[00:00:00.750]Over four years ago, I stepped into Hawks Hall
[00:00:03.150]for the first time for a high school accounting program
[00:00:05.940]and I instantly knew I wanted to further my education here.
[00:00:09.840]However, in the back of my head,
[00:00:11.766]I also knew it would be a challenge to afford UNL.
[00:00:15.360]I am a first generation college student
[00:00:17.430]who grew up in a hardworking production agriculture family.
[00:00:21.360]Going to a four-year school was not the normal route
[00:00:23.790]that many of my peers were taking in my hometown.
[00:00:26.610]However, I was determined to find a way to attend UNL.
[00:00:31.020]I picked up more hours at my local restaurant,
[00:00:33.327]proofread scholarship statements,
[00:00:35.640]studied to retake the ACT, and created a budget
[00:00:38.730]that maxed out my available student loans.
[00:00:41.610]I took a risk because I knew UNL
[00:00:44.190]would be worth the investment.
[00:00:46.350]Little did I know I was in for an amazing surprise.
[00:00:49.710]I had been awarded a College of Business scholarship
[00:00:51.987]in addition to my already expected financial aid plan.

[00:00:57.180]when I think of this moment is relief.
[00:01:00.540]My scholarship allowed me to focus
[00:01:02.250]on the most important aspects of college,
[00:01:05.130]education and networking.
[00:01:07.980]Throughout my time in the College of Business,

[00:01:12.210]in the business community.
[00:01:13.920]Early into my academic career,
[00:01:15.780]I joined a few student organizations
[00:01:17.626]to start creating a network
[00:01:19.230]of fellow future business leaders.
[00:01:21.990]One of my most memorable collegiate experiences
[00:01:24.066]was joining the Deloitte Audit Innovation Campus Challenge
[00:01:27.690]this past school year, where my teammates and I
[00:01:30.150]leveraged the knowledge and experiences we've gained
[00:01:32.520]throughout our coursework to create an innovative response
[00:01:35.370]regarding auditing ESG.
