- [00:00:03.960]Okay, we are gonna start wrapping up.
- [00:00:07.650]So if I could have everyone's attention,
- [00:00:09.360]can you guys still hear me okay?
- [00:00:11.430]Okay, perfect.
- [00:00:13.020]Alright, so the NECPA is always looking to grow
- [00:00:16.620]our advisory board.
- [00:00:18.870]So we're gonna hear from a couple of our NECPA members
- [00:00:22.080]who also sit on the advisory board.
- [00:00:24.150]So if Alaina Smith and Andreea Baker could come up please,
- [00:00:27.720]we could all welcome 'em up.
- [00:00:30.256](audience applauding)
- [00:00:34.650]So yeah, so like I said,
- [00:00:36.628]we're always looking to grow our advisory board,
- [00:00:38.130]and so we would just like to hear from you two
- [00:00:40.800]on what your experience has been working with NECPA,
- [00:00:44.160]and being on the advisory board.
- [00:00:46.410]If you could just start with maybe answering
- [00:00:48.540]why you chose to join the board?
- [00:00:52.320]I think Megan made me, no? (audience laughing)
- [00:00:55.233]Well, actually... Probably.
- [00:00:56.280]Let's actually...
- [00:00:58.470]Maybe for everyone that they don't,
- [00:01:01.418]maybe they don't know you, so maybe introduce yourselves
- [00:01:02.730]first, yeah. Okay.
- [00:01:04.687]Alaina Smith, Bellevue University.
- [00:01:07.067]We each got our 10 year today, which is crazy,
- [00:01:10.110]making me feel very old, and you know, time flies,
- [00:01:16.110]'cause we're having so much fun.
- [00:01:18.666]And actually, I was just in the session
- [00:01:19.710]on like building competencies for prevention people,
- [00:01:24.360]and I do have to say,
- [00:01:25.777]"My name's Alaina, I'm a preventionist,"
- [00:01:27.780]thanks to my membership and involvement with this group.
- [00:01:32.010]So if you are new and you are starting out,
- [00:01:33.660]you will get there.
- [00:01:35.702]And I would say definitely use all of the resources
- [00:01:38.460]that you have available to you and the experts on the team
- [00:01:41.490]to continue down that path of building up on those skills.
- [00:01:47.580]Hi, I'm Andreea Baker.
- [00:01:48.960]I'm the Director of Health and Wellness at Doane University.
- [00:01:52.380]I've been there all of two months, thank you.
- [00:01:54.750]But I've been in higher ed for 10 years.
- [00:01:58.170]So I got started with the NEPCA,
- [00:02:04.379]I think it was at a statewide convening, or in a fall...
- [00:02:08.010]I always say BC, before COVID, so sometime,
- [00:02:12.371]and we were needing representation
- [00:02:13.204]for starting this advisory board,
- [00:02:15.360]and I just wanted to get involved,
- [00:02:18.120]because prevention was something I was passionate about.
- [00:02:20.700]Even though I'm a nurse by trade,
- [00:02:22.590]prevention is different, right?
- [00:02:24.810]So in healthcare, you're like, "Yes, diet, exercise,
- [00:02:28.530]all of those things will prevent you
- [00:02:30.990]from getting X, Y, Z disease."
- [00:02:34.830]But I have found that this type of prevention work
- [00:02:38.130]with the demographic we're working with
- [00:02:40.620]is so important.
- [00:02:42.090]So having the NEPCA as a resource for me,
- [00:02:46.680]I know I can reach out to my colleagues
- [00:02:48.420]at other institutions and say, "Hey, what are you doing?
- [00:02:51.390]What's working for you?"
- [00:02:53.340]I know I've tapped into Megan, I'm like,
- [00:02:56.113]"Megan, we need training on this.
- [00:02:57.000]Can you help me?"
- [00:02:58.650]'Cause I know, well, I'll just use an example, MI training.
- [00:03:02.729]I had a colleague come to me and say,
- [00:03:04.568]"I need to have training with my mentors
- [00:03:07.980]to have conversations about alcohol, or cannabis, or,"
- [00:03:13.140]and as we were talking, I was like, "That's MI training,
- [00:03:16.260]like that's what you're wanting for your mentors,"
- [00:03:19.331]and I said, "I will reach out."
