- [00:00:00.000](gentle guitar music)
- [00:00:04.140]Hi, my name's Matt Price
- [00:00:05.760]and I'm one of the coordinators
- [00:00:07.140]for the Intern Foundry program.
- [00:00:09.420]I would like to thank you all for supporting
- [00:00:11.280]this wonderful program that gives students an opportunity
- [00:00:14.520]to work with purpose-driven organizations
- [00:00:17.220]right here in Nebraska.
- [00:00:19.200]The Intern Foundry program
- [00:00:20.610]offers a uniquely Nebraskan experience
- [00:00:23.490]to high achieving university students.
- [00:00:25.830]I am proud to support this experience
- [00:00:28.260]in my role as a program coordinator.
- [00:00:31.680]As an intern last year with NeighborWorks Lincoln,
- [00:00:34.650]my work with this affordable housing nonprofit
- [00:00:37.560]centered around logic models, a way to organize
- [00:00:40.770]and review information for organizations.
- [00:00:43.890]Through my internship, I gained valuable knowledge
- [00:00:46.770]about a purpose-driven organization
- [00:00:48.690]that I could not have received
- [00:00:50.040]through classroom instruction alone.
- [00:00:52.500]I spoke with the NeighborWorks board
- [00:00:54.180]presenting my work in a professional setting.
- [00:00:56.820]I needed a challenging experience
- [00:00:58.860]to expand my abilities and the Intern Foundry program
- [00:01:02.400]was a perfect fit.
- [00:01:03.780]Now, I serve as a co-coordinator
- [00:01:06.360]and am excited to help create experiential
- [00:01:08.797]learning opportunities for students.
- [00:01:11.130]Students in the program are presented with projects
- [00:01:14.190]that foster critical thinking and creativity.
- [00:01:17.490]They can see how their work positively
- [00:01:19.500]impacts the Lincoln and Nebraska communities.
- [00:01:22.830]I am honored to work alongside such high caliber students
- [00:01:26.070]and purpose-driven organizations.
- [00:01:28.410]I'm hoping to lay the foundation
- [00:01:30.060]for future cohorts to succeed
- [00:01:32.130]and I'm grateful to have this opportunity.
- [00:01:34.620]I want to thank the Honors program
- [00:01:36.510]for their tireless support of this program
- [00:01:39.000]being a vital partner in getting students engaged
- [00:01:41.850]with the work the Foundry community is doing.
- [00:01:44.730]Thank you.
- [00:01:46.770]What I love about the Intern Foundry program,
- [00:01:50.670]are three pieces.
- [00:01:52.440]First of all, this program was created to be purpose driven.
- [00:01:56.730]So all of the organizations,
- [00:01:58.380]all of the projects are really driven
- [00:02:01.530]by creating meaning for the students
- [00:02:03.990]and also impacting the community
- [00:02:05.661]and that makes it really unique.
- [00:02:07.620]The second reason I love this program
- [00:02:09.870]is that it is project management based.
- [00:02:12.360]The students take a course that preloads the internship.
- [00:02:17.430]They set up clear deliverables,
- [00:02:18.870]so they're learning lots of skills
- [00:02:20.970]that are transferable no matter their occupation.
- [00:02:23.910]But finally, this is a program that is high quality.
- [00:02:27.210]It is not your typical internship
- [00:02:30.180]and that there are lots of different pieces.
- [00:02:32.280]It's quite comprehensive
- [00:02:33.660]between the course, the mentorship that's expected
- [00:02:36.960]the internship being purpose driven and project management.
- [00:02:40.980]And so the high quality experience
- [00:02:42.780]that we provide for the organizations
- [00:02:45.120]involved in the students are what I love.
- [00:02:46.690](gentle guitar music)
- [00:02:48.720]Hello, I am Drew Baldridge
- [00:02:50.790]and I am a senior in the Honors program,
- [00:02:53.520]and I'm pursuing a degree
- [00:02:55.050]in advertising and public relations.
- [00:02:57.420]And I wanted to share a little bit about my experience
- [00:03:00.390]with the Intern Foundry program.
- [00:03:02.520]So growing up I always had profound appreciation
- [00:03:05.910]for the arts and they played such a pivotal role
- [00:03:08.670]in making me who I am today.
- [00:03:11.130]However, when I got into college
- [00:03:12.840]I kind of got disconnected from that part of my identity.
- [00:03:16.260]So I was thrilled when I was paired
- [00:03:19.110]with the Lincoln Arts Council
- [00:03:20.670]through the Intern Foundry program
- [00:03:23.040]because they have a mission of providing arts accessibility
- [00:03:27.240]for marginalized communities throughout Lincoln.
