- [00:00:00.000](upbeat music)
- [00:00:03.603]Hello, my name is
- [00:00:04.904]Nick Pace, and I serve as
- [00:00:06.506]acting dean of the College
- [00:00:07.891]of Education and Human Sciences
- [00:00:09.659]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:11.611]My permanent position in the college
- [00:00:13.596]is professor and chairperson
- [00:00:15.265]in the Department
- [00:00:16.249]of Educational Administration.
- [00:00:18.218]I arrived at UNL in 2017
- [00:00:21.504]to serve in that role
- [00:00:23.957]So I served for 17 years
- [00:00:26.109]at the University of Northern Iowa.
- [00:00:28.128]Before coming to Nebraska,
- [00:00:30.730]I was a faculty member
- [00:00:31.898]in Teacher Education
- [00:00:33.333]and in School Leadership
- [00:00:35.685]at Northern Iowa, a couple of years
- [00:00:38.655]as program coordinator
- [00:00:39.756]and a couple of years as department head.
- [00:00:42.342]I was a middle and high school
- [00:00:44.260]principal before that
- [00:00:45.495]and a middle and high school teacher
- [00:00:48.081]before that at a
- [00:00:50.316]couple of districts in Iowa.
- [00:00:52.652]Most of my research
- [00:00:53.770]has been around
- [00:00:54.971]preparing and sustaining
- [00:00:56.456]school principals.
- [00:00:57.607]It's a super challenging position.
- [00:01:00.693]I think that's
- [00:01:02.145]those challenges
- [00:01:02.862]have increased in the last five years.
- [00:01:04.948]It's certainly increased
- [00:01:05.915]in the 25 or so years
- [00:01:07.283]since I served in that role.
- [00:01:09.085]I am humbled and honored
- [00:01:11.988]and at times awed at the opportunity
- [00:01:14.824]to serve as acting dean of our college.
- [00:01:18.094]It's such a fabulous
- [00:01:20.930]source of
- [00:01:22.065]community and place of knowledge
- [00:01:23.833]and ideas and collaboration and impact.
- [00:01:26.903]I've said over and over
- [00:01:28.304]that the college has been so well
- [00:01:29.773]led for so many years
- [00:01:31.724]by those who have served before me.
- [00:01:34.461]And it's an honor
- [00:01:35.328]to be in this space, in this role.
- [00:01:37.730]What has surprised me about CEHS
- [00:01:39.966]since becoming acting dean
- [00:01:41.968]is the excellence that exists
- [00:01:45.405]in all corners of the college.
- [00:01:47.340]Not that I didn't know it was there,
- [00:01:49.609]but there are so many things
- [00:01:51.211]and opportunities and expertise
- [00:01:53.646]that I didn't know
- [00:01:54.714]from my previous vantage
- [00:01:55.832]point as as chairperson
- [00:01:57.150]of educational administration.
- [00:01:59.002]There's passion, there's commitment,
- [00:02:01.621]there's energy.
- [00:02:02.755]And it's it's great.
- [00:02:05.508]It's great to be a part of
- [00:02:07.193]and to serve and support.
- [00:02:09.279]My hope for the future of the college is
- [00:02:11.648]continued trajectory of excellence
- [00:02:14.634]to more broadly
- [00:02:15.969]and widely and consistently share
- [00:02:19.088]the impacts that students
- [00:02:20.607]and faculty and staff in our college
- [00:02:22.742]have in their fields,
- [00:02:24.844]on their communities.
- [00:02:26.729]I often feel that
- [00:02:27.597]we're so busy doing excellent work
- [00:02:31.167]that the excellence doesn't get shared
- [00:02:33.870]as widely or as often or as deeply
- [00:02:37.140]as it could and should.
- [00:02:38.374]And one of the things I'm committed to is
- [00:02:40.910]really helping get that word out,
- [00:02:43.196]because there are
- [00:02:44.664]there are so many remarkable differences
- [00:02:47.183]being made every day across our college.
