- [00:00:00.180]All right, thank you, Ben.
- [00:00:01.020]Delighted to be joined by
- [00:00:01.890]the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:00:03.690]Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:04.523]Well, we've seen a nice little run of success, chancellor,
- [00:00:06.690]with some of these spring sports.
- [00:00:08.250]And I know you're proud of that.
- [00:00:09.147]Also, having the baseball team here in Omaha,
- [00:00:11.640]we expect big crowds.
- [00:00:12.750]This could be a fun week up here in Omaha.
- [00:00:14.880]Well, you bet, Greg.
- [00:00:16.410]It's kind of the culmination
- [00:00:17.940]of the spring support season right now as we speak.
- [00:00:20.640]And last weekend, a big weekend for our track and field team
- [00:00:25.200]as they went to the Big 10 tournament,
- [00:00:26.940]and walked away with our men being the champions
- [00:00:29.490]of the Big 10 in track and field.
- [00:00:31.980]And ranked number six in the country
- [00:00:33.630]going into the NCAAs in Austin.
- [00:00:35.790]And our women were third in the conference
- [00:00:38.850]in that same tournament.
- [00:00:40.020]And they're ranked 12th in the country.
- [00:00:42.270]Just a great year for track and field.
- [00:00:44.280]We're very proud of them across the board.
- [00:00:46.710]Our women's softball team,
- [00:00:48.120]of course, qualified for the NCAA tournament,
- [00:00:51.700]and capped off a really good year for them as well.
- [00:00:56.040]And then baseball,
- [00:00:57.060]to be here in the Big 10 tournament in Omaha,
- [00:01:00.060]excited, of course, to see our baseball team compete
- [00:01:02.970]in front of kind of a home day crowd.
- [00:01:05.121]They're just 50 some miles up the road from Haymarket Park.
- [00:01:08.940]So, a great conference season,
- [00:01:12.330]going into the end of the season,
- [00:01:14.220]having a 10-2 record in the conference.
- [00:01:16.380]So, just excited for the spring sports season
- [00:01:20.130]and the success that we're seeing in our teams.
- [00:01:22.590]Well, congratulations to you,
- [00:01:24.090]and another semester in the books.
- [00:01:25.830]Big commencement over the weekend,
- [00:01:27.630]what were some of the highlights in your eyes?
- [00:01:29.910]Well, commencement is,
- [00:01:32.100]our listeners have heard me say many times,
- [00:01:34.440]is my favorite time of the year.
- [00:01:36.360]The other favorite time of the year is
- [00:01:37.480]the start of a year with the freshman class.
- [00:01:39.810]And this was a big commencement for us,
- [00:01:43.380]you know, a record commencement.
- [00:01:45.180]Again, the last six years that had been a record,
- [00:01:48.960]all time record for the university and a graduating class.
- [00:01:52.650]And just excited for them.
- [00:01:55.380]It's the best class we've ever had.
- [00:01:57.480]This was our COVID class, I'm calling it.
- [00:02:00.330]They started as freshman,
- [00:02:02.520]ran into the tunnel for their freshman information
- [00:02:07.050]in August of 2019.
- [00:02:09.030]And then COVID hit, their freshman year
- [00:02:11.700]when they were students as freshmen.
- [00:02:14.430]So, just remarkable to see what they have done.
- [00:02:17.880]The best academic class we've ever had.
- [00:02:19.920]The most highly career placed class we've ever had.
- [00:02:23.910]And just a really great accomplishment for them.
- [00:02:28.335]It was my last commencement
- [00:02:30.380]as the chancellor of the university,
- [00:02:32.430]so I kind of felt like I was commencing with them.
- [00:02:35.910]And they gave me the honor and privilege
- [00:02:38.010]of speaking to them as the commencement speaker.
- [00:02:41.010]And that was a real high point.
- [00:02:43.860]I'll remember that for a long time in my chancellorship.
- [00:02:47.520]I talked a little bit to them about our friend, Sam Foltz,
- [00:02:50.563]and his credo couldn't have been better words
- [00:02:54.690]for our graduates as they go off into the world
- [00:02:58.140]of dreaming big, and working hard, and staying humble,
- [00:03:02.160]remembering that credo of Sam's.
- [00:03:05.280]So, it was just a really special moment in Memorial Stadium
- [00:03:08.430]with just over 3,600 new graduates of the university.
- [00:03:12.900]And the day before, with our graduates,
- [00:03:14.820]our PhD, and master students, and professional students.
- [00:03:17.610]So, just still kind of tingling with joy, I guess,
- [00:03:22.750]is the way I would describe it
- [00:03:24.438]for this great graduating class.
- [00:03:26.645]Congratulations, to all of them.
- [00:03:28.560]Well, let's have some fun this week.
- [00:03:29.880]Maybe we can shock the world here
- [00:03:31.710]up here in Omaha. Hey, hey.
- [00:03:33.120]Go, Big Red! Ronnie Green with us
- [00:03:34.710]here on our pre-game.
- [00:03:35.543]And we're back with the first pitch, Huskers.
- [00:03:36.930]Opener here in the Big 10 tournament,
- [00:03:38.262]that's coming up next here on the Huskers Radio Network.
