- [00:00:00.540]My name is Abby.
- [00:00:01.410]I'm from Omaha
- [00:00:02.580]and I'm a management major on a pre-law track.
- [00:00:04.950]I've been to Europe before
- [00:00:06.600]and I just got to like do a day in each different city
- [00:00:10.230]and Barcelona was one of my favorites.
- [00:00:12.450]And I always knew that I wanted to come back.
- [00:00:14.190]I wanted a city that would put me outside of my comfort zone
- [00:00:17.280]but also where I would be able to communicate still
- [00:00:19.770]and get around enough,
- [00:00:21.420]be able to walk around by myself and be independent,
- [00:00:24.150]but also do stuff with friends.
- [00:00:25.560]I'm lucky to be a part of a huge travel family,
- [00:00:28.320]so my grandparents and my parents are all
- [00:00:31.350]really into international travel
- [00:00:32.940]so it wasn't too hard for me to convince them.
- [00:00:34.980]But I'm a part of an honors program
- [00:00:37.470]that gives me a scholarship to come.
- [00:00:39.120]So that helped a lot as far as paying for my schooling
- [00:00:42.540]and just explaining why I wanted to go to Spain
- [00:00:45.780]and what kind of support I would need while I was there.
- [00:00:48.420]I am someone who loves to do a bunch of different stuff
- [00:00:50.490]so even though I've been here a week
- [00:00:51.570]I've been fortunate to do a couple different things.
- [00:00:53.400]Yesterday I went to the Moco Museum.
- [00:00:55.320]It's a museum of more modern art,
- [00:00:56.970]so some graffiti or like different stuff that they do
- [00:01:00.510]like on artwork outside.
- [00:01:02.640]And there was Andy Warhol.
- [00:01:04.650]There was a bunch of different artists.
- [00:01:05.940]It's fairly new, a lot of different styles of art.
- [00:01:09.510]You just walk through and they have a little audio guide.
- [00:01:11.400]And so I did that yesterday. I loved it.
- [00:01:13.230]It was beautiful.
- [00:01:14.490]Besides that, the beach is amazing and sunny
- [00:01:18.510]and something we definitely don't have in Nebraska
- [00:01:20.430]so that was nice.
- [00:01:21.420]And then what else have I done?
- [00:01:23.610]I've just honestly walked the city.
- [00:01:25.110]I've gotten to try a lot of really different restaurants.
- [00:01:27.989]Some restaurants that were close
- [00:01:29.880]that are like more like American food.
- [00:01:31.560]Like we went for 50 cent wings last night and that was fun.
- [00:01:34.230]But then yesterday I went to like a brunch spot
- [00:01:36.210]that was more traditional.
- [00:01:37.260]And so just trying out all the different food and walking
- [00:01:39.510]and experiencing the neighborhood both that we live in
- [00:01:41.730]and then as well, the neighborhood at school.
- [00:01:43.710]I think that in management especially
- [00:01:46.380]you work with a lot of different people.
- [00:01:48.150]Especially if you're higher up, you're gonna be
- [00:01:50.171]overseeing people and just working with people
- [00:01:52.800]that are so different from you and diverse
- [00:01:54.930]and come from all different areas.
- [00:01:56.340]So I think learning to appreciate culture
- [00:01:59.010]and other people's experiences
- [00:02:00.540]and that not everyone is coming from a life
- [00:02:02.340]that you're so used to.
- [00:02:03.480]As someone from Omaha who went to Lincoln
- [00:02:05.550]I kind of felt like I was in a bubble.
- [00:02:06.810]So I've learned a lot about other people,
- [00:02:08.850]whether that's even just students on the trip with me
- [00:02:11.280]or other people in Spain.
- [00:02:12.750]And then just pushing you outside of your comfort zone.
- [00:02:15.540]I mean, not everything's gonna be easy
- [00:02:16.920]and exactly how you want it to be all the time.
- [00:02:18.570]And so learning to appreciate that and just adapting,
- [00:02:22.140]being alone and stuff like that.
