select a meal plan.
- [00:19:04.720]So I want to walk through a little bit about the program
- [00:19:07.325]just so that you're familiar with it kind of at the
- [00:19:09.702]beginning.
- [00:19:10.160]I want to talk to you in regards to our program is very flexible
- [00:19:14.840]and it offers a lot of choice.
- [00:19:17.040]And sometimes as you're making all of these choices to evaluate
- [00:19:21.190]your options of where you might want to go to college, those
- [00:19:25.145]choices can be overwhelming, right?
- [00:19:27.480]The choices come with complexity here.
- [00:19:30.440]So what I want, I just want you to learn a couple things tonight
- [00:19:33.648]and take it and take it around as you are sort of evaluating
- [00:19:36.659]our program against the other programs that you're selecting.
- [00:19:40.760]First, I'll be a little bit bullish about my team and our
- [00:19:43.873]team here in Nebraska that as you are evaluating other
- [00:19:46.825]institutions, I would, I'd like to think and I and I would kind
- [00:19:50.261]of bet on my team that they'll stand against the rest as far as
- [00:19:53.697]the flexibility of the plan, the the elevation of the culinary
- [00:19:57.079]program, the commitment to our students.
- [00:19:59.280]And so take me up on that offer to try to test us because I
- [00:20:01.998]think we're really, we're really best in class here.
- [00:20:04.840]But I want you to take away just two things that there are.
- [00:20:07.360]Each of our plans have meal swipes and they have dining
- [00:20:10.965]dollars.
- [00:20:11.480]So your meal swipes are where you swipe into one of our dining
- [00:20:14.851]centers.
- [00:20:15.280]Generally, you walk into the door, you have everything that
- [00:20:18.855]you care to eat at your fingertips.
- [00:20:21.280]You eat until your heart is content and then you put your
- [00:20:24.393]tray on the on the on the thing, return it and go home.
- [00:20:27.880]That's what our meal swipes are for, OK?
- [00:20:31.000]And that is your sustenance.
- [00:20:31.800]That is where you, most of our students go every day.
- [00:20:34.800]However, our dining dollar program is allowed for you to
- [00:20:38.326]have that variety.
- [00:20:39.880]Many people take us up on meal plans who are not required
- [00:20:43.693]because of this, this variety in this dining dollar flexibility
- [00:20:47.902]on campus.
- [00:20:48.560]I picked on Lee in the first webinar.
- [00:20:50.640]The dining dollars are how Lee gets her, her lattes in the
- [00:20:53.829]Nebraska union.
- [00:20:55.280]And so this idea of the dining dollars is what adds the
- [00:20:58.297]flexibility and the choice across all of our campus dining
- [00:21:01.476]units.
- [00:21:02.440]So again, you have meal swipes and you have dining dollars.
- [00:21:05.920]That's that's what you need to know right now.
- [00:21:07.840]There is no wrong choice here.
- [00:21:09.480]We'll talk about a lot of folks ask about which is the right
- [00:21:12.436]plan and I'll walk a little bit deeper into those plans.
- [00:21:15.400]But generally speaking, they're all sort of structured the same.
- [00:21:18.200]They're similarly priced for you to make to make this the choice
- [00:21:21.870]that's best for you.
- [00:21:23.960]And we know that the the students that are coming to us
- [00:21:27.989]are are desiring more and more choice, have more and more
- [00:21:32.162]restrictions or preferential dietary restrictions or
- [00:21:35.976]preferences.
- [00:21:37.200]And so I want to make a nod here that you can eat safely and
- [00:21:41.023]healthily in every place on campus.
- [00:21:43.800]But particularly I want to throw a nod to our eight plus allergen
- [00:21:47.926]friendly dining center in Harper where students who have
- [00:21:51.490]restriction can absolutely eat free of contaminate of cross
- [00:21:55.241]contamination concerns.
- [00:21:56.840]It's free of the 8 common allergens.
- [00:21:58.640]We put that plus there because there's now 9 common allergens
- [00:22:01.986]and you get a bonus point if you knew that 9th common allergen.
- [00:22:06.000]It's sesame, that's your little nod.
- [00:22:07.840]If you learned nothing today, learn that Sesame is the 9th
- [00:22:12.329]common allergen we call our I've, I've mentioned dining
- [00:22:16.591]centers.
- [00:22:17.200]I've mentioned all you care to eat.
- [00:22:18.800]I've done that kind of interchangeably.
- [00:22:21.680]We have I'm going to talk about the dining options here.
- [00:22:24.080]So we have 3.
- [00:22:25.920]self-service or All You care to Eat centers, cafeterias.
- [00:22:29.240]We don't like to call them that in the business if you will.
- [00:22:32.320]But those are Cather Harper and East Campus.
- [00:22:35.160]Again, those are the places where you swipe your card on
- [00:22:37.984]your meal plan, your meal, swipe walk in, have everything that
- [00:22:41.106]that you want.
- [00:22:42.280]But we also know again I talked about changing preferences.
- [00:22:45.160]Our students are desiring, they're on the go especially in
- [00:22:47.878]the first year where they're they're in this class and
- [00:22:50.412]they're in that place and they're they're in this
- [00:22:52.716]involvement opportunity and they're just the the schedules
- [00:22:55.434]are just busy.
- [00:22:56.360]And so we've tried to meet that requirement with our mobile
- [00:22:59.635]ordering and our on the go options.
- [00:23:01.600]And so we have two, we have two dining centers that are fully
- [00:23:05.349]mobile first meaning that select food, select food hall and able
- [00:23:09.279]dining center are both mobile order first.
- [00:23:11.880]So you will have you download an app, you can put your request
- [00:23:16.301]into your liking, It's made fresh for you.
- [00:23:19.760]You walk into the center, swipe your QR code, take that Qdoba
- [00:23:23.828]burrito bowl for you to go or to stay, and then you get to class.
- [00:23:28.600]There's nothing that says you can't stay in the center and eat
- [00:23:31.289]and gather with other folks who've also mobile ordered.
- [00:23:34.160]We know across our program, one of the things that we hold dear,
- [00:23:37.947]truly I hope your family holds dear too, is that community is
- [00:23:41.560]built around the around the table.
- [00:23:43.840]And we take that very seriously across our dining program.
- [00:23:46.360]And so we want to ensure that community is built in the dining
- [00:23:49.609]halls, in the dining centers and that each student has an
- [00:23:52.600]opportunity to sit with another peer, learn about them, build
- [00:23:55.798]community, find friendships, those types of things.
- [00:23:59.600]Also, I think we'd be remiss if we didn't mention at a land
- [00:24:02.650]grant institution like the University of Nebraska, our
- [00:24:05.447]commitment to sustainability and to the resources that have been
- [00:24:08.752]entrusted to us and taking care of the land.
- [00:24:11.800]We are best in class here when it comes to our sustainability
- [00:24:15.165]efforts.
