[00:00:04.653]service learning to benefit the 4-hers and

[00:00:08.753]Natalie Creech, Scottsbluff 4-H leader,
[00:00:11.162]explained the theme this year.
[00:00:13.404]This year, the theme for robotics is
[00:00:16.274]anything to deal with the arts. So,
[00:00:18.559]promoting a hobby but then being able to
[00:00:21.465]show impact and impact our community for
[00:00:24.544]the better. And because I am the sewing
[00:00:26.966]club leader but also I’m a robotics leader
[00:00:29.068]this year. The two can combine to, you
[00:00:33.006]know, make a perfect partnership.
[00:00:35.529]Creech said the two will work together,
[00:00:37.647]sharing ideas and equipment.
[00:00:39.475]In both areas, kids have to think and use
[00:00:42.142]their brains, whether you're reading a
[00:00:43.491]pattern or designing a robot, or thinking
[00:00:45.706]through a complex problem. You’re, you’re
[00:00:48.449]really using similar skills. And it just
[00:00:52.501]depends on what your interests are at that
[00:00:54.543]point, of whether you want to do the robot
[00:00:58.353]side of things or the sewing side of things.
[00:01:00.644]Creech said 4-h builds on skills youth
[00:01:03.244]learn to keep them growing.
[00:01:05.254]There’s a lot of engineering that goes
[00:01:07.065]into sewing I mean, someone has to create
[00:01:09.268]a sewing machine, whether it's an
[00:01:10.870]embroidery machine, just a simple sewing
[00:01:12.387]machine, a quilting machine, and in
[00:01:14.657]robotics they are also designing and
[00:01:16.887]engineering, and uh. Heaven only knows
[00:01:20.305]what the future holds as they merge together
[00:01:22.802]and as kids use their brains to think
[00:01:25.128]and work through complex problems.
[00:01:27.385]The 4-Hers will be coming together in
[00:01:29.458]December over school break to work
[00:01:31.089]on the project and will be preparing for
[00:01:33.318]March and the state 4-H competition.
