- [00:00:08.670]The RESPECT Across Nebraska Project
- [00:00:10.410]is designed to create pathways for early childhood educators
- [00:00:13.680]to earn degrees and certification
- [00:00:15.810]which is ultimately going to mean higher quality care
- [00:00:19.050]and education for young children and their families.
- [00:00:21.630]And in order to do that, we need to remove barriers
- [00:00:25.140]and create pathways for them to do that,
- [00:00:27.330]which means having a common set
- [00:00:29.430]of competencies that can be aligned to curriculum
- [00:00:31.980]at all institutions of higher education
- [00:00:33.960]in Nebraska will facilitate transfer of credit.
- [00:00:36.870]And then aligning those competencies
- [00:00:38.730]with certification means that every class
- [00:00:42.120]an educator takes is gonna count for something.
- [00:00:44.700]It also means that we need to create supports
- [00:00:47.460]for them in order to be able to do that.
- [00:00:49.740]We are collecting data on student experiences
- [00:00:52.722]as professionals and as students to really learn
- [00:00:56.340]about what obstacles they encounter
- [00:00:58.260]and what kinds of things have supported them
- [00:01:00.442]along the way in their career.
- [00:01:01.275]And we're using that data in order to design
- [00:01:04.905]the supports that will be needed.
- [00:01:07.110]We're also collecting data
- [00:01:08.460]on what's important to communities.
- [00:01:10.200]So we're doing some community-based
- [00:01:11.460]participatory research to really understand
- [00:01:15.060]what people think is important
- [00:01:16.830]for early childhood educators to know
- [00:01:18.840]and be able to do, and what kinds of experiences
- [00:01:21.480]are important for young children.
- [00:01:23.160]And that will inform our coursework and competencies.
- [00:01:27.750]Sometimes it's really tricky to get people together.
- [00:01:30.120]We have smaller work groups though
- [00:01:31.740]and we've developed mechanisms
- [00:01:33.300]for maintaining communication,
- [00:01:35.130]even if people aren't able to attend all meetings.
- [00:01:37.530]But it's really important to get as many perspectives
- [00:01:40.050]as possible at the table.
- [00:01:41.850]Well, ultimately,
- [00:01:43.050]we'll have more highly qualified teachers
- [00:01:45.630]serving young children
- [00:01:46.530]and their families, but it will also help professionals
- [00:01:49.020]in the field to earn their certification,
- [00:01:51.606]to transfer credits, to demonstrate their competencies
- [00:01:55.980]and to provide better quality care for young children.
