[00:00:00.000]Each week Dr. Xin Qiao, and I put out a weekly
[00:00:04.000]crop water use numbers for the Panhandle area crops.
[00:00:09.930]We get these num bers based on what the ET reading is
[00:00:13.200]off an ET reading guage or what our local weather
[00:00:17.015]stations indicate. It is the previous readings based off
[00:00:24.085]the alfalfa crop. From those we take those reading and use
[00:00:29.760]them and convert them to what the other crops
[00:00:33.430]have used based on that crops certain crop growth stage
[00:00:38.135]There's what they call a KC value that we multiple by the ET
[00:00:42.885]number, and we come up with the estimated crop
[00:00:45.527]water use for that crop at that crop growth stage.
[00:00:48.724]Then we take and publish those on various websites
[00:00:52.499]and in various news outlets. One is the panhandle research and extension
[00:00:57.619]center water ag lab web page. You can find it there. You can find it on the UNL Crop Watch
[00:01:04.494]web page each week and other news outlets.
[00:01:09.892]So we want those numbers we put those out so growers can if they want
[00:01:15.465]take those numbers and try to determine how much irrigation water
[00:01:20.047]they would apply. So they would take that estimated
[00:01:23.098]crop water use for the previous week subtract out any
[00:01:26.314]precipitation and any water they may have applied.
[00:01:29.284]then divide it by the estimated efficiency of their pivot and they'll come up with a number
[00:01:35.685]if it is a positive number that would indicate
[00:01:38.546]how much water they would need to apply through
[00:01:40.569]their pivot to make up their difference. if it is a negative number
[00:01:43.564]that would indicate they would not need to add anymore
[00:01:46.521]water they are working on a balance. If they need more
