- [00:00:03.360]So I love working with Husker Dialogues
- [00:00:05.490]because it's such a great opportunity
- [00:00:07.110]for our incoming freshmen to just be able to
- [00:00:09.780]really have good conversations
- [00:00:11.730]around all the changes that they may be experiencing.
- [00:00:15.030]Like some of 'em, this is the most diverse place
- [00:00:17.580]they've ever come to,
- [00:00:18.420]and some of them it's the least diverse,
- [00:00:20.070]and so everybody's having thoughts,
- [00:00:22.440]and Husker Dialogues gives us a great chance to
- [00:00:25.650]really just dive into having conversations around that.
- [00:00:29.790]And that's what I really enjoyed about being a guide
- [00:00:32.970]that we can provide those tools for them
- [00:00:35.940]to ease them into these conversations.
- [00:00:38.010]So, I'm really excited about that.
- [00:00:39.780]It's just kind of like you're sitting in a circle
- [00:00:42.000]and you're having a face-to-face conversation with everyone.
- [00:00:44.460]You don't feel very closed off.
- [00:00:45.990]You kind of have this big, I don't know,
- [00:00:47.910]kind of small setting within the bigger group setting,
- [00:00:50.130]so it feels a little bit more closer and intimate that way.
- [00:00:52.920]But just sit down and go through prompts
- [00:00:55.320]and kind of have conversations about things.
- [00:00:57.210]Oh, absolutely, and then the training
- [00:00:58.680]that you are provided in, and the resources,
- [00:01:01.710]and the tools, definitely benefit and just help
- [00:01:04.650]with easing that kind of concern that folks may have.
- [00:01:07.830]So everything's kind of laid out in a
- [00:01:09.930]way that's just, you kinda gotta show up (laughs) really so.
- [00:01:14.130]Yeah. Yeah.
- [00:01:15.090]And also there's staff on hand
- [00:01:16.980]if you get kind of a hot topic, or somebody maybe
- [00:01:21.360]has some responses that you don't
- [00:01:23.550]know quite how to handle, there's people
- [00:01:25.920]who are there to back you up.
- [00:01:27.420]I think it's also important if you're nervous,
- [00:01:30.030]it sounds a lot more intense than it is.
- [00:01:32.970]I think when you get there, like then it really does pay off
- [00:01:35.280]because after your first session you're gonna walk away
- [00:01:38.160]and feel amazing 'cause you gotta have those conversations.
- [00:01:40.920]So I just think it's worth taking a chance at
- [00:01:43.320]least to do it.
- [00:01:44.490]Yeah, and because I enjoyed it so much
- [00:01:46.710]I tell a lot of colleagues and other people just
- [00:01:49.680]this is really an easy thing to do
- [00:01:51.810]and a great way to make an impact on campus.
- [00:01:53.730]So, try to encourage other people to be guides too
- [00:01:56.700]'cause I know we can always use more.