- [00:24:15.760]I'm very proud of the the efforts that our staff has put
- [00:24:19.150]forward, whether that be local food sourcing, all of our
- [00:24:22.541]relation, the myriad of relationships that we have with
- [00:24:25.872]local purveyors to really take serious that farm to table idea.
- [00:24:30.600]Whether that be our bio digesters that help offset waste
- [00:24:34.290]from the food from the landfills or just our general waste
- [00:24:38.110]education programs weigh the waste programs educating
- [00:24:41.606]students and we all you care to eat is an intentional word
- [00:24:45.426]choice.
- [00:24:46.240]You can eat all you care to eat, but eat all that you take and
- [00:24:50.107]really work on our commitment to being good stewards of the land.
- [00:24:54.960]And our dining program really I think is leading the way.
- [00:24:58.160]So Kayla's probably already, I think, dropped in our meal plan
- [00:25:02.798]chart.
- [00:25:03.240]She's put in some stuff about the dining program and this is a
- [00:25:06.915]quick little snapshot that we want to reference for you.
- [00:25:10.480]That's on our website that's gives more information.
- [00:25:13.760]But as I've been talking about, each plan has a number of meal
- [00:25:17.834]swipes and then dining dollars.
- [00:25:20.080]That's what you see by these numbers, 18 meals a week, 300
- [00:25:23.588]dining dollars.
- [00:25:24.480]Let me talk about those, those 18 meal plan, those 18 meal
- [00:25:28.311]swipes, they are per week.
- [00:25:30.080]They reset on Sundays, OK.
- [00:25:32.520]Those dining dollars are per semester.
- [00:25:35.440]You can use them in a declining balance way across all of our
- [00:25:38.564]dining units throughout the semester.
- [00:25:40.680]And then at the end of the semester, those dining dollars
- [00:25:43.571]retire.
- [00:25:43.960]So Please ensure that you use your plan.
- [00:25:46.560]It's best when there's nothing left on the table for us.
- [00:25:49.400]And so that's how we try to structure our plans.
- [00:25:51.600]And if ever there was an opportunity that you went
- [00:25:54.861]through your dining Dollars or you wanted or one of your
- [00:25:58.506]friends off campus or Lee's going to talk about fraternity
- [00:26:02.280]life.
- [00:26:03.000]If there was anybody who wanted more meals or more Dining
- [00:26:05.890]Dollars, you can always do the Herbies add on pack as well.
- [00:26:08.880]And that's what we're, that's what we're referencing at the
- [00:26:11.446]bottom here.
- [00:26:13.200]OK.
- [00:26:13.400]Matt's going to, I'm going to turn it back over to Matt here
- [00:26:15.795]and he's going to talk a little bit about some functions here,
- [00:26:18.268]about the application process for you.
- [00:26:21.160]Yeah, you bet.
- [00:26:21.640]Let's talk logistics here a little bit.
- [00:26:23.200]So Lucas mentioned at the beginning, right, living on
- [00:26:25.900]campus is just what first year Huskers do, right.
- [00:26:28.960]So we do ask that all first year students live on campus, but we
- [00:26:32.754]do know that some of our students live within a certain
- [00:26:36.023]mile radius or for whatever reason have have a unique
- [00:26:39.176]situation.
- [00:26:40.200]And so we ask that all students, all incoming first year students
- [00:26:44.708]do one of three things.
- [00:26:46.840]I want you to either apply for housing, request an exemption,
- [00:26:50.699]or tell us that you're going to live in a fraternity house,
- [00:26:54.434]which we're going to learn more about here in a minute from Lee.
- [00:26:58.920]All of those things are done within the housing portal that's
- [00:27:02.764]accessed through your My Red account.
- [00:27:05.680]So do one of three things that confirms to us, lets us know
- [00:27:09.096]what your intentions are.
- [00:27:10.920]By and large, most of our students live on campus, right?
- [00:27:14.400]We have a contingent of folks who live in fraternity houses
- [00:27:17.336]and then we have some folks within the surrounding community
- [00:27:20.321]within a 30 mile radius who might choose to live at home.
- [00:27:24.000]But again, just one of three things.
- [00:27:26.800]So the the the most salient one I guess you could say would be
- [00:27:31.092]applying for housing, right?
- [00:27:33.080]And so on our next slide, we've got kind of the, the walkthrough
- [00:27:36.802]of what happens, right.
- [00:27:38.120]So some of you have already done this.
- [00:27:40.080]Our our housing application contract opened on January 12th
- [00:27:44.005]and some of you've done this great.
- [00:27:46.440]Thank you.
- [00:27:46.920]This is awesome.
- [00:27:48.120]You'll know that the contract opened the same time our
- [00:27:50.996]roommate Finder opened.
- [00:27:52.640]And so if you haven't done yet, no panic, you have, there's no
- [00:27:55.947]rush to complete.
- [00:27:57.240]You've got plenty of time, but kind of logistically what
- [00:28:00.581]happens here is you have, you gain access to the housing
- [00:28:03.923]portal after you pay your enrollment deposit with the
- [00:28:07.088]Office of Admissions.
- [00:28:08.320]That's the $250 enrollment deposit.
- [00:28:10.920]Once you pay that, our systems will configure and and
- [00:28:15.109]synchronize.
- [00:28:16.040]And then within 24 hours, the portal, the housing portal will
- [00:28:19.086]turn on.
- [00:28:19.760]That's something that you access through Myred.
- [00:28:22.520]It's a little blue button off to the one side.
- [00:28:25.560]It's all right on the homepage of your Myred account.
- [00:28:28.560]The application itself is really easy.
- [00:28:30.640]It's going to ask you for some information about yourself, some
- [00:28:34.125]emergency contact information.
- [00:28:36.000]It's going to ask you your room preference, right?
- [00:28:38.160]Where do I want to live?
- [00:28:39.200]What kind of room?
- [00:28:41.040]It's going to ask you to pick a meal plan.
- [00:28:42.840]Again, like Lucas said, make a choice.
- [00:28:44.560]There's no bad choice.
- [00:28:45.880]You have plenty of time to make a different selection.
- [00:28:49.480]It'll also, like I said, the learning community is right.
- [00:28:52.440]You'll be able to opt into a learning community and lots
- [00:28:54.903]more.
- [00:28:55.200]It's very easy, very, very easy.
- [00:28:57.840]But again, there's no rush.
- [00:28:59.800]If I were to give you a a deadline, but I'm not even going
- [00:29:02.887]to call it deadline, I'd I'd encourage you to have your your
- [00:29:06.079]materials in by April 1st.
- [00:29:07.440]That gives you the best chance of getting one of your preferred
- [00:29:11.426]halls.
- [00:29:12.680]And so again anytime between now and April one you're you're
- [00:29:15.889]going to be in just fine shape.
- [00:29:19.120]And I think Lucas, I turn it back over to you to just talk
- [00:29:21.296]about kind of what happens after April one.
- [00:29:23.600]Yeah, absolutely.
- [00:29:26.000]And there's a lot of great questions already happened in
- [00:29:28.427]the in the Q&A and and we'll we'll take some of those live
- [00:29:31.109]too.