- [00:03:21.434]And so Nate's coming to do MI training with our mentors,
- [00:03:24.960]and I was like, that's that connection piece
- [00:03:27.540]that I knew I could reach out to the alliance to get that.
- [00:03:30.270]So long story short, I like to be involved is why I joined.
- [00:03:34.410]But it's been such a helpful resource for us.
- [00:03:38.070]So Megan's great, her team, MeLissa,
- [00:03:40.650]I've emailed many times about Y1.
- [00:03:42.870]Sorry, we're just changing things.
- [00:03:45.240]And Antoinette too, so.
- [00:03:49.230]Yes, well, thank you so much for that.
- [00:03:51.120]You kind of touched on it on the networking opportunities
- [00:03:53.970]that the NECPA membership has provided you,
- [00:03:56.610]but if you could speak a little bit more
- [00:03:58.440]about how being on the advisory board,
- [00:04:00.690]what the time commitment has been,
- [00:04:03.210]and other opportunities that has brought you?
- [00:04:06.120]It's not overwhelming.
- [00:04:08.484]If you are looking to get more involved,
- [00:04:09.570]or network with other campuses,
- [00:04:12.900]or learn more from campuses
- [00:04:14.670]of the diversity that we have across the state.
- [00:04:17.880]That's one thing that I've appreciated, and think,
- [00:04:20.760]we have regular meetings,
- [00:04:22.320]there isn't a lot of outside work or homework,
- [00:04:24.690]but it's an opportunity to provide representation
- [00:04:27.780]for your type of institution, your institution itself,
- [00:04:31.020]your interests and your needs,
- [00:04:32.550]as well as others similar to you.
- [00:04:36.420]Yes, I would just echo that.
- [00:04:37.860]It's not been an extra workload for me
- [00:04:41.850]to be on the advisory board,
- [00:04:44.490]but it has provided that networking opportunity
- [00:04:46.950]just to collaborate with other individuals
- [00:04:49.770]from across the state, because all the regions
- [00:04:51.960]are represented on the advisory board,
- [00:04:54.503]and we all have similar challenges, but also unique needs
- [00:04:57.810]depending on where we are at in the state.
- [00:05:00.796]So it's been a great opportunity to learn more about
- [00:05:02.940]what others are seeing across the state.
- [00:05:05.520]Yeah, and why would you encourage others
- [00:05:07.830]to join the advisory board?
- [00:05:10.590]I think gaining the exposure to others,
- [00:05:12.870]hearing their stories, what's different on their campuses,
- [00:05:15.750]or what's similar to yours, it both validates
- [00:05:18.150]and inspires you in the work that you're doing,
- [00:05:20.280]as well as being able to just grow and develop more.
- [00:05:27.510]Those, and we're a fun bunch, that's why.
- [00:05:30.960]No, I would echo all of those things.
- [00:05:33.510]Being on the advisory board has taught me a lot.
- [00:05:36.482]It's given me a lot of professional growth opportunities
- [00:05:38.490]that I wouldn't have had otherwise,
- [00:05:40.170]and so I've appreciated that time to network, learn, grow,
- [00:05:45.480]especially in this new role that most of my focus now
- [00:05:49.020]is on prevention and education.
- [00:05:51.150]I know I will lean much more heavily
- [00:05:54.468]on my prevention colleagues, 'cause this is fun and new,
- [00:05:57.570]but also there'll be challenges and learning experiences
- [00:06:00.480]that come with that, so it's great to have colleagues
- [00:06:02.970]that I can lean on.
- [00:06:05.160]Yes, thank you both so much.
- [00:06:07.470]Was there any other questions that anyone in the audience
- [00:06:10.530]maybe had for Alaina and Andreea?
- [00:06:15.870]All right, well, thank you both for being here.
- [00:06:18.690]Thank you for being on the board.
- [00:06:21.048]We greatly appreciate it,
- [00:06:21.881]and we appreciate all the work that you do
- [00:06:24.119]for the NECPA.