- [00:03:30.360]So I was so thrilled to be a part
- [00:03:33.000]of supporting this mission
- [00:03:35.190]and my role was to help organize the Lincoln Arts Festival.
- [00:03:40.800]So I got to arrange our creative zones
- [00:03:43.890]which are interactive components of the festival
- [00:03:47.520]in which people got to experience new forms of art
- [00:03:50.933]and engage with them
- [00:03:54.120]in ways that they have never done before.
- [00:03:57.150]So it was very fulfilling
- [00:03:58.770]to be able to see thousands of people
- [00:04:01.740]learning about new art forms and getting to try new things
- [00:04:05.550]and developing a more profound appreciation for the arts.
- [00:04:08.994](gentle guitar music)
- [00:04:11.340]Hi, my name is Troy Gagner.
- [00:04:12.810]I'm the executive director of the Lincoln Arts Council
- [00:04:15.600]and without the F program, in all reality
- [00:04:19.680]we wouldn't have hired an intern last year.
- [00:04:23.070]Hiring process is difficult.
- [00:04:25.200]Finding interns is difficult
- [00:04:27.300]and really the F program made it easy on the organization.
- [00:04:31.290]And because of that, we were able to expand programming
- [00:04:34.860]at one of our major events
- [00:04:36.840]because we had the ability to give a project to an intern
- [00:04:40.890]to take the lead on and complete the project.
- [00:04:44.280]That intern was able to take ownership
- [00:04:45.900]of the entire thing and see it through from start to finish.
- [00:04:49.710]And you know, without the intern program,
- [00:04:52.680]like I said, that would've been a piece of this event
- [00:04:55.980]that probably just wouldn't have happened
- [00:04:57.690]or would've happened at a much smaller level.
- [00:05:01.530]Through my experience with the Intern Foundry
- [00:05:03.810]I was able to engage with a lot of the competencies
- [00:05:07.320]of the Honors program.
- [00:05:08.850]One of the biggest ones I was able to grow
- [00:05:11.010]in was communication.
- [00:05:13.140]I was able to develop a stronger communication style
- [00:05:16.320]for myself and how I engage with coworkers
- [00:05:20.670]as well as other people throughout the community.
- [00:05:23.670]I was able to connect with artists
- [00:05:26.220]and learn more about them
- [00:05:27.900]and develop a stronger sense of community.
- [00:05:31.980]Through this experience,
- [00:05:33.510]I was also able to connect with the honors competency
- [00:05:37.320]of transferable skills.
- [00:05:39.660]I was able to apply a lot of my coursework
- [00:05:42.270]through the Honors program,
- [00:05:44.310]as well as through my degree
- [00:05:46.080]in advertising to really connect with people
- [00:05:49.470]that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.
- [00:05:52.200]And I was also able to engage
- [00:05:54.390]in some problem solving
- [00:05:55.590]getting to overcome obstacles thrown at us
- [00:05:59.070]and just learn and develop a love of lifelong learning.
- [00:06:03.960]And I wouldn't have had this experience
- [00:06:06.030]were it not for the Honors program.
- [00:06:07.890]So I'm deeply appreciative
- [00:06:10.050]for all that the Honors program and the Intern Foundry too.
- [00:06:14.274](gentle guitar music)
- [00:06:16.770]Hi, I am Carolina Barraza.
- [00:06:18.420]I am an intern for Intern Boundary
- [00:06:20.730]and I was matched with Launch Leadership.
- [00:06:23.160]Launch Leadership is a nonprofit organization
- [00:06:26.040]that provides leadership activities
- [00:06:28.440]for students that is based out
- [00:06:30.120]of a camp that they host in Create Nebraska
- [00:06:33.150]and they are also not offering one day services.
- [00:06:36.420]So my role as an intern with Launch Leadership
- [00:06:40.050]has been to help them with their marketing
- [00:06:42.120]and then also with some fundraising for Give to Lincoln Day.
- [00:06:45.690]Through my experience,
- [00:06:46.890]I've learned a lot of leadership skills
- [00:06:49.800]because we are a pretty small team
- [00:06:52.200]so I've gained a lot of experience
- [00:06:54.180]on taking charge on projects,
- [00:06:57.277]being able to work well with a group setting,
- [00:07:00.330]but then also be able to go off on my own
- [00:07:02.580]and really execute what I need to do
- [00:07:04.650]in a certain amount of time.
- [00:07:06.750]The secret sauce of the Intern Foundry program
- [00:07:09.990]is really that strong partnership and relationship
- [00:07:13.020]between new and all honors and the Foundry.
- [00:07:16.590]That partnership makes the program seamless,
- [00:07:20.640]high quality and really focused on both student learning
- [00:07:24.960]and community impact.
- [00:07:26.940]I'm really grateful for that relationship.
