[00:00:09.258]potatoes with a small tractor and picking
[00:00:11.715]the potatoes by hand. Extension Plant Pathologist
[00:00:15.025]Research Technician Allison Rickey, said
[00:00:17.540]this year’s potatoes were Lamokas, a comparable
[00:00:20.590]variety to the Atlantics they usually plant.
[00:00:23.033]She explained more on the study.
[00:00:26.706]Umm, it’s a little bit bigger, like for our trial,
[00:00:30.552]than we normally have. We have 44 plots,
[00:00:33.657]umm, so we’re taking a single row of
[00:00:35.949]harvest like we usually do, and it
[00:00:39.060]just isn't quite coming up to yield. But
[00:00:43.023]that’s kind of to be expected with the
[00:00:45.253]hail and weather we had this summer.
[00:00:47.285]The fungicide trail is testing out different
[00:00:49.818]fungicides for efficiency and application timings.
[00:00:53.391]Our department does a lot of this by hand
[00:00:56.071]just because we have to be visually
[00:00:58.257]looking at each of the tubers. And so
[00:01:01.366]this gives us an opportunity to, umm, look
[00:01:04.661]around and make sure that we’re not missing
[00:01:07.011]any disease notifications for the companies to note.
[00:01:10.821]While the potatoes in the field plots will
[00:01:12.661]be used for the study. The variety is also
[00:01:15.312]known as chipping potatoes, which end up
[00:01:17.434]in potato chip bags at grocery stores
[00:01:19.997]across the nation.