- [00:29:31.280]So this is the summary slide of kind of what we talked about,
- [00:29:34.380]right.
- [00:29:34.840]So we've we've convinced you that this is a great choice for
- [00:29:38.152]you that you want to see this as your Husker home, your next home
- [00:29:41.737]as Matt said in order to get the best chance at your preference
- [00:29:45.213]and we want you to be here in the portal by April 1st.
- [00:29:49.160]All students who have completed this process, this application
- [00:29:53.202]process by May 1st will receive their room assignment prior to
- [00:29:57.245]Memorial Day.
- [00:29:58.520]We that's great.
- [00:30:00.280]That's something that we're super excited to be able to do
- [00:30:03.318]because that when you meet us in person and hear from Matt and I
- [00:30:06.665]speaking again and talk to Lee and see all the folks in new
- [00:30:09.754]student orientation, you're going to see, you're going to
- [00:30:12.741]know your room assignment.
- [00:30:14.200]And so that'll be a way for us to augment, if you will, that
- [00:30:18.410]program, the in person orientation program for you.
- [00:30:22.640]And you'll really get to see all your halls and kind of start to
- [00:30:25.535]imagine yourself what it's going to be like once you move in into
- [00:30:28.474]the halls.
- [00:30:28.920]And so that we're really excited.
- [00:30:31.760]That's sort of our summary statement.
- [00:30:33.680]But we know that many times when we think about, when we think
- [00:30:37.777]about living at the university, this idea of exploring another
- [00:30:41.875]opportunity with our Fraternity Sorority Life program often
- [00:30:45.778]comes right behind it and right next to it.
- [00:30:48.880]And so we've got, you know, Lee is here tonight and we're going
- [00:30:51.778]to turn it over to her to let let her take the stage and talk
- [00:30:54.585]a little bit about the Fraternity Sorority Life Program
- [00:30:57.121]as an option for our students.
- [00:30:58.480]So Lee, it's to you.
- [00:31:00.640]Great.
- [00:31:00.800]Thank you, Lucas.
- [00:31:01.880]Again, I'm so excited to get to talk to Y'all a little bit about
- [00:31:04.672]fraternity sorority life in our community.
- [00:31:06.800]So if you or your student is thinking about joining, you are
- [00:31:09.697]in the right place.
- [00:31:10.600]We have about 23% of the undergraduate population, so one
- [00:31:13.664]in five students walking around here on campus find a home
- [00:31:16.781]within the fraternity sorority community.
- [00:31:19.240]We've got some other data on the screen right now as well that
- [00:31:22.373]our our total community size is over 4200 students.
- [00:31:24.960]So again, quite a few of our undergraduate students find a
- [00:31:28.176]home with us and we have over 1600 students that live in one
- [00:31:31.502]of our chapter facilities.
- [00:31:32.920]And I think a lot of times when people think about fraternity
- [00:31:36.551]and sorority life, they think of this very traditional large
- [00:31:40.124]chapter with a facility and we've got a broad range within
- [00:31:43.580]our community.
- [00:31:44.400]So while we have 53 chapters here on campus, only thirty of
- [00:31:47.852]them actually have living units and we've got four different
- [00:31:51.362]councils.
- [00:31:51.880]So four really distinct ways that you can join the fraternity
- [00:31:54.768]and sorority community.
- [00:31:55.840]And again, we have got some very traditional fraternities and
- [00:31:59.395]sororities and the way that you join that happens.
- [00:32:02.320]But I want to make sure I mentioned two other councils in
- [00:32:04.720]particular while I have you.
- [00:32:06.200]So we have got our national panel INIC Council, which is for
- [00:32:08.781]our historically African American fraternities and
- [00:32:10.939]sororities here on campus.
- [00:32:12.280]We also have a multicultural Greek Council that has eight
- [00:32:15.104]different chapters that have Asian interest, Latinx interest
- [00:32:18.074]and multicultural interest organizations.
- [00:32:20.240]They're not always the first ones that people think about.
- [00:32:22.360]So I want to make sure I highlight that if you or your
- [00:32:24.728]student are thinking that could be a place for you that you know
- [00:32:27.526]that they exist as well.
- [00:32:29.560]We are always proud to brag about our GPA which is always
- [00:32:32.521]higher than the all university GPA.
- [00:32:34.440]So this is actually our spring GPA with a 3.44 over the all
- [00:32:39.773]FSLGPA versus that 3.29 for the all university.
- [00:32:44.520]And then with all of these students with all of these
- [00:32:46.978]chapters we still are considered 1 fraternity and sorority
- [00:32:49.664]community.
- [00:32:50.120]And it's it's really important that that we are viewed that way
- [00:32:52.777]here on campus.
- [00:32:54.600]But to dig in a little bit more about if your student is
- [00:32:57.616]thinking about living in one of our chapter facilities, I'm
- [00:33:00.791]going to focus more on the fraternity side.
- [00:33:03.120]So if your your student is interested in joining an inner
- [00:33:06.033]fraternity council chapter because in the fall as we're
- [00:33:08.846]talking about right now, it's really our fraternities that are
- [00:33:12.011]hosting first year students and not our sororities because
- [00:33:14.975]they're a chapter.
- [00:33:15.960]Facilities are already full in the fall and so most
- [00:33:18.753]fraternities with facilities do participate in a university
- [00:33:21.976]approved housing process.
- [00:33:23.480]We work really closely with the university and this allows those
- [00:33:26.506]chapters to have first year students live within their
- [00:33:29.068]chapter house.
- [00:33:30.520]I will say very loud and clear that we recommend that you sign
- [00:33:33.764]a housing contract, even if you're interested in living in
- [00:33:36.803]one of the fraternities.
- [00:33:38.160]We want to make sure that you're going to have a great housing
- [00:33:40.475]experience.
- [00:33:41.080]And in case it doesn't work out for you in the way that you
- [00:33:43.705]think it will or you decide joining a fraternity that
- [00:33:46.069]doesn't have a chapter house is the right move for you.
- [00:33:48.520]We want to make sure you've got housing here on campus.
- [00:33:50.800]And so please sign that housing contract and be prepared for
- [00:33:53.499]that and be thinking through all of those pieces, even if you
- [00:33:56.243]think you're going to be joining a fraternity with the facility.
- [00:33:59.880]So our fraternities can start offering bids on May 19th.
- [00:34:03.840]While there can be some conversations already happening
- [00:34:07.002]in a few recruitment events, we will be out and about for
- [00:34:10.277]admitted student day on March 23rd, but they really can't be
- [00:34:13.722]offering bids until May 19th.
- [00:34:15.360]So that's the first time you or your student would be able to be
- [00:34:18.972]contacting housing and letting them know that you are going to
- [00:34:22.474]be living in a fraternity.
- [00:34:24.000]So again, if you receive a bid from a fraternity and and you
- [00:34:26.886]decide that living in that fraternity is what you you'd
- [00:34:29.536]like to do, you're going to need to communicate this with
- [00:34:32.281]university housing so they know what's going on.
