- [00:00:07.240]Thank you guys all for a very warm welcome.
- [00:00:09.880]And congratulations to everyone who is here tonight.
- [00:00:13.560]It's an honor to be up here and with all of you.
- [00:00:16.920]If four years ago you told me that I would be here tonight,
- [00:00:19.600]I would say first I would say, wow.
- [00:00:22.600]So the pandemic does end
- [00:00:25.520]and I second thought would be I know I couldn't have done it on my own.
- [00:00:29.640]I came here from Connecticut not knowing what would be coming
- [00:00:33.760]my way, just as most of you also have.
- [00:00:36.960]Looking out amongst the crowd,
- [00:00:38.440]I see a lot of my peers, but also people I would consider my friends.
- [00:00:42.880]We are all here tonight not just because of our personal perseverance
- [00:00:46.360]and our drive to be and do our best for ourselves and our communities.
- [00:00:51.240]But because of the support many of us received from each other
- [00:00:54.640]and the faculty and staff inside and outside this room tonight.
- [00:00:58.920]It wasn't long after starting
- [00:01:00.360]my freshman year, I knew whether or not I needed
- [00:01:04.280]help with the coursework or whatever, and the world emergency was happening.
- [00:01:08.720]I had people I could turn to.
- [00:01:11.120]One of the many highlights of my experience
- [00:01:13.440]was being able to contrast my courses for honors.
- [00:01:16.920]And I'd like to thank Dr.
- [00:01:18.240]Belcher for letting me contract pretty much every single one of his courses.
- [00:01:22.880]I know that couldn't have been the most enjoyable part
- [00:01:26.160]of his semester here in the College of Arts and Sciences.
- [00:01:30.000]Everyone is eager to push and support you to achieve your full potential,
- [00:01:34.080]and we'll foster your curiosity beyond the coursework.
- [00:01:38.320]One of the great slogans is let curiosity move you.
- [00:01:40.640]And I think that for many of us here who are sitting here,
- [00:01:43.880]do let that kind of push us and help us explore the world.
- [00:01:48.520]Just a few months ago, I was representing CAS at a red letter day talking about how
- [00:01:52.360]I needed to sit down and actually fill out my applications for graduate school.
- [00:01:56.720]Graduate school
- [00:01:58.800]That evening, Nicholas Gordon, who is sitting right over
- [00:02:02.120]there, sent me an email with Trina
- [00:02:05.920]Cress a CAS career coach.
- [00:02:09.520]So I actually have to do my resume and get it reviewed
- [00:02:13.440]and actually start applying to graduate school.
- [00:02:15.840]So thank you for that.
- [00:02:18.840]And I'd like to thank the amazing faculty
- [00:02:21.120]and staff for being here and for all of us.
- [00:02:25.200]Many people being celebrated tonight of accomplishment,
- [00:02:27.600]a part of great things in and out of the classroom.
- [00:02:31.800]We all have something in common.
- [00:02:34.360]You let curiosity move you.
- [00:02:37.320]And the reason we're all sitting here is because we stepped
- [00:02:40.000]out of our comfort zones and took a chance into the unknown.
- [00:02:43.400]Something that some of you guys may know is I am from Connecticut,
- [00:02:46.440]as I mentioned before, but I had never been to the Midwest, not even Chicago
- [00:02:50.760]before my new student enrollment day.
- [00:02:54.000]I had the flu and it was completely awful
- [00:02:57.800]and I was really worried it was a bad omen.
- [00:02:59.440]But I'm proud to say that Nebraska is now my home, so I can't
- [00:03:03.760]love to thank all of you guys for that.
- [00:03:06.520]The beautiful thing about college and about life is no two
- [00:03:09.680]parts are ever the same.
- [00:03:11.400]Some people are leaders on and off campus.
- [00:03:13.440]Some have or had internships.
- [00:03:15.480]Some have studied abroad, found their passion volunteering.
- [00:03:18.840]Some have done more than one or none.
- [00:03:20.720]But everyone has achieved great things.
- [00:03:24.600]I personally have stepped out
- [00:03:26.280]of my comfort zone on many different occasions here at UNL.
- [00:03:29.960]And that's how you wind up with three or more minors,
- [00:03:32.760]as the other speakers who are up here can also attest to.
- [00:03:38.040]I'm excited to see what will come from everyone in this room.
- [00:03:41.400]I know you guys all have achieved great things and will continue to and I'm
- [00:03:44.480]personally excited to see what comes of my graduate studies here at UNL.
- [00:03:48.600]Thank you.
