- [00:05:08.400]A first generation student is a student whose parents
- [00:05:11.000]or guardians do not have a four year degree.
- [00:05:13.950]If your parents or guardians started college
- [00:05:16.020]and stopped, you're first gen.
- [00:05:18.150]If your parents or guardians
- [00:05:19.380]earned a certificate or an associate's degree,
- [00:05:22.080]you're first gen.
- [00:05:23.580]If your parents or guardians never went to college,
- [00:05:26.190]you're first gen.
- [00:05:27.600]If you have a sibling who's currently attending college
- [00:05:30.330]but your parents don't have a college degree,
- [00:05:32.520]you're still first gen.
- [00:05:34.230]And if your parents are guardians, went to college
- [00:05:36.420]outside the United States, you're first gen.
- [00:05:39.830]Being a first gen student is exciting, but it
- [00:05:42.450]can be overwhelming too.
- [00:05:44.100]It can sometimes feel like other students have
- [00:05:46.350]some secret playbook that explains how everything works,
- [00:05:49.260]where all the resources are, and what all those
- [00:05:51.180]acronyms stand for.
- [00:05:52.980]The First Husker program is specifically
- [00:05:54.870]designed to help first gen students get connected
- [00:05:57.420]and comfortable on campus
- [00:05:59.160]and start building the strong support network
- [00:06:01.440]they need to help them thrive in college.
- [00:06:04.200]First Huskers are invited to move to campus early
- [00:06:06.690]on Sunday, August 13th, and participate
- [00:06:09.870]in a four day, foundational program
- [00:06:11.820]August 14th through 17th,
- [00:06:13.830]where you'll make new friends, connect
- [00:06:15.630]with CAST coaches and peer mentors
- [00:06:17.790]and get settled in and comfortable on campus
- [00:06:20.190]before all the other students arrive and classes start.
- [00:06:23.880]There are just 200 spots available
- [00:06:26.220]so be sure to sign up today.