- [00:34:35.360]And then just as a reminder, you're going to be signing a
- [00:34:38.105]housing contract then with the organization and not with the
- [00:34:40.992]university, even though they're university approved housing.
- [00:34:43.880]And so that agreement is going to be between you and your
- [00:34:48.043]student and that chapter and not with the university.
- [00:34:51.920]So just so that we're, we're very clear about that, but I'm
- [00:34:54.564]going to be staying on and answering any questions that you
- [00:34:57.208]might have about fraternity and sorority life.
- [00:34:59.280]So sticking around and answering those, but I'm going to kick it
- [00:35:01.773]back to Matt who's going to be talking a little bit about
- [00:35:03.997]parking here on campus.
- [00:35:06.720]Yes, we this isn't our first rodeo folks.
- [00:35:09.320]We know that sometimes you have questions about parking.
- [00:35:11.640]So we wanted to to get ahead of you there.
- [00:35:15.040]Let me be clear, anyone, any student can bring their car to
- [00:35:18.435]campus that's allowed.
- [00:35:20.080]Some campuses do not allow first year students to bring a car to
- [00:35:23.113]campus.
- [00:35:23.440]That's not the case.
- [00:35:24.920]That's not the case here.
- [00:35:26.080]So we do have parking adjacent to nearly all of our our
- [00:35:30.000]residence halls.
- [00:35:32.960]They are kind of you kind of got two options, you can park in a
- [00:35:36.363]surface lot which is uncovered parking lot or you can park in a
- [00:35:39.767]garage which would be covered parking with a gate.
- [00:35:42.960]So to kind of facilitate that, you work directly with parking
- [00:35:46.928]to purchase a virtual pass, I'll say virtual because the majority
- [00:35:51.152]of our students do end up on using a surface pass, just kind
- [00:35:55.056]of an open lot and they don't receive a pass.
- [00:35:58.000]All of the the virtual permits are done based on your license
- [00:36:01.610]plate.
- [00:36:02.600]If you do happen to go the garage route, you will get a
- [00:36:05.383]hang tag so that it lets you, there's an RFID that lets you
- [00:36:08.364]into the garage.
- [00:36:09.160]So if you're, you know you're getting here and you're like, Oh
- [00:36:12.199]my gosh, I don't have my pass yet, it means you're probably
- [00:36:15.094]fine because you got a virtual pass.
- [00:36:17.240]The nice part about buying your parking pass, you also get a a
- [00:36:20.558]bus pass at no additional cost that gets you between the
- [00:36:23.561]campuses, which is pretty helpful between city and east
- [00:36:26.511]campus.
- [00:36:27.480]But kind of more holistically parking often leads us to think
- [00:36:30.880]about kind of safety on campus and just a few like real quick
- [00:36:34.280]points on safety on campus, right.
- [00:36:36.280]We already talked about the staff in the building, the
- [00:36:38.651]residence hall itself.
- [00:36:39.880]We have staff on call 24/7, whether that be for a crisis or
- [00:36:43.626]an emergency situation, whether that be a maintenance or
- [00:36:47.186]facility issue, right?
- [00:36:49.000]We want you to feel safe in in the in the care here on campus.
- [00:36:53.440]I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention we have our own Police
- [00:36:55.940]Department, University of Nebraska Lincoln Police
- [00:36:57.956]Department.
- [00:36:58.520]We have a strong relationship with the Police Department, both
- [00:37:01.911]the fraternity and sorority community, and also on campus
- [00:37:05.033]housing too.
- [00:37:06.720]Within housing, if you're wondering, every student gets
- [00:37:09.685]their end card.
- [00:37:10.480]That's their student ID.
- [00:37:11.680]That's the card that lets you in the building.
- [00:37:13.560]All of our residence halls are locked and so that's how you
- [00:37:16.624]have to swipe to get into the building and then you have to
- [00:37:19.689]key card into your room too.
- [00:37:21.120]So just want to make sure everyone feels safe get a few of
- [00:37:24.699]those questions ahead of time.
- [00:37:26.520]But I think Lucas we're getting toward the end here.
- [00:37:31.200]I think we're about ready to just open it up to for some
- [00:37:34.330]questions.
- [00:37:35.080]I think we turned it over to Kayla to wrap us up and kind of
- [00:37:37.810]take over this Q&A.
- [00:37:38.840]So, yeah, Kayla go.
- [00:37:41.880]Yes, Thank you all so much for answering so many questions
- [00:37:45.120]already.
- [00:37:45.680]But we do have some questions I just want to pause and allow to
- [00:37:48.528]answer out loud.
- [00:37:49.240]So first and foremost, a great question like meal plans.
- [00:37:51.880]You know what if we've submitted our housing contract already on
- [00:37:55.424]January 12th, but now we've looked and think, oh, we've
- [00:37:58.477]changed our minds or Oh no, I've submitted it.
- [00:38:01.040]I moved in, but now I'm a month in and I've made it the wrong
- [00:38:04.310]choice.
- [00:38:04.960]Let's talk about when can we change meal plans depending on
- [00:38:08.433]I've submitted it as of two weeks ago or I'm a current
- [00:38:11.616]student.
- [00:38:12.080]What do I need to do?
- [00:38:13.800]Yeah, OK, let's challenge your word choice, right.
- [00:38:16.080]You said I made the wrong choice.
- [00:38:17.680]There is no such thing as a wrong choice, right?
- [00:38:20.440]So there's just a choice.
- [00:38:21.560]So family members, students, change your meal plan as many
- [00:38:25.005]times as you want right now.
- [00:38:26.800]Like if you come to, you can just keep changing change every
- [00:38:29.577]day.
- [00:38:29.920]We don't care, right?
- [00:38:31.120]You can talk to everybody, Crowdsource as many people as
- [00:38:33.296]you want.
- [00:38:33.640]Change it every day.
- [00:38:35.160]What we will do once you arrive, we and we push those meal plan
- [00:38:39.814]charges to your account.
- [00:38:41.560]Remember, they're all similarly priced.
- [00:38:43.520]The main plan, there's just a premium plan that's just a
- [00:38:45.901]little bit more money, but those traditional plans are all are
- [00:38:48.533]equally priced.
- [00:38:50.080]Once you once you do that, we'll run a one week meal plan change
- [00:38:54.792]period for you.
- [00:38:55.880]That's allowed.
- [00:38:56.400]That's the test drive for you to say, oh, let's see how this fits
- [00:38:59.333]in my schedule.
- [00:39:00.000]I think I'm a breakfast person, but I'm really not.
- [00:39:02.800]I told my mom I would be a breakfast person, but I'm really
- [00:39:05.162]not.
- [00:39:06.040]So that whole idea, and then you make that choice.
- [00:39:08.160]We lock that in for the semester and then we go through the
- [00:39:10.978]semester and then if we want to make a different choice again
- [00:39:13.891]for the 2nd semester, we open that program again.
