- [00:00:01.230]We're back here on "Countdown to Kickoff."
- [00:00:02.610]Huskers today hosting the Purdue Boilermakers. 2:35 kickoff.
- [00:00:06.360]It's been homecoming week and as we do every week,
- [00:00:08.430]a chance to chat with the chancellor
- [00:00:09.960]of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dr. Rodney Bennett.
- [00:00:12.390]Homecoming week. That's always a fun time.
- [00:00:14.531]Greg, oh my god. I saw some pictures of you
- [00:00:15.677]out doing some great things. Greg, Greg, Greg,
- [00:00:16.995]let me just tell you,
- [00:00:18.840]homecoming week at a university is just fantastic.
- [00:00:22.890]So many activities, so much energy,
- [00:00:25.560]so many people coming back,
- [00:00:27.570]so many connections that have been made.
- [00:00:29.760]It's awesome.
- [00:00:30.960]And the students talked me into participating in Showtime.
- [00:00:36.930]So I've been out lip syncing, dancing,
- [00:00:40.470]carrying on with student organizations,
- [00:00:42.930]and I tell you what, I would not take anything for it.
- [00:00:45.300]It's been awesome.
- [00:00:46.740]I'm sure you were terrific. I, well, I, you know,
- [00:00:48.870]I wasn't gonna say it,
- [00:00:50.160]but since you brought it up, the group that I was with
- [00:00:52.440]ended up winning the competition.
- [00:00:54.180]There you go.
- [00:00:55.013]I'm not saying that's 'cause I was a part of the group,
- [00:00:57.060]but I'm just saying that they actually won first place.
- [00:00:59.370]So there you have it.
- [00:01:00.450]Very good.
- [00:01:01.283]Well, busy activities. The parade was on Friday.
- [00:01:03.450]Also on Friday the athletic department
- [00:01:05.700]enshrined some new members into their Athletics Hall of Fame
- [00:01:08.790]and I just love the fact that it kind of goes over
- [00:01:10.920]a wide variety of sports.
- [00:01:12.180]It's not just a football or a basketball thing.
- [00:01:14.280]It encompasses a lot of different athletics.
- [00:01:15.990]Isn't that the beauty of it.
- [00:01:17.220]You know, I was just so amazed by the Huskers
- [00:01:21.210]who were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- [00:01:23.640]I mean these six incredible individuals
- [00:01:26.880]who, as you mentioned, represent just a variety of sport
- [00:01:31.380]and athletic competition.
- [00:01:33.240]And so, you know, we appreciate them and we thank them
- [00:01:36.720]for their contributions to the university
- [00:01:39.060]while they were students here.
- [00:01:41.070]And now as they have sort of gone on with their lives
- [00:01:43.350]still staying connected with Nebraska
- [00:01:46.200]and with UNL is something really special.
- [00:01:48.750]Well, we mentioned such a busy week.
- [00:01:50.100]Yesterday was really busy.
- [00:01:51.390]That that took place, the Hall of Fame,
- [00:01:53.010]and also the celebration of service
- [00:01:55.410]for university faculty and staff.
- [00:01:57.420]Can you lay out some of the highlights of that?
- [00:01:59.160]Well, lemme tell you something.
- [00:02:00.390]I look forward to the day of being recognized
- [00:02:03.450]for having given 45 years of service, 50 years of service.
- [00:02:07.470]I mean, you think about the years of collective service
- [00:02:11.460]that are represented at UNL
- [00:02:13.830]and just the history and the devotion and the commitment
- [00:02:17.430]to Nebraska and to the institution.
- [00:02:19.920]People always ask me what drew me to Nebraska?
- [00:02:23.280]And I always say it's the unwavering dedication
- [00:02:27.030]and support that citizens of the state
- [00:02:30.120]have towards their university.
- [00:02:32.220]And it's something that we should not take for granted
- [00:02:34.740]because it's not always prevalent in other schools
- [00:02:38.490]that I've been affiliated with.
- [00:02:40.440]Fantastic. Well, I'm glad you survived.
- [00:02:42.360]I'm glad you were victorious
- [00:02:43.413](Rodney laughing) earlier in the week.
- [00:02:44.246]Let's hope the Huskers are victorious today
- [00:02:45.990]on the football.
- [00:02:47.070]Ah, let's go. Go Big Red, right?
- [00:02:48.867]Very good.
- [00:02:49.710]Rodney Bennett with us here on "Countdown to Kickoff."
- [00:02:52.020]Matt Coney's back with the "Big 10 Blitz."
- [00:02:53.910]That's coming up next.
