[00:00:11.100]at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, Dr. Rodney Bennett.

[00:00:27.720]Friday night football is a little bit different.

[00:00:30.623]A lot of times you think about Friday night football
[00:00:32.610]in high school and junior high,
[00:00:34.377]but we'll take a Friday night and a victory.

[00:00:39.240]What kind of week has it been on campus?
[00:00:40.830]I'm sure it's been fairly busy.
[00:00:42.000]It has been busy.
[00:00:43.050]We've been rolling this week.
[00:00:44.370]There are absolutely no shortage of things to do
[00:00:47.730]in Lincoln and on campus every day,
[00:00:50.010]and this week has certainly not disappointed.
[00:00:53.580]I really wanted to share with you, Greg,
[00:00:55.350]and with your listeners,
[00:00:56.370]all that we've done this week around 4-H
[00:00:59.007]and Nebraska State Arboretum.
[00:01:02.310]As everybody probably knows,
[00:01:04.980]this week was National 4-H Week.
[00:01:08.220]And 4-H empowers nearly 6 million young people
[00:01:14.340]across the United States.
[00:01:16.170]That's a staggering number, and a number
[00:01:17.940]that a lot of people probably don't realize.
[00:01:20.490]And we have 140,000 young people who participate
[00:01:25.110]in 4-H across our state, the state of Nebraska.
[00:01:28.980]4-H in Nebraska is a big part
[00:01:31.380]of the university's work in our extension.
[00:01:34.770]And as you know, it is an incredible pipeline
[00:01:38.880]for young people who want to become Huskers
[00:01:41.841]and continue the great tradition of our land grant mission
[00:01:46.036]and the number one economic engine
[00:01:49.437]for the state of Nebraska, agriculture
[00:01:52.200]and natural resources.
[00:01:53.940]So we've been very fortunate to have that going on
[00:01:56.640]on campus this week.
[00:01:58.260]And anything that we can do to contribute
[00:02:00.945]to 4-H and young people
[00:02:02.460]and sort of keeping the momentum going,
[00:02:04.260]we wanna be a part of that.
[00:02:05.790]As you and I have discussed,
[00:02:06.990]with this being the flagship university of the state,
[00:02:10.380]UNL touches pretty much every county,
[00:02:12.780]every small town in the state.
[00:02:14.580]And I'm sure it's busy with extension and those type
[00:02:17.100]of things that the university does on a daily basis.
[00:02:19.650]Absolutely they were, I don't know the number right off,
[00:02:21.796]but I would imagine that there are thousands of visitors
[00:02:26.130]and people on our campus every day
[00:02:28.080]who are not working here, who are not students here,
[00:02:31.230]but people who are here for meetings,
[00:02:33.540]young people who are here to receive a tour of the campus,
[00:02:37.650]people who are just exploring the university
[00:02:40.230]as they're in downtown for whatever reason.
[00:02:43.326]Maybe the next time we visit, I'll have that number
[00:02:45.900]of how many visitors are on campus on a daily basis.
[00:02:49.920]I think we thrive on the energy of walking out
[00:02:53.910]and looking out and sort of being in a high-energy,
[00:02:57.600]high-pace sort of metropolitan area
[00:03:00.135]where students are going about their day,
[00:03:02.790]just sort of living their best life
[00:03:04.320]and learning and interacting with each other.
[00:03:06.660]It's a pretty special place to be, for sure.
[00:03:08.490]It's a beautiful time of year on campus, too.
[00:03:10.260]Everything looks so green and lush
[00:03:12.270]and the temperatures are cooling down,
[00:03:13.680]so it's a great time to go out
[00:03:15.210]and take a little walk on campus.

[00:03:19.470]I was a little bit surprised when the temperatures dipped

[00:03:24.450]'Cause the chancellor still does not have winter gear yet.
[00:03:27.390]So if any listeners know where a big guy like me,
[00:03:31.260]six-foot, four guy, well over 250 pounds,
[00:03:34.950]might go to get some big and tall winter gear,
[00:03:38.790]make sure the chancellor is aware and layered up
[00:03:41.400]for the winter that is coming right down the line.