- [00:39:16.240]Maybe our schedules have changed.
- [00:39:17.560]Maybe we have taken on a new commitment, maybe a morning job
- [00:39:20.693]at the campus rack, something like that.
- [00:39:22.800]That would dictate our schedule.
- [00:39:24.920]We can make another choice.
- [00:39:25.920]So again, there is no wrong choice in the meal plan.
- [00:39:29.040]Just a choice.
- [00:39:29.880]And then we'll make another one.
- [00:39:31.360]So I think, Kayla, back to you.
- [00:39:32.680]I know there's a whole bunch of roommate questions, so we'll
- [00:39:35.228]probably let Matt take those.
- [00:39:36.680]Yeah, we're gonna talk about roommates.
- [00:39:38.320]There's a lot of questions about the group options circle.
- [00:39:41.600]What does that mean?
- [00:39:43.280]What happens if I just don't find anybody in the portal that,
- [00:39:46.182]like, really interests me?
- [00:39:48.000]Who chooses my roommate for me if I don't find one to the
- [00:39:50.539]roommate Finder?
- [00:39:51.280]So Matt has access to all these questions.
- [00:39:53.320]So he's gonna summarize a lot of your all questions through How
- [00:39:56.138]do I find my bestie for the rest of my life?
- [00:40:00.640]Yes.
- [00:40:01.000]OK, let's.
- [00:40:02.120]I'm going to, in no particular order, I'm going to try and buzz
- [00:40:05.438]through some of these so roommate requests.
- [00:40:07.840]You can do that now once you apply, once you make it through
- [00:40:10.686]the application part, you'll reach a a page called Housing
- [00:40:13.440]services and that's where you can enter the roommate Finder if
- [00:40:16.380]you wish.
- [00:40:17.280]If you're looking for a specific person, they have to have made
- [00:40:20.181]it through.
- [00:40:20.680]They've had to have put in their application and contract for you
- [00:40:23.320]to find them.
- [00:40:23.840]So if if Lucas had his ducks in a row and I haven't done my, my
- [00:40:27.275]stuff yet, he's not going to be able to find me yet.
- [00:40:30.960]Once we're both in and and in, we can, we can search for one
- [00:40:34.478]another and we can match.
- [00:40:37.040]If you're not looking for a particular person, you will see
- [00:40:40.727]the ability to search.
- [00:40:42.080]You can search by, Oh my gosh, any of the questions, any of the
- [00:40:45.239]matching questions, if you're like this question is a most
- [00:40:48.152]important and I want to make sure this one matches.
- [00:40:50.720]You can search, you can really kind of maybe go a little wild.
- [00:40:54.960]So when you find someone, if we were searching and I found Lucas
- [00:40:57.598]and I was like, yeah, I think I might want to like chat more
- [00:41:00.074]with him, you're going to see a screen name and you're going to
- [00:41:02.672]see a circle.
- [00:41:03.200]Someone was mentioning the circle.
- [00:41:04.360]That's just the percentage match.
- [00:41:06.160]That means that you and that other person that based on the
- [00:41:09.401]questions that you answered, matched to that percentage.
- [00:41:13.560]So worth it.
- [00:41:14.840]It's helpful.
- [00:41:15.880]But it's not the end all be all by any means.
- [00:41:17.760]So at that point, if I'm like, yeah, I want to learn more about
- [00:41:20.551]Lucas, I can send him a message or I can look at how he answered
- [00:41:23.386]all the questions because.
- [00:41:24.520]Right.
- [00:41:24.760]Like if he answered that one question differently, I don't,
- [00:41:27.160]you know, not for me.
- [00:41:28.840]But that's how students can kind of communicate before they
- [00:41:32.325]actually match formally.
- [00:41:35.520]Let's see here, what else is in here?
- [00:41:37.960]How do we make sure we're paired?
- [00:41:39.600]Yeah, so you can pair.
- [00:41:41.120]You can kind of do two things.
- [00:41:42.280]You can either group with just one other person, so you have a
- [00:41:45.774]group of two, or you are welcome to do a group of four.
- [00:41:49.480]That way in the event that you live in a suite, are assigned a
- [00:41:52.566]suite building, then you have chosen all the people in your
- [00:41:55.506]suite.
- [00:41:56.600]If for some reason you're not, you know, placed in a suite
- [00:41:59.856]building, then the group leader will tell us how the rooms will
- [00:42:03.388]split.
- [00:42:03.800]So if the four of us on your screen we're going to live
- [00:42:06.798]together, say and and I'm the group leader, I would tell
- [00:42:09.850]housing through the portal, you know Lucas and Matt are going to
- [00:42:13.330]live together.
- [00:42:14.080]Lee and Kayla are going to live together if we should not get a
- [00:42:16.939]suite option.
- [00:42:18.000]So that's sort of how that works.
- [00:42:21.360]Kayla, what other ones did I miss?
- [00:42:23.440]Matt, we had talked about like you know, some deadlines to aim
- [00:42:26.894]for potentially April one.
- [00:42:29.080]Does that mean we had to submit our roommate also by then too to
- [00:42:31.779]be included in that first Priory group?
- [00:42:33.680]Good question.
- [00:42:34.240]So Roommate Finder will close May 1 anytime between now and
- [00:42:39.357]May one.
- [00:42:40.040]You're welcome to use the roommate Finder and match.
- [00:42:43.000]Your roommates do not need to be solidified until then.
- [00:42:47.200]You might very well want to prioritize getting in by April
- [00:42:50.628]one, but you might find your next new best friend on April
- [00:42:54.056]15th and that's OK.
- [00:42:56.520]The kind of the room preference part of it is, is outside
- [00:42:59.723]operates outside of the the roommate matching.
- [00:43:02.320]So just because I didn't have my my ducks in a row doesn't mean
- [00:43:05.795]Lucas is penalized because I'm his roommate.
- [00:43:08.600]Lucas has just got has his position better than I am to
- [00:43:12.851]help us get our preferred room if that makes sense.
- [00:43:16.800]So yes I think you would you know if you if you meet your new
- [00:43:20.014]best friend and roommate Finder encourage that you you both you
- [00:43:23.332]would have already had done everything by April one.
- [00:43:26.080]But if your buddy who's not got all of their ducks in a row is a
- [00:43:31.257]little bit later that's OK you will be their guide.
- [00:43:35.400]I guess you could say there was another question in there Kayla.
- [00:43:39.680]Oh, what happens after may one, right?
- [00:43:42.160]Like so I don't find anybody or I apply after May 1.
- [00:43:46.720]What happens?
- [00:43:47.480]Who assigns me?
- [00:43:48.560]The housing staff will assign you based on the way that you
- [00:43:50.930]answer the questions.
- [00:43:51.760]So just like that little circle that people are seeing with the
- [00:43:55.061]percentage match, we do our best to match folks that we think
- [00:43:58.259]will be compatible.
- [00:44:00.280]The way I know this surprises you, the way people answer those
- [00:44:04.167]questions isn't always accurate to who they are in college,
- [00:44:07.869]right?
