- [00:00:07.920]Project manager protege simply on the normal timeline
- [00:00:12.120]would shadow their PM through all of their team meetings.
- [00:00:16.080]We choose up to four to six teams,
- [00:00:17.520]depending on the sizes of the teams,
- [00:00:19.020]the size of the projects.
- [00:00:20.550]As for the actual duties of the job,
- [00:00:22.320]I went to all of the team meetings
- [00:00:24.870]and I went through all of their documentation
- [00:00:27.030]every single week.
- [00:00:27.900]I would write reports,
- [00:00:29.190]essentially going over all of their agile process.
- [00:00:32.100]And the agile process specifically
- [00:00:34.290]is just a way of development.
- [00:00:36.480]So sprinting is the main way of agile,
- [00:00:40.230]but I would go through every sprint,
- [00:00:41.370]going through all their slides, their videos,
- [00:00:43.320]their documentation, releases, so on, and so forth.
- [00:00:46.920]Guiding them and coaching them on how to better show
- [00:00:51.210]the work that they've done.
- [00:00:52.290]Because teams can do the work,
- [00:00:54.270]but translating it into formats
- [00:00:56.430]where somebody that's not as technically inclined
- [00:00:59.040]to interpret it as the client.
- [00:01:01.470]That's the big kinda gap.
- [00:01:03.030]And that's what where I come in,
- [00:01:04.380]is teach 'em how to talk to the client basically.
- [00:01:06.554](bright energetic music)
- [00:01:10.770]I'd say what I learned
- [00:01:12.150]this year as a project manager protege
- [00:01:14.520]versus being a project manager last year
- [00:01:17.400]for a single individual team
- [00:01:19.110]was how to manage multiple levels of industry or people,
- [00:01:24.360]which I'd say is a pretty important skill
- [00:01:26.640]if you're looking to scale up within a job market.
- [00:01:29.130]So I essentially went through
- [00:01:31.560]what you do in a normal industry.
- [00:01:33.000]Is upgrade from a developer to manager
- [00:01:35.100]and to even a higher-end manager,
- [00:01:37.290]which is managing whole entire teams at once.
- [00:01:40.777](bright energetic music)
- [00:01:43.286]I'd say go for it,
- [00:01:44.610]but just make sure you have good communication
- [00:01:48.240]with your cohort because that's actually probably one
- [00:01:51.000]of my favorite things about school computing,
- [00:01:52.650]specifically software engineering,
- [00:01:54.990]is working with my cohort.
- [00:01:57.060]And those guys
- [00:01:58.950]and girls were some of the greatest people
- [00:02:00.660]I've met so far in my schooling experience.
- [00:02:03.450]So they'll be with me for a long time.
