[00:00:23.725]So, we've had cheatgrass for a long time and there's been
[00:00:26.918]a lot of research on it and we still haven't been able to fully
[00:00:29.413]get ahead of it there's no silver bullet. He says there are ways to combat the grass
[00:00:33.881]Things like grazing could be a good option
[00:00:35.733]especially if you're able to get out early on it
[00:00:38.285]and utilize that as a forage resource. Now chances are
[00:00:41.255]there's still going to be enough seed produced every
[00:00:43.624]year with the grazing. Unless it's a very intensively managed system
[00:00:47.294]you're still going to have cheatgrass come up every
[00:00:50.110]year. And compete with your perennials, there are some
[00:00:53.614]herbicide options, some relatively new herbicide options
[00:00:56.555]that seem to have a little bit longer residual in the soil.
[00:01:00.321]So it keeps that cheatgrass from coming up.
[00:01:02.911]Stephenson says there are a number of herbicide treatments for cheatgrass
[00:01:06.950]Things like imazapic and then this product is indaziflan
[00:01:10.778]is the chemical and indaziflan has had quite
[00:01:15.021]a bit of research done throughout the western United States
[00:01:18.609]and now into the western Great Plains, looking at how effective it is. And
[00:01:22.661]it seems to be a herbicide that can last a little bit longer.
[00:01:28.002]Herbicides with longer lasting control will benefit a range,
[00:01:31.460]Stephenson said. Since the cheatgrass seed bank is fairly robust.