- [00:44:08.240]You might be answering it as as a as a high school student now,
- [00:44:11.741]and you might find that actually, if I don't have to be
- [00:44:14.805]up at 7:30, I don't like being up at 7:30 and I thought I would
- [00:44:18.307]be right.
- [00:44:18.800]And so some of those things, you know, use the tool for what it's
- [00:44:22.358]designed to do to help you start a conversation.
- [00:44:26.240]At the end of the day, if you don't find anyone, you'll be
- [00:44:29.386]placed based on the match system.
- [00:44:31.600]And know that I'd encourage you to try it, right?
- [00:44:35.120]Living with another human is challenging, right?
- [00:44:38.840]My wife and I got married 10 years ago.
- [00:44:40.000]And we're still learning new little quirks about one another,
- [00:44:42.516]right?
- [00:44:42.760]And so.
- [00:44:43.160]And we love one another, right?
- [00:44:44.320]And so we want to make it work.
- [00:44:46.080]But with this person I've never met, give yourself some time and
- [00:44:50.281]and try it, but know that you're not committed to anything.
- [00:44:54.160]If you get here and you give it a try and you try to work with
- [00:44:56.733]your RA and and mediate some things, if it's just not
- [00:44:58.939]working, we'll help you.
- [00:45:01.240]Right.
- [00:45:01.640]So, thank you.
- [00:45:03.400]OK.
- [00:45:03.600]Like I was just going to add, AI was just going to add a joke
- [00:45:06.147]right there.
- [00:45:06.640]It's our best guess, right.
- [00:45:07.720]If it's like onlinematch.com.
- [00:45:09.280]And if it weren't, I'd be married, right.
- [00:45:11.840]So we're just we'd have to work.
- [00:45:13.040]We have to work for some things.
- [00:45:14.040]So we just always have to work at communication and that's part
- [00:45:17.012]of living with somebody else.
- [00:45:18.360]So that's the joke, Kayla.
- [00:45:20.280]So there you go.
- [00:45:23.360]So we mentioned meal plans.
- [00:45:25.120]We're so excited to eat on campus.
- [00:45:26.920]You know, we know that if we make we want to change our
- [00:45:29.824]choice, we can definitely do that.
- [00:45:31.640]But a few things like what if it's been paid already, what
- [00:45:34.537]does that look like?
- [00:45:35.840]And then also like could you just give some insight like
- [00:45:38.880]what's the most popular?
- [00:45:40.160]Like we want to make sure that we're in like what what, what's
- [00:45:43.520]the one that choose, choose the most, right.
- [00:45:45.920]So in the event that you chose the let's go with the credit
- [00:45:48.971]back, you chose the premium plan and that's decided what you
- [00:45:52.072]didn't want to in that in that meal plan change period we'll
- [00:45:55.174]right size you and and make sure that you that you give it back.
- [00:45:58.480]But the reason that we priced them similarly is so that you
- [00:46:01.835]could change and find that right fit.
- [00:46:03.960]It's just the amount of meal swipes per week in dining
- [00:46:06.579]dollars.
- [00:46:06.960]So we do that intentionally just all of them are similarly
- [00:46:10.658]valued, right as far as the the buying power that they that they
- [00:46:14.733]that they create in the in the dining program.
- [00:46:17.680]And so they're they're trying to get that out of there so that
- [00:46:21.112]there isn't a lot of transition and and reap and re credits with
- [00:46:24.653]the exception of the premium plan.
- [00:46:26.880]I know the question is what is the most popular one And
- [00:46:30.534]statistically I want to tell you that there are about 3 top
- [00:46:34.449]winners, meaning that our middle plans are all about the same.
- [00:46:39.280]So you really can't make a wrong choice.
- [00:46:42.360]I think it's really preferential to your, to your, to your
- [00:46:49.301]schedule.
- [00:46:50.520]So if I went really quickly, I know I'm not supposed to do
- [00:46:53.930]this, Caleb, but if I went really quickly back to the chart
- [00:46:57.398]here on the plan soap there it was.
- [00:46:59.840]So we see people in the middle, right, the 14200, the 12400 and
- [00:47:03.454]the ten 6600, those are pretty the those are the front runners
- [00:47:07.011]and depending on the year one of them leads over the other.
- [00:47:10.400]So the big red, the platinum and the diamond are where we see a
- [00:47:13.142]lot of our students sort of land.
- [00:47:14.600]And so there's really no, there's no wrong choice.
- [00:47:17.360]I keep saying that it's data-driven.
- [00:47:21.160]It's it's my opinion as well.
- [00:47:22.640]So both of those things you cannot make a wrong choice here.
- [00:47:26.440]So back to you, Kayla.
- [00:47:27.760]Yeah, you know, we have Lee here.
- [00:47:30.080]And I think a lot of people just want to know like what does this
- [00:47:32.384]whole entire fraternity sorority process look like?
- [00:47:34.360]Especially like, you know, what if my parents never went to
- [00:47:37.340]college or what if my parents were never part of a chapter?
- [00:47:40.560]Can you kind of just explain large, big picture, Lee,
- [00:47:43.277]especially for our students to identify as male who might want
- [00:47:46.448]to go paternity process and how can they get connected early on?
- [00:47:50.320]Absolutely.
- [00:47:51.000]OK.
- [00:47:51.400]So if you or your student are interested in joining an IFC
- [00:47:54.546]fraternity, usually typically in late February, we're going to
- [00:47:57.906]have an application process that opens up on our website.
- [00:48:01.000]You will not miss it.
- [00:48:01.960]It'll be on our website.
- [00:48:02.920]It'll be all over social media on how you can sign up.
- [00:48:06.240]And our fraternities do host a few events throughout the
- [00:48:09.038]semester.
- [00:48:09.480]So we'll have some events at admitted Student Day and that's
- [00:48:12.440]on March 23rd.
- [00:48:13.400]Typically around the spring game here, they'll also host some
- [00:48:16.922]events.
- [00:48:17.320]So there are a few things that happen, but they can't start
- [00:48:19.893]offering during bids until May 19th.
- [00:48:21.720]But I don't want any of you all to think that the bid has to
- [00:48:24.556]happen on May 19th.
- [00:48:25.440]Then because they're doing events throughout the summer,
- [00:48:28.778]our fraternities host a lot of informal events from May all the
- [00:48:32.527]way through August.
- [00:48:34.200]A lot of informal events.
- [00:48:35.360]Each of the chapters are hosting things.
- [00:48:36.960]We post all of those events through our website.
- [00:48:39.400]But honestly, checking their social media accounts or
- [00:48:41.990]Instagram accounts are the best ways to see when events are
- [00:48:44.868]happening, and sending those chapters Adm letting them know
- [00:48:47.746]you're interested or asking more questions is the best way to get
- [00:48:50.912]connected to any of our groups.
- [00:48:52.560]We're also around all through New Student Orientation, though
- [00:48:55.515]doing presentations and answering questions for any
- [00:48:57.994]folks.