- [00:06:25.606](audience applauding)
- [00:06:31.020]All right, yes, thank you, everybody,
- [00:06:33.725]for your service and for volunteering.
- [00:06:37.170]So I wanted to talk a little bit about
- [00:06:39.180]our exemplary member recognition program.
- [00:06:41.220]This is something that we launched back at the end of 2022.
- [00:06:44.970]There's three levels currently within the program,
- [00:06:48.090]bronze, silver, and gold,
- [00:06:49.980]and each of them have various requirements
- [00:06:52.110]that are listed on our website,
- [00:06:53.310]I didn't wanna go through them all today.
- [00:06:55.440]But we have several institutions
- [00:06:57.390]that have achieved these levels.
- [00:06:58.890]As you can see, we have many, many members that got to gold,
- [00:07:03.120]because we have many people
- [00:07:04.860]that are doing a lot of high quality work
- [00:07:05.730]and putting forth a lot of effort
- [00:07:08.280]in their prevention programming.
- [00:07:10.669]But the purpose of this wasn't only
- [00:07:12.779]to recognize the hard work,
- [00:07:13.860]but it's also to challenge you to implement
- [00:07:17.190]some more stretch goals into your prevention programming.
- [00:07:20.610]So coming in 2024 with the next iteration of NACHB,
- [00:07:24.540]we're planning to add two different levels,
- [00:07:27.030]two additional levels
- [00:07:29.108]to the exemplary member recognition program.
- [00:07:30.990]The platinum level is based on data excellence,
- [00:07:33.810]and so a member that qualifies for the gold level
- [00:07:36.960]and then participates in all three
- [00:07:38.880]of the NECPA data collection and programming initiatives,
- [00:07:42.882]Y1CBP, CBP, and NACHB,
- [00:07:45.720]to use the data that they collect on campus
- [00:07:48.873]to drive their evidence-based prevention strategies
- [00:07:52.033]will be able to achieve that platinum level
- [00:07:53.610]by participating in all three of those programs.
- [00:07:57.150]The highest level then would be the diamond level,
- [00:08:00.210]and that would be somebody that checks
- [00:08:02.520]every single box in those.
- [00:08:04.980]And so we do currently have one member
- [00:08:07.410]who would qualify for the diamond level
- [00:08:09.867]if they participate in NACHB coming in 2024.
- [00:08:12.596]So only one, and I'm not gonna say who it is. (laughs)
- [00:08:15.630]You'll find out, but if you wanna join
- [00:08:17.940]that prestigious group,
- [00:08:21.180]then I encourage you to do what you can
- [00:08:22.950]to make sure that you're checking all of these boxes.
- [00:08:25.860]So something exciting coming,
- [00:08:28.230]and we hope that you guys are able to use your badges
- [00:08:33.330]and their levels that you have achieved
- [00:08:35.640]to start conversations on your campus
- [00:08:38.130]and to draw attention to the work that you're doing.
- [00:08:41.619]And is Luz in the room?
- [00:08:43.140]Oh, okay, yes.
- [00:08:44.310]So we did have one other challenge coin
- [00:08:47.157]to give out this morning, a new member.
- [00:08:48.801]This was something that I didn't get a chance to do
- [00:08:51.240]this morning, so I wanted to make sure that we did recognize
- [00:08:54.540]Central Community College as a new member.
- [00:08:58.867](audience applauding)
- [00:09:02.400]You're welcome.
- [00:09:03.930]All right.
- [00:09:05.365]And so we have the closing remarks from Megan.
- [00:09:09.090]Thank you.
- [00:09:11.520]All right, well, I promise I'll get you out on time,
- [00:09:14.767]because I know everyone's anxious to get on the road
- [00:09:15.900]if you are traveling out.
- [00:09:18.240]But today went fast, right?
- [00:09:19.830]It did for me, 'cause this great stuff here. (laughs)
- [00:09:23.460]So again, thank you to MeLissa and Antoinette,
- [00:09:25.650]and to Hailey, appreciate all your hard work for today.
- [00:09:28.560]Everything went pretty smoothly, no major tech challenges,
- [00:09:31.650]so that's always a blessing, right?
