[00:00:04.746]opportunities for youth. In Scottsbluff,
[00:00:07.286]every other Thursday, Nathan Rice,
[00:00:09.302]Nebraska Extension 4-H educator, hosts
[00:00:12.037]an Aeronautics Club at the Home School Coop.
[00:00:15.221]He explained their recent
[00:00:16.731]project dealing with drones.
[00:00:18.679]It’s hands on right. So the whole premise
[00:00:21.219]of 4-H is that we’re not just talking
[00:00:22.984]about it they actually get to experience it.
[00:00:24.589]So we did that two ways today.
[00:00:26.857]One was that they actually got to
[00:00:28.233]create their own rotor and to see
[00:00:30.228]the premise of that actual mechanism
[00:00:32.382]that lets drones and helicopters fly.
[00:00:34.184]And the second part was actually getting
[00:00:35.697]to fly that drone. Right. If we had
[00:00:37.549]just talked about drones, it wouldn’t
[00:00:39.120]have been near as exciting as actually
[00:00:40.865]having that drone in your hands and getting
[00:00:42.279]to see how it works. That’s that's the
[00:00:43.827]key to 4-H, and I think it works really well.
[00:00:46.424]Rice said it's not just about flying
[00:00:48.074]drones, but looking at how things fly.
[00:00:50.798]We’ve explored how the rotors work,
[00:00:53.038]we’ve explored kind of what makes a drone
[00:00:56.151]fly, what are the different physics components,
[00:00:58.363]on, what makes it go up. What is trying
[00:01:00.510]to bring it back down and the thrust that can
[00:01:02.565]bring it forward. And then we actually
[00:01:03.980]set up an obstacle course for the kids
[00:01:05.673]to have the opportunity to fly with
[00:01:07.162]smaller drones through those to see kinda how
[00:01:09.731]shakey they are, how easy they are to
[00:01:11.892]fly. And how far technology has come in
[00:01:13.581]improving drones over the last few years.
[00:01:15.728]According to the Nebraska Extension, more
[00:01:17.898]than 80,000 youth in Nebraska participate
[00:01:20.661]in 4-H school enrichment programs.
