- [00:00:05.472]Nick Pace, and I serve as
- [00:00:07.023]acting dean of the
- [00:00:08.058]College of Education and Human Sciences
- [00:00:10.243]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:12.062]I grew up in the small town
- [00:00:13.847]of Winterset, Iowa,
- [00:00:15.015]which is about a half
- [00:00:16.633]hour south and west of Des Moines.
- [00:00:18.451]I am six feet ten inches tall,
- [00:00:20.854]so I'm easy to find.
- [00:00:22.205]We do have two pets.
- [00:00:24.457]We have Chip,
- [00:00:25.575]the yellow lab
- [00:00:27.510]who came from a shelter in Iowa.
- [00:00:29.329]And we have Taco, the Orange
- [00:00:31.514]alley cat
- [00:00:32.265]who came from a different shelter.
- [00:00:34.401]My favorite subjects
- [00:00:35.635]in high school were English.
- [00:00:38.455]Anything to do with social studies.
- [00:00:41.041]We had a mass
- [00:00:41.908]media course in high school
- [00:00:43.676]where we actually produced
- [00:00:45.361]WHS-TV that was on the
- [00:00:47.680]local cable channel.
- [00:00:49.015]That was a lot of fun.
- [00:00:51.184]So I just finished Demon Copperhead
- [00:00:54.721]by Barbara Kingsolver.
- [00:00:56.089]It was a terrific book.
- [00:00:58.224]And I always have some Ted Kooser
- [00:00:59.976]or some Mary Oliver poetry close at hand.
- [00:01:03.947]Some John O'Donohue.
- [00:01:06.349]Those are some go tos.
- [00:01:07.734]I don't really think
- [00:01:08.968]in terms of bucket list.
- [00:01:11.071]I would really like
- [00:01:11.855]to go to Banff in Canada.
- [00:01:14.824]I've heard that is indescribable.
- [00:01:18.244]But I generally just
- [00:01:19.712]try to be fully present
- [00:01:21.581]all the time wherever I am
- [00:01:23.883]and take in the people
- [00:01:25.452]and the things and the
- [00:01:27.504]space around me.
- [00:01:28.955]I love the difference
- [00:01:30.039]in feel
- [00:01:30.790]between City Campus and East Campus
- [00:01:32.559]with a little more green space
- [00:01:33.910]and a little less downtown
- [00:01:35.545]vibe on East Campus.
- [00:01:37.447]I love the sculpture garden,
- [00:01:39.099]west of the Sheldon on City Campus.
- [00:01:42.702]And I just love spending time
- [00:01:45.522]out on campus.
- [00:01:46.689]It's a great way to decompress
- [00:01:48.808]and just be present.
- [00:01:50.493]I think students help us improve.
- [00:01:52.896]They help us grow.
- [00:01:54.013]They help us raise our game
- [00:01:55.231]as faculty and staff members.
- [00:01:57.450]I've always wanted to be a part
- [00:01:59.219]of an organization
- [00:02:00.203]that does
- [00:02:01.254]really impactful difference making work
- [00:02:03.957]and have fun doing it.
- [00:02:05.592]And we definitely have
- [00:02:06.676]that opportunity in CEHS.
- [00:02:09.529]Now that you know a bit about me.