- [00:09:34.050]I want to thank you all for taking the time out of your day
- [00:09:36.390]to both attend and learn more about
- [00:09:38.610]these areas in prevention,
- [00:09:39.930]but also to share your expertise,
- [00:09:42.000]to help network with each other across the state.
- [00:09:45.292]That really is one of the goals for us in the NECPA
- [00:09:47.460]is to allow networking opportunities
- [00:09:49.980]for those of you working in this area.
- [00:09:52.350]I know I got the opportunities to meet some new faces
- [00:09:55.260]and make some connections to follow up on,
- [00:09:57.120]and so I hope you all did as well.
- [00:10:00.030]I also want to thank our sponsors.
- [00:10:01.950]So the Nebraska Department of Transportation
- [00:10:04.350]and Highway Safety Office
- [00:10:06.482]is who financially supports this statewide convening
- [00:10:09.030]in terms of costs of your food today, mileage and travel,
- [00:10:14.220]our speakers that we bring in and their honorariums.
- [00:10:17.714]So I want to be sure to thank them
- [00:10:18.547]for their continued support.
- [00:10:20.400]And then also the Department of Health and Human Services
- [00:10:23.130]Behavioral Healthcare,
- [00:10:24.900]and Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare also provide
- [00:10:28.500]not direct financial support to us,
- [00:10:30.420]but obviously as sponsors to our programs,
- [00:10:33.240]help contribute to the work that we do all year round,
- [00:10:35.640]so I wanted to be sure to thank them.
- [00:10:38.400]Also wanted to let you all know that next year,
- [00:10:41.010]we do plan to have some sponsor opportunities
- [00:10:44.490]in our booklet.
- [00:10:45.750]I know a couple folks commented
- [00:10:47.460]on how nice that booklet was.
- [00:10:49.790]Definitely an upgrade for us from our previous years,
- [00:10:52.140]thanks to MeLissa.
- [00:10:53.490]And so next year, we'll also be offering the opportunity
- [00:10:56.520]to buy ad space in that
- [00:10:58.410]to help sponsor the statewide convening.
- [00:11:01.740]And so I invite you all to take advantage of that as well.
- [00:11:05.550]I think that we had some great information shared today.
- [00:11:09.770]I hope you all walk away with more information
- [00:11:11.640]about things you already knew about,
- [00:11:13.320]and hopefully some new information as well.
- [00:11:16.380]Between Delta-8 and cannabis conversations,
- [00:11:19.800]counseling skills, social norms campaigns.
- [00:11:23.070]We spent some time focusing on data collection
- [00:11:25.590]and use of data, and then some professional development
- [00:11:28.830]for folks working in prevention.
- [00:11:31.320]I think it was good for me to hear again from Jason
- [00:11:34.590]that we continue to be on the right track
- [00:11:36.750]in terms of the programming that we have available
- [00:11:39.000]to our statewide members.
- [00:11:40.950]And now our next challenge is to work on that delivery
- [00:11:43.890]of those programmings and implementation.
- [00:11:47.008]So just as a reminder,
- [00:11:48.090]some of the things available to you all as NECPA members
- [00:11:51.720]at no cost to you are those ongoing basics trainings,
- [00:11:56.340]the College Behavior Profile
- [00:11:57.960]and Year One College Behavior Profile,
- [00:12:00.690]the Power of Parenting websites,
- [00:12:02.730]and parent handbooks from Rob Terese
- [00:12:05.400]that we talked about when we were with Jason this morning.
- [00:12:09.150]Social norms campaigns,
- [00:12:11.310]both in terms of being able to access statewide campaigns
- [00:12:14.520]that we help develop and implement,
- [00:12:17.112]but also through funding to help you
- [00:12:19.410]get your own campus campaigns off the ground.
- [00:12:22.560]And then I think it's important as we look forward
- [00:12:24.930]and look at selecting strategies from the NIAAA matrix
- [00:12:27.900]to again remember that foundation that the NECPA is built on
- [00:12:32.010]in terms of looking at policy, education, and enforcement,
- [00:12:35.370]and all of the work that we do
- [00:12:36.690]for the students and the campuses that we're on.
