- [00:00:20.086]I’m an associate professor
- [00:00:21.154]of Elementary Literacy Education
- [00:00:23.123]here at UNL,
- [00:00:24.357]and I want to extend an invitation
- [00:00:27.093]to you to join me on a study abroad
- [00:00:30.597]this summer, 2024,
- [00:00:32.999]exploring children's literature
- [00:00:35.335]in London.
- [00:00:36.503]We will spend three weeks in the city
- [00:00:40.073]by the Thames
- [00:00:41.174]exploring children's literature,
- [00:00:43.877]art work around children's literature,
- [00:00:46.746]middle grades novels that feature London
- [00:00:49.749]as an integral part of the storyline,
- [00:00:52.819]all while exploring the city
- [00:00:56.056]and all of its delightful resources.
- [00:00:58.391]Not only will we have a chance to explore
- [00:01:00.627]children's literature,
- [00:01:01.895]but we'll connect
- [00:01:02.929]that children's literature
- [00:01:04.197]that we're reading
- [00:01:05.565]to cultural experiences within the city,
- [00:01:08.701]including the V & A Art Museum,
- [00:01:11.004]we will look at
- [00:01:12.272]picture book illustrations
- [00:01:13.606]and how they've evolved over time.
- [00:01:15.275]We'll take a tour of
- [00:01:16.209]the Warner Brother’s
- [00:01:17.143]Harry Potter experience
- [00:01:18.645]to see how they've created
- [00:01:20.513]the magical environment.
- [00:01:22.649]And we will leverage
- [00:01:24.217]other museums within London,
- [00:01:25.752]such as the Tate
- [00:01:26.753]and the Cartoon Museum,
- [00:01:28.455]to expand
- [00:01:29.322]our knowledge around how
- [00:01:30.759]children's literature functions.
- [00:01:33.126]This three week program
- [00:01:35.762]is going to really equip you
- [00:01:38.965]with the knowledge that you need
- [00:01:40.433]in order to motivate kids
- [00:01:42.001]to read within your
- [00:01:43.470]elementary classroom spaces.
- [00:01:45.271]And because it's TEAC 302 or 802,
- [00:01:49.242]for undergraduates
- [00:01:50.977]this isn't an elective.
- [00:01:52.312]You can count this
- [00:01:53.313]as part of your Teacher Education Program
- [00:01:56.583]in Elementary Education.
