[00:00:04.000]As a part of Learning Communities at UNL, you will
[00:00:06.950]LIVE with and alongside other students who share your academic,
[00:00:10.617]career, and/or life interests or identities,
[00:00:13.207]creating a tight-knit community within your residence hall on campus.
[00:00:17.207]You will LEARN alongside your fellow LC peers through shared courses
[00:00:21.207]ranging from general education to major or career specific seminars.
[00:00:26.417]And, finally, you will CONNECT with students of similar interests,
[00:00:30.508]your Peer Mentor,
[00:00:32.437]and university faculty and staff who have
[00:00:34.386]an expertise or shared interest in your area
[00:00:36.486]who will work alongside you to create worthwhile experiences
[00:00:39.656]and offer support throughout the year.
[00:00:41.690]By joining a Learning Community, you will build relationships with peers
[00:00:45.475]in your residence hall and major,
[00:00:47.446]achieve academic success through a variety of support systems and
[00:00:50.676]shared courses with your Learning Community,
[00:00:53.257]and explore career paths by participating in a variety of programs put on
[00:00:57.802]by your Peer Mentor and Sponsor.
[00:01:00.702]The Learning Communities at UNL have been able to provide many different programs
[00:01:04.512]throughout the year to engage our students and provide the best experience
[00:01:07.986]possible. From social programs like our Welcome Event and Trivia Night where you
[00:01:11.986]and your friends can compete for amazing prizes to Peer Mentor-led floor study
[00:01:17.412]hours allowing you dedicated time to focus on your academics and get peer help
[00:01:21.682]when needed. And, finally, different Learning Community trips to businesses
[00:01:26.652]and workplaces in the area to talk with industry professionals and tour
[00:01:30.002]the facilities!
[00:01:30.892]To apply to a University of Nebraska Lincoln Learning Community, you will need
[00:01:34.892]to have access to the Housing Contract. Once the Housing Contract opens, you will
[00:01:38.892]then be able to "opt-in" to a Learning Community by selecting "Yes."
[00:01:43.632]After you select "Yes," all of the options for the Learning Communities being offered
[00:01:48.232]for that school year will be presented to you. You may then choose up to two
[00:01:52.232]preferences for Learning Communities to apply to. If you are going through the
[00:01:56.232]application in the Housing Contract and have any questions, please feel free to
[00:02:00.232]email the Learning Communities office at learningcommunities@unl.edu.