- [00:12:39.930]We'll also continue to look to expand our efforts.
- [00:12:43.230]I think it was 2019, just before the pandemic began,
- [00:12:46.080]that we had a statewide convening like this,
- [00:12:48.810]and dedicated a lot of time to strategic planning,
- [00:12:51.450]and decided to push past our sole focus
- [00:12:54.390]on high risk drinking at the time,
- [00:12:57.180]which is why we were rebirthed as the NECPA,
- [00:13:00.300]and really look at marijuana use
- [00:13:02.340]and what was happening in our state around that.
- [00:13:04.260]But also in recent years, really expanding our focus
- [00:13:07.810]to talk about mental health, right?
- [00:13:08.643]Because as Jason said, all of this work is mental health.
- [00:13:12.030]And I think as we continue to come out of the pandemic,
- [00:13:14.820]we see how much of a toll a lot of students
- [00:13:18.150]have experienced from the pandemic,
- [00:13:19.890]and the things they're struggling with to come out of it
- [00:13:21.870]and return to normal.
- [00:13:23.990]And so the work that we do is just as important,
- [00:13:25.410]if not more so than before the pandemic began,
- [00:13:28.230]so I look forward to working on that with all of you.
- [00:13:32.577]I also wanted to reiterate Jason's point
- [00:13:36.090]about the importance of terminology, right?
- [00:13:38.220]I was glad to hear that.
- [00:13:39.053]I know MeLissa and Antoinette and I
- [00:13:41.400]have spent the last couple months
- [00:13:43.562]talking about the way we talk about the work we do.
- [00:13:45.570]We had the opportunity from Region 6 to work with Sean Good,
- [00:13:49.500]who provided some consultation with us
- [00:13:51.450]about sustainability for our efforts.
- [00:13:54.360]And it was very interesting that
- [00:13:56.040]in one of our first sessions with him,
- [00:13:57.720]he kind of asked us to tell us
- [00:13:59.910]how we explain to others what we do.
- [00:14:02.190]And I don't know about you all,
- [00:14:04.230]but this is my least favorite question,
- [00:14:05.850]because I feel like no matter what setting I'm in,
- [00:14:08.940]could be professionally or personally,
- [00:14:11.413]when I tell people that I work in alcohol
- [00:14:12.870]and other drug prevention,
- [00:14:14.893]it's like I'm automatically the Debbie Downer, right?
- [00:14:17.917]"Oh, I can't drink around you," or, you know,
- [00:14:20.430]like those types of reactions.
- [00:14:21.990]It feels very not fun to talk about, right?
- [00:14:25.741]And I know that the work that I do is valuable,
- [00:14:27.000]and important, and affects students' success and wellbeing,
- [00:14:30.870]but it's hard to know how to articulate that, right?
- [00:14:33.960]And MeLissa and Antoinette had very similar experiences
- [00:14:37.890]in the way they talk about the work that they do.
- [00:14:40.200]And I imagine it's true for a lot of you as well
- [00:14:42.740]in your campus roles, and also personally.
- [00:14:45.939]And so he really did a great job
- [00:14:47.430]with helping us work through how we talk about that.
- [00:14:50.010]And so we are going to be taking an active step
- [00:14:53.220]in the next year in the NECPA,
- [00:14:54.720]and really reshaping the way we talk about what we do.
- [00:14:58.219]And so it's really important that you all
- [00:14:59.340]as our partners across the state
- [00:15:00.630]are a part of that process,
- [00:15:02.769]and that we're using shared language
- [00:15:03.810]and how we talk about that.
- [00:15:05.700]And so for us, what we have started to move towards
- [00:15:08.250]when someone asks us, "What's the NECPA,"
- [00:15:11.035]or, "What does that do,"
- [00:15:12.705]we talk about the fact that we organize and equip
- [00:15:14.280]partner organizations to support student wholeness
- [00:15:18.120]so they get to graduation ready to thrive.
- [00:15:21.300]Sounds a lot funner, right?
- [00:15:23.670]Sounds a lot more empowering, right?
