[00:00:10.634]people who were in that same experience alongside me allowed me to create
[00:00:15.396]impactful friendships and relationships and have people to lean on when I was

[00:00:22.229]Yeah, for me, I...since I'm from a very, very small community like my high school
[00:00:28.777]was like 36 people. I'm not used to this big, wide world or having restaurants to
[00:00:34.187]go to, so coming here to Lincoln, it [Learning Communities] was just like a
[00:00:37.941]little safety net like a little "home away from home" where I got to know everyone on
[00:00:42.991]like a personal level and if I started struggling with any of my homework, like
[00:00:47.301]my math homework last year, you know how many times the boys in our LC helped me?
[00:00:51.103]We'd like sit down and talk it...talk me through or when you guys were doing
[00:00:55.103]econ. [economics] and I was the "ag. [agriculture] person" to talk to.
[00:00:59.961]I just...we would all help each other and we were just all there for each other like
[00:01:04.383]if they heard something has gone on at least...gone wrong, at least five people
[00:01:08.583]would come to you afterwards, be like "hey, are you good?" Like everyone would
[00:01:12.243]check up on each other and just be there for each other and that's...that's one
[00:01:16.333]thing that I'm just so grateful for.

[00:01:28.206]My Learning Community helped me find friends on campus because not only did we
[00:01:32.206]share something in common, but we are also in shared classes with the Learning
[00:01:37.666]Community and, so that was really nice, always being able to walk into a class and
[00:01:41.535]having someone to sit with.
[00:01:43.604]It was also really nice because my Peer Mentor was able to help me figure out how
[00:01:48.684]to use certain resources and find certain student organizations I would be
[00:01:52.584]interested in, which also helped me to develop friendships.
[00:01:58.615]Being in my Learning Community, one of our shared classes my freshman year was
[00:02:03.605]"Intro. to Health Professions." In that class, it was led by someone from the
[00:02:08.488]Explore Center who was specifically focused on students wanting to go into
[00:02:12.578]pre-health careers. With that, we got to ...she brought in a lot of different
[00:02:18.637]community members that were in different healthcare professions. So, we got to
[00:02:23.077]speak to nursing students, we got to speak to the College of Dentistry, we got to
[00:02:28.644]talk to a chiropractor, a physician's assistant, some physical therapists, and
[00:02:35.524]getting to know more of the details and the differences between each of those
[00:02:39.524]jobs, finding out more about
[00:02:41.378]their work life balance was really interesting. It kind of helped me narrow
[00:02:44.978]down that I didn't want to go into nursing and if I am going to go into the
[00:02:49.744]healthcare field, I would like to be a physician, specifically a D.O.
[00:02:54.780]instead of a M.D.