- [00:48:58.280]But there's no deadline when you have to join an IFC fraternity
- [00:49:02.120]throughout the summer.
- [00:49:03.720]We have many fraternities that are also taking new members
- [00:49:06.290]throughout the fall and the spring as well, so if the summer
- [00:49:08.947]feels like maybe that's too soon to make a decision, you can get
- [00:49:11.778]here on campus, make some decisions, you know, around
- [00:49:14.131]academics and other organizations, and then decide
- [00:49:16.352]to join the fraternity and sorority community.
- [00:49:18.920]For anyone interested in joining a panelenic chapter, we host a
- [00:49:22.625]very formal recruitment process that takes place the week before
- [00:49:26.389]school begins.
- [00:49:27.440]There is nothing you need to do between now and when we open
- [00:49:31.231]applications on May 15th, and even then you don't have to sign
- [00:49:35.147]up on May 15th.
- [00:49:36.080]Applications will be open and through the end of July for
- [00:49:39.425]anyone that's interested in joining.
- [00:49:41.560]But there's not a lot of work that you have to do ahead of
- [00:49:44.036]time besides letting us know you're interested and then
- [00:49:46.386]moving in a few days early.
- [00:49:47.520]I believe it is Sunday, August 18th when move in, move in would
- [00:49:50.790]be and we have a recruitment process that takes place that
- [00:49:53.804]week before the semester begins.
- [00:49:55.920]And again, just to highlight our culturally based organizations,
- [00:49:58.749]if you or your student are interested in joining one of
- [00:50:01.187]those, those organizations do their recruitment and they
- [00:50:03.668]actually call it an intake process that takes place in both
- [00:50:06.280]the fall and the spring semester.
- [00:50:07.760]So nothing you need to do ahead of time.
- [00:50:09.680]If you're interested in joining one of those organizations, just
- [00:50:12.202]arrive here on campus and then you can let us know you're
- [00:50:14.453]interested.
- [00:50:16.440]Thank you so much, Lee, for that response.
- [00:50:18.560]We really appreciate it.
- [00:50:20.000]I'm I'm sure a lot of people are wanting to know what's next
- [00:50:22.513]step.
- [00:50:23.760]So a few more meal questions.
- [00:50:25.360]Cuz man, we are just like, did everybody eat dinner tonight?
- [00:50:28.120]Like how many meals a day are available?
- [00:50:31.040]Like I don't think it's like how many can we eat a day?
- [00:50:33.240]Like how many times can we eat?
- [00:50:34.280]But like how many options are there?
- [00:50:36.720]What's those dining hours?
- [00:50:38.520]Can I eat the whole entire day?
- [00:50:41.040]Absolutely.
- [00:50:41.480]So our program, they're structured is there 19 meals per
- [00:50:44.489]week or so, that's month, that's breakfast, lunch, dinner Monday
- [00:50:47.921]through Friday and brunch and dinner on the weekend.
- [00:50:50.720]So 19 meal periods per week.
- [00:50:52.920]But your meal plan also there's fourth meal options, so there's
- [00:50:55.724]late night meal options and there's meal exchange.
- [00:50:58.200]I talked about the complexity and the variety of the meal
- [00:51:00.998]plan.
- [00:51:01.600]I didn't go into some of that because that's where the IT gets
- [00:51:05.488]very overwhelming.
- [00:51:06.600]But there are, there are opportunities for you to trade a
- [00:51:08.682]meal at the markets.
- [00:51:09.400]There's opportunities for you to use your dining dollars in the
- [00:51:12.179]union.
- [00:51:12.680]There's a lot of different complexities that are available
- [00:51:15.512]on our website, but generally speaking three meals a day
- [00:51:18.248]during the week, brunch and dinner on the on the weekends.
- [00:51:21.480]I'm Kayla, while I'm talking, I'm just going to talk about the
- [00:51:25.164]priority of the community building from the from the
- [00:51:28.264]Q&A and I think that that's something that I really want to,
- [00:51:32.066]I really want to tease on here.
- [00:51:34.120]So the decision, the reason that our meal plans in our, in our
- [00:51:38.558]our dining centers are a blend of both all you care to Eat and
- [00:51:42.997]mobile first is due to if you look at the map and you look at
- [00:51:47.366]our campus, they're approximately located there that
- [00:51:51.100]a student can have an all you care to eat facility within a
- [00:51:55.328]block or a mobile first option within a block.
- [00:51:58.880]So that is soup.
- [00:52:00.440]We're trying to provide both areas and both opportunities for
- [00:52:03.666]all students to choose the type of dining program and the dining
- [00:52:07.048]delivery that they want, but particularly around Able and
- [00:52:10.066]community development as well as Sellec.
- [00:52:13.720]The cool thing actually is that those dining centers never
- [00:52:16.816]close, meaning that those spaces are always open.
- [00:52:19.440]I was just in Able today saw a whole bunch of students there,
- [00:52:22.647]students who are eating, students who are studying,
- [00:52:25.337]students who are taking us up on free fountain beverages, All of
- [00:52:28.700]those types of things were happening in Able.
- [00:52:31.360]And the cool thing is that if you are a student who's off
- [00:52:33.680]campus, you meet a friend.
- [00:52:35.720]We're on the fraternity who's living in a fraternity with Lee
- [00:52:38.601]and I.
- [00:52:38.880]And we have a class together and they are they're not on the meal
- [00:52:42.784]plan.
- [00:52:43.280]They might have packed the lunch from the from the facility could
- [00:52:46.160]bring it over to Able.
- [00:52:47.120]We could still all dine together.
- [00:52:48.400]So community is expanded actually in those centers
- [00:52:51.596]because there's no restriction of attendance.
- [00:52:54.760]And so we we wholeheartedly stand by the idea and priority
- [00:52:58.311]that communities build around the dining table.
- [00:53:01.200]And we want to make sure that as many people can join our table
- [00:53:04.366]as possible.
- [00:53:05.160]And so that would be how I'd answer that question.
- [00:53:06.920]Kayla, for those two open meal plan questions, back to you.
- [00:53:12.600]Thank you.
- [00:53:13.040]An interesting question, Matt.
- [00:53:15.640]I haven't heard this one yet.
- [00:53:16.680]I was trying to think from my days living in the rest of the
- [00:53:19.392]palace, I can't remember how many showers are in the
- [00:53:21.750]community bathrooms on a given floor.
- [00:53:24.360]Yes, I can tell you're a planner whoever's asking this we it
- [00:53:27.560]depends a little bit on the community that you're in, right?
- [00:53:30.760]So an able floor is a little bit larger than the Harper floor for
- [00:53:33.822]instance.
- [00:53:34.480]And if you live in massing Yale, those bathrooms look a little
- [00:53:36.654]different.
- [00:53:37.000]But it'd be fair to say 6 to 8 fixtures of each.