- [00:15:27.300]So that's one thing that I will encourage you all
- [00:15:29.910]to look at leaving today
- [00:15:31.530]is how you talk about the work you do.
- [00:15:33.270]Because yes, you may be your campus's
- [00:15:35.520]AOD prevention personnel,
- [00:15:37.830]but your goal is to help students get to graduation healthy,
- [00:15:40.980]well, and ready to thrive, right?
- [00:15:42.750]You see it, you saw it in your booklets today,
- [00:15:45.060]you saw it at the opening slide.
- [00:15:46.980]That's really where we're working towards.
- [00:15:48.690]And so we're really thinking about student wellness,
- [00:15:50.460]and leading with that,
- [00:15:51.750]and then we can talk about how do we do that,
- [00:15:53.940]and what does that look like on campuses.
- [00:15:56.810]So that's my kind of call to action for you all
- [00:15:58.530]as you return today.
- [00:16:00.540]My predecessor, Dr. Ian Newman, always liked to do
- [00:16:03.614]a good call to action at the end of our convenings,
- [00:16:05.280]and I think of him often in the work that we do.
- [00:16:08.910]And so that is my call to action
- [00:16:10.800]for you to reshape the way you talk about the work
- [00:16:12.960]that not only you do on your campus,
- [00:16:15.357]but that we do as a collective,
- [00:16:16.190]and we'll continue to support you all in those efforts.
- [00:16:19.830]I wanted to just give a quick update
- [00:16:21.630]on where we're at funding wise, right,
- [00:16:24.051]'cause that's always the important part, right?
- [00:16:26.722]It's what keeps us able to do what we're doing.
- [00:16:28.080]And we've shared with some folks
- [00:16:29.910]that this year looked like it might be a crisis year
- [00:16:32.520]for the NECPA.
- [00:16:34.335]We have several grants that are coming to an end.
- [00:16:36.900]Our American Rescue Plan grant ended in May.
- [00:16:41.160]That was a grant that brought MeLissa on,
- [00:16:42.960]and also provided over $100,000 in mini grant funding
- [00:16:46.320]to your campuses.
- [00:16:47.880]We are pleased to report that we found out a month ago
- [00:16:52.200]that turns out,
- [00:16:53.033]there's another half a million dollars earmarked for us.
- [00:16:56.531](audience applauding)
- [00:16:58.830]So as much as that is our success, that is your success.
- [00:17:02.010]It speaks to the work that you all do
- [00:17:04.050]of high quality on your campuses,
- [00:17:05.700]that our sponsors see that,
- [00:17:07.320]recognize the importance of the work that you're doing.
- [00:17:09.990]So we have submitted an application for that.
- [00:17:12.300]We don't have a for sure, for sure, but it's a pretty likely
- [00:17:15.930]that that will be refunded and carry us through 2026, right?
- [00:17:20.940]May, 2025, so starting in October of this year.
- [00:17:24.660]And so once we have confirmation about that,
- [00:17:27.030]we'll let you know.
- [00:17:28.587]We hope to be able to reauthorize that mini grant funding.
- [00:17:31.320]So I hope that today's matrix conversation
- [00:17:33.960]was really helpful for you all as you look at
- [00:17:36.744]how you might be able to utilize that future funding
- [00:17:38.790]in a strategic way on your campus.
- [00:17:42.300]We also do know that we will be receiving
- [00:17:44.280]another year of funding from Highway Safety Office.
- [00:17:47.400]We don't yet know our full award amount,
- [00:17:50.244]but we do know that we'll be awarded at some level.
- [00:17:52.560]The Omaha Collegiate Consortium
- [00:17:54.120]under Antoinette's leadership has also received funding
- [00:17:57.210]under the state block grant for the next year.
- [00:17:59.790]So that funding just started this month,
- [00:18:01.440]and will carry us through next June.
- [00:18:04.039]And then our big grant project for this year
- [00:18:06.000]was the Partnership for Success grant.
- [00:18:08.520]And so we've had this grant through the OCC
- [00:18:10.830]and through the state for probably 10 years now.
- [00:18:13.620]And that cycle of funding was coming to a complete end.
