[00:00:08.700]and I have the honor to serve as the executive director
[00:00:12.720]for Military Relations
[00:00:14.700]and the Military and Veteran Success Center here
[00:00:17.340]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
[00:00:21.000]I am a graduate and received my commission
[00:00:24.030]through ROTC here at Nebraska.
[00:00:28.560]I served over 28 years in the United States Air Force.
[00:00:32.850]And currently, this is year five for me
[00:00:35.940]as the executive director for the center.
[00:00:38.970]Today, I wanna share a little bit about the center
[00:00:41.790]and some of the services that we have here
[00:00:44.640]for our military-connected students.
[00:00:57.150]So at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
[00:00:59.340]we have over 1600 military-connected students.
[00:01:03.120]About 64% are military dependents, 23% are veterans,
[00:01:08.310]and the remaining 13%, active duty, reserve,
[00:01:11.580]and National Guard students.
[00:01:13.740]And about almost 60% of those are from the National Guard.
[00:01:19.740]Our military-connected students
[00:01:22.620]attend all the different colleges here
[00:01:24.570]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
[00:01:27.240]but here are the top five
[00:01:28.620]with the College of Arts and Science being number one.
[00:01:35.970]We wanna be a one-stop shop here at the university,
[00:01:39.330]and we focus on five pillars of excellence.
[00:01:42.480]First is access to educational benefits and resources.
[00:01:47.130]We're primarily the VAs.
[00:01:50.310]We are the go-between with the VA
[00:01:52.290]and certify those benefits.
[00:01:54.840]But we also wanna help with tuition assistance,
[00:01:57.840]and also residency, and anything else that we can do
[00:02:00.960]to help students be able to pay for their college.
[00:02:05.790]We also provide academic services,
[00:02:08.550]whether that's tutoring, computers.
[00:02:12.120]We also have free printing
[00:02:14.220]and also partner with other organizations here on campus
[00:02:17.400]to make sure students accomplish their academic goals.
[00:02:21.810]We have dedicated and supportive student services
[00:02:24.810]and we partner with the campus.
[00:02:27.060]But the unique thing here
[00:02:28.380]is we also partner real closely with the VA.
[00:02:32.010]The VA actually has office hours in our center.
[00:02:36.330]Number four is career services.
[00:02:38.970]So not only do we wanna see students be successful
[00:02:41.460]and graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
[00:02:44.370]but we also wanna see them follow on to those careers
[00:02:48.090]and get with companies that they're excited to be with.
[00:02:51.510]And we work closely with companies
[00:02:53.730]and make sure that students have that connection.
[00:02:57.210]And the last one is outreach.
[00:02:59.100]So we work closely with faculty
[00:03:00.960]and staff to make sure that they're aware
[00:03:02.730]of some of the challenges
[00:03:03.660]for our military-connected students,
[00:03:05.670]but also, we work closely with community
[00:03:08.070]and partner at different times during the year
[00:03:10.770]for different events.
