- [00:00:23.400]Rural Prosperity Nebraska's
- [00:00:24.810]eCommunities program helps entrepreneurs
- [00:00:27.450]start their own businesses
- [00:00:29.040]from coming up with ideas to cutting the red ribbon.
- [00:00:32.250]One business that has benefited from the expertise
- [00:00:34.620]of the program's e-coaches is 1-to-1 Technologies
- [00:00:37.890]in Central City owned by Cody Lawson.
- [00:00:40.470]You can teach someone technology,
- [00:00:42.690]but you can't teach someone their personality.
- [00:00:45.210]And that's what we do differently here.
- [00:00:47.508]You know, I hire for smiles.
- [00:00:49.710]Every staff member that we have here,
- [00:00:51.210]I really don't care if they don't know a whole lot
- [00:00:54.240]about technology, if they're, as long as they're
- [00:00:55.950]very personable and they truly, truly care,
- [00:00:58.530]we can teach 'em everything else.
- [00:01:00.330]Lawson started his company
- [00:01:01.680]as Cody's Computer Repair Service
- [00:01:03.570]after graduating from high school.
- [00:01:05.670]Since then, he has moved locations,
- [00:01:08.070]rebranded under a new name
- [00:01:09.750]and is currently opening a second location in Omaha.
- [00:01:12.930]One of our employees here, she's been with us
- [00:01:15.900]for five years and she actually
- [00:01:17.550]was moving to the Omaha area.
- [00:01:19.470]So we really thought what better opportunity than
- [00:01:22.860]to just start up a location.
- [00:01:24.570]So she's there now
- [00:01:25.890]and getting all the things put in place so
- [00:01:28.410]that we can officially,
- [00:01:29.310]hopefully open up by the end of the year.
- [00:01:31.140]Doris Lux an eCoach from the eCommunities program
- [00:01:34.260]has helped Lawson along his 15-year journey.
- [00:01:37.620]Basically our relationship now is he has ideas
- [00:01:42.150]or he has a problem or an issue
- [00:01:44.790]and he just bounces it off of me,
- [00:01:46.515]and I'll say, you know, have you thought about this or that?
- [00:01:51.150]And he's one of those that listens to me
- [00:01:55.890]and then he takes off with it.
- [00:01:57.360]So, and she's also, you know,
- [00:01:58.830]not only a coach when it comes to that,
- [00:02:00.480]but also an accountability partner.
- [00:02:02.970]Yeah, she's the type of person that'll come in,
- [00:02:05.250]have you set your goals, and then you know
- [00:02:08.730]that the next time she comes back in, we're going
- [00:02:10.800]to go over those goals and see if you actually accomplish
- [00:02:13.050]them or, or worked on 'em, so.
- [00:02:15.690]The eCommunities program not only
- [00:02:17.310]helps entrepreneurs start businesses,
- [00:02:19.680]but it also helps city leaders foster
- [00:02:21.810]a stronger entrepreneurial environment
- [00:02:24.000]within their communities.
- [00:02:25.920]That community influence and customer interaction
- [00:02:28.290]has been crucial to 1-to-1 Technology's success.
- [00:02:31.500]During Covid was kind of a big wake-up moment
- [00:02:34.290]for all of us 'cause we had a lot of families
- [00:02:37.170]that couldn't connect with their loved ones
- [00:02:39.420]and we were there to provide that support.
- [00:02:41.220]And I can't, I can't tell you how many times I sat on
- [00:02:44.340]like a Zoom call or even like a FaceTime with a customer
- [00:02:46.861]and they're just sobbing because on the other end
- [00:02:48.960]we can hear 'em talking to their family.
- [00:02:51.150]Those are some of the most precious moments I have.
- [00:02:54.101]And knowing that we're making
- [00:02:55.710]like a huge difference here every day.
- [00:02:57.990]To date, the eCommunities program
- [00:02:59.940]has helped 129 businesses in 20 communities
- [00:03:04.140]and 12 Nebraska counties.
- [00:03:06.210]But in the end, it always comes down to the people.
- [00:03:09.090]Our biggest motto here, if I could say anything,
- [00:03:11.280]is that we're not tech support, we're people support.
- [00:03:14.160]That's what we live by every single day.
- [00:03:16.189](light guitar music)