- [00:18:17.130]There was no more renewals.
- [00:18:18.450]And so SAMHSA has really restructured
- [00:18:20.340]the way that they are receiving applications for that.
- [00:18:24.660]So now, rather than awarding states,
- [00:18:27.240]and then states awarding sub-grantees,
- [00:18:29.580]we were an organization that submitted
- [00:18:31.890]for one of 44 national community-level grants.
- [00:18:36.270]If awarded, we would have funding
- [00:18:38.370]for the next five consecutive years.
- [00:18:40.830]So it was a very large undertaking.
- [00:18:43.740]It took a lot of work for the NECPA staff,
- [00:18:46.170]as well as our supports here at UNL.
- [00:18:49.560]We submitted that in June,
- [00:18:50.880]and are hopeful to possibly be a recipient of that.
- [00:18:54.000]And as soon as we hear back, we will be sure to share
- [00:18:56.580]hopefully the good news about that.
- [00:18:59.130]But I just say that to speak to
- [00:19:01.530]the importance of the work that we do,
- [00:19:03.210]the fact that we work hard to continue to be able to fund
- [00:19:06.358]not just our organization,
- [00:19:07.620]but you all through the work that we do as well,
- [00:19:09.570]and the benefits that it provides to you.
- [00:19:12.355]And so the work that you all do as partners
- [00:19:14.040]in our state organization is really critical to that.
- [00:19:16.560]It means we have to have a strong base
- [00:19:18.150]to be able to go to a sponsor and say,
- [00:19:20.376]"Hey, we're worth funding."
- [00:19:21.859]And so I really thank you all again
- [00:19:23.724]for the hard work that you do all year long
- [00:19:24.690]that makes it possible for us to submit
- [00:19:26.670]applications for sustainability.
- [00:19:30.510]Lastly, to close up, just a few events coming up
- [00:19:33.180]to keep you all aware of.
- [00:19:35.106]If you are a school
- [00:19:36.207]with a Year One College Behavior Profile,
- [00:19:37.410]you are in the midst of implementation.
- [00:19:40.020]And if you run into any challenges with that,
- [00:19:42.570]please reach out to our staff,
- [00:19:43.860]we're happy to help you with that.
- [00:19:45.690]Be sure you get your data sent to us
- [00:19:48.030]as soon as your program closes.
- [00:19:49.560]We do still operate on a first come, first serve basis
- [00:19:52.440]for data evaluation.
- [00:19:54.540]We have met with MERC,
- [00:19:56.449]and we do expect to get you your snapshot reports
- [00:19:57.900]within the first six to eight weeks
- [00:19:59.460]of the semester this year.
- [00:20:01.260]And then we'll get you your longitudinal reports after that.
- [00:20:04.260]If you're not a school that has a Year One CBP,
- [00:20:06.300]or you're like, "What the heck is she talking about,"
- [00:20:08.190]reach out to us after today,
- [00:20:09.510]we'd be happy to get you set up with the program.
- [00:20:11.820]Same thing for our College Behavior Profile.
- [00:20:13.980]We do still have funding to support
- [00:20:15.930]new builds for those programs,
- [00:20:17.490]and are happy to walk you through that process.
- [00:20:21.900]We will be hopefully implementing
- [00:20:24.180]the 2024 Nebraska Assessment
- [00:20:26.340]of College Health Behavior survey.
- [00:20:28.260]This would be the third iteration of the NACHB.
- [00:20:31.170]I say hopefully because it's dependent on that funding.
- [00:20:35.220]I know you all don't know the cost of this,
- [00:20:37.560]because we cover it for you each cycle,
- [00:20:39.570]but to run the NACHB for 21 of our institutions
- [00:20:42.990]costs about $90,000.
- [00:20:46.020]So huge benefit to your institutions.
- [00:20:48.630]The survey is already drafted.
- [00:20:50.280]You're able to make customizations to it.
- [00:20:53.100]MERC, who is one of our partners at UNL,
- [00:20:55.800]gets everything loaded into Qualtrics for you.