- [00:53:41.880]So whether that's toilet, sink or shower and if you haven't
- [00:53:45.490]been on our website with the virtual tours, if you're curious
- [00:53:49.221]what that looks like, we have each room tour video but also
- [00:53:52.832]the the community style restroom as well.
- [00:53:55.560]It's a very, you know, it's not what you might think.
- [00:53:58.840]Everything is stalled, still a very private experience.
- [00:54:01.840]So the other one that I saw was about move in and I think Lucas,
- [00:54:05.938]you made maybe a a throwaway comment, but let's blow that up
- [00:54:09.785]a minute, move in.
- [00:54:10.960]OK.
- [00:54:11.240]So the class classes begin on Monday, August 26th and move in
- [00:54:15.671]is traditionally the week before classes begin in the fall.
- [00:54:20.520]And so we'll have folks who will start moving in on Sunday the
- [00:54:23.754]18th and that'll move, move in will happen over the the couple.
- [00:54:27.040]The first part of that week, I guess you could say we do a kind
- [00:54:31.402]of a curbside move in experience.
- [00:54:33.720]And so if you can believe it, we time that out and want to
- [00:54:36.795]provide you a really robust experience.
- [00:54:38.880]So we will give you a specific date and time and that way we
- [00:54:41.846]can provide you excellent customer service and move your
- [00:54:44.618]belongings into your room for you.
- [00:54:46.400]So good to say, Mark, on your calendar the week of the 18th of
- [00:54:49.802]August, that'll be your move in at some point that week.
- [00:54:58.680]What other ones?
- [00:54:59.560]Oh, I can answer the no one quick.
- [00:55:01.320]There's a question about Honors, right.
- [00:55:03.240]So our Honors students have the ability to live in no
- [00:55:06.672]residential center.
- [00:55:07.880]That's a suite style building.
- [00:55:09.640]They do not have to live there.
- [00:55:11.320]They just happen to have that option.
- [00:55:13.320]Once you do the application and the contract, you can opt into
- [00:55:16.619]the Honors community if you wish.
- [00:55:19.280]If you do, know that anyone who lives in in NULL is part of the
- [00:55:23.103]honors program.
- [00:55:24.000]So if your best buddy is not going to join the honors program
- [00:55:27.078]but you still want to live with them, it'd be best to live in a
- [00:55:30.256]different building.
- [00:55:31.600]Honors is NULL is exclusively honors, so you have that option
- [00:55:35.320]once you go through the process.
- [00:55:37.240]Awesome.
- [00:55:39.880]We have a few minutes left here for some last minute questions.
- [00:55:43.040]I did put the chat a minute Student day has been referenced
- [00:55:45.540]a few times.
- [00:55:46.040]This is a day on a Saturday for all of our meta students, so I
- [00:55:49.097]did put the sign up there.
- [00:55:50.680]Also there's you all are great planners.
- [00:55:52.760]We're really excited to have you all playing so well, putting
- [00:55:55.473]right now the dates and deadlines so that way you can
- [00:55:57.837]just be aware of what's coming up so you can put on your
- [00:56:00.332]calendar, be aware of what's going on.
- [00:56:02.800]And then if you could just, we do have some upcoming webinars,
- [00:56:05.395]I'm going to put those in there too.
- [00:56:06.920]So in February, we'll have some more webinars regarding like
- [00:56:10.008]what is this whole entire enrollment orientation process
- [00:56:12.893]look like.
- [00:56:13.800]In March, we'll have interpreting your financial aid
- [00:56:17.033]offer.
- [00:56:17.880]I know FAFSA has been a really hot topic for a lot of people
- [00:56:20.526]right now.
- [00:56:21.080]We're excited to start awarding that aid come March and then
- [00:56:24.104]obviously in July as you all prepare, start packing for move
- [00:56:27.128]in, we want to talk about what you should prepare for for move
- [00:56:30.251]in.
- [00:56:31.520]And then again, Matt, if you want to answer that question, a
- [00:56:34.140]question regarding, you know when does the Honors housing
- [00:56:36.631]program open, that'd be great.
- [00:56:37.920]Thanks Layla.
- [00:56:38.520]I meant to click the type response.
- [00:56:40.080]Sorry folks, Honors housing is open now.
- [00:56:43.760]So if you once you go through the process you can opt into to
- [00:56:47.056]null if you wish.
- [00:56:47.960]Awesome.
- [00:56:52.960]All right.
- [00:56:53.480]Well, we have done our due diligence and answered all those
- [00:56:56.702]questions.
- [00:56:57.640]I haven't checked the basketball score yet.
- [00:57:00.120]I've been trying to be really we're doing well.
- [00:57:03.040]Y'all we're doing well.
- [00:57:04.360]I don't want to jinx anything, but it looks like we don't have
- [00:57:09.217]any final questions.
- [00:57:11.120]I'll wait just one more minute before we officially close.
- [00:57:13.400]But before we do close, I just want to say thank you again to
- [00:57:16.431]my colleagues across campus.
- [00:57:18.000]Really appreciate you spending your Tuesday night with us.
- [00:57:20.760]I really appreciate it.
- [00:57:21.360]Again, to all of you who spent your Tuesday night, East Coast,
- [00:57:24.305]Midwest, West Coast.
- [00:57:25.240]We're really excited to have you here.
- [00:57:26.960]You want to see you on campus?
- [00:57:29.080]Yes.
- [00:57:29.680]Thank you for joining.
- [00:57:30.920]We have one more minute, but I don't think it might be in the
- [00:57:34.204]last minute.
- [00:57:35.440]In the last minute, on behalf of Matt, myself and all of the
- [00:57:38.483]folks in the housing and dining, the 400 staff members who serve,
- [00:57:41.776]you were so appreciative that you spent some time with us.
- [00:57:44.880]We're really looking forward to making our halls, your homes in
- [00:57:48.421]the fall.
- [00:57:49.280]Yeah.
- [00:57:49.520]Does pineapple belong on pizza?
- [00:57:50.920]Absolutely.
- [00:57:51.640]Jennifer.
- [00:57:52.440]I think that's a divisive topic, But I think some people will
- [00:57:54.989]will have that in the dining Center for you.
- [00:57:57.680]That's great.
- [00:57:59.200]And then rush, please, please fill the FAFA.
- [00:58:02.640]I know some families think like, Nope, we're not going to be able
- [00:58:05.662]to.
- [00:58:06.120]We make too much money.
- [00:58:07.480]You just never know.
- [00:58:08.680]My director of scholarship pension aid Doctor Justin Case
- [00:58:11.646]Brown tells All Families fill it out you would you really want to
- [00:58:15.022]give yourself the all the opportunities.
- [00:58:17.120]And all opportunities means filling out the FAFSA.
- [00:58:19.040]So please fill it out.
- [00:58:20.520]Our deadline is may one save plenty of time.
- [00:58:27.960]All right.
- [00:58:28.520]Thank you all so much.
- [00:58:29.240]It is 8:00.
- [00:58:30.520]Have a great night.
- [00:58:31.600]Go Big Red.
- [00:58:32.520]Thank you.