- [00:20:58.320]You just have to send it out to students,
- [00:21:00.240]and then they complete all the data analysis and reporting,
- [00:21:02.790]and you are the owner of that report.
- [00:21:05.520]We don't share institution-level reports individually.
- [00:21:08.970]We do a state aggregate report, but we don't ever share
- [00:21:11.520]your institution-level data with anyone.
- [00:21:14.910]So if you have not participated in the past
- [00:21:17.400]and would like to join us for the 2024 iteration,
- [00:21:19.980]please let us know.
- [00:21:21.855]For those of you who have participated in the past,
- [00:21:23.760]be on the lookout from an email from me
- [00:21:25.350]in the next couple of weeks
- [00:21:27.691]that will cover the baseline report
- [00:21:28.830]and your steps for implementation in spring of 2024.
- [00:21:34.500]As I mentioned earlier today, we are working on a revamp
- [00:21:37.440]of our Power of Parenting website,
- [00:21:38.940]which will include not just information about alcohol,
- [00:21:41.580]but also cannabis and marijuana,
- [00:21:43.680]and also just kind of bring it into 2023.
- [00:21:47.040]It's about a 10 year old website,
- [00:21:48.540]and you know websites age faster than all of us.
- [00:21:51.120]So we are working on putting that into place as well.
- [00:21:55.470]And then as I mentioned too with Jason,
- [00:21:57.210]we will be scheduling a basics training with him
- [00:21:59.550]in September.
- [00:22:01.297]It will be a virtual training,
- [00:22:02.917]but it's open to all NECPA members.
- [00:22:04.200]It's open to anyone on your campus
- [00:22:05.670]that might benefit from motivational interviewing
- [00:22:08.760]or trainings.
- [00:22:10.384]Shout out to Andreea for bringing that up as a need
- [00:22:12.450]in terms of basics training moving forward.
- [00:22:15.229]We've had a lot of turnover on a lot of campuses,
- [00:22:17.303]and so a first experience for a lot of people,
- [00:22:19.470]but always a good opportunity
- [00:22:20.820]to sharpen those skills as well.
- [00:22:23.250]And then, as you probably noticed from our little
- [00:22:27.600]advisory board member interview this afternoon,
- [00:22:31.260]we are needing some new advisory board members.
- [00:22:33.990]Not to replace anyone, but just we've had some folks
- [00:22:37.110]leave their institutions
- [00:22:38.160]who were previously serving on the advisory board.
- [00:22:40.800]So if you are someone who's interested,
- [00:22:42.570]and feel called to be a larger part of that,
- [00:22:45.245]we would love to hear from you.
- [00:22:46.312]Shoot me an email, and we'd be happy to have you.
- [00:22:49.170]So lastly, and I'll try to give you
- [00:22:52.080]a five minutes back to your day,
- [00:22:53.880]I just wanted to make sure to also acknowledge
- [00:22:57.060]Midland University, which is here with us today,
- [00:22:59.730]up right in the front,
- [00:23:01.950]like the great students you all are.
- [00:23:04.650]And I just wanted to thank you all for your leadership.
- [00:23:08.040]And Christina, you in particular,
- [00:23:09.390]in bringing Midland on to the NECPA.
- [00:23:12.721]You all probably saw the announcement this spring
- [00:23:13.950]that we shared through our newsletter,
- [00:23:15.870]but Midland is the newest institution in the state to join.
- [00:23:20.883]And so we are so excited to have you
- [00:23:21.930]to make us a nice round 26 member institutions,
- [00:23:24.900]nearly every institution in the state.
- [00:23:26.700]And so I just wanted to thank you all again for joining us.
- [00:23:30.843](audience applauding)
- [00:23:33.420]So that's it for us today.
- [00:23:35.190]Like I said, I hope you all enjoyed the day,
- [00:23:37.050]and take away something back to your campuses.
- [00:23:40.200]And like I said, remember that call to action,
- [00:23:42.270]and really think think about how to reframe the work you do.
- [00:23:45.752]I promise it'll feel a lot better
- [00:23:46.710]when you can speak about it
- [00:23:47.790]in a positive, empowering manner.
- [00:23:50.040]So thank you so much.
