- [00:00:00.120]Thank you, Ben, delighted to be joined
- [00:00:01.470]by the chancellor of the University of
- [00:00:02.820]Nebraska Lincoln, Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:04.200]We're into the final month of the school year,
- [00:00:06.450]final month of competition for Husker athletes.
- [00:00:10.260]You monitor this as much as anybody.
- [00:00:13.260]What's your expectations for the next couple weeks?
- [00:00:15.420]Well, you know, we're in that lead up time
- [00:00:18.150]of the year in our bat and ball sports to the
- [00:00:21.976]really important part of the regular season
- [00:00:24.690]and tournaments coming around the corner
- [00:00:26.610]and with both our baseball and our softball teams
- [00:00:30.060]the Big 10 tournaments coming up next week
- [00:00:32.970]in Champaign in Illinois, and the baseball team's
- [00:00:35.760]in a tight race, you know, in the Big 10.
- [00:00:37.860]It's got a whole pile of teams clumped together really
- [00:00:40.531]for the eight spots of the tournament
- [00:00:43.590]that'll be in Omaha and a big weekend currently
- [00:00:47.070]as well for our track and field team
- [00:00:48.480]that are in competition season as well,
- [00:00:50.580]men's and women's track and field
- [00:00:52.350]are both in Bloomington this weekend.
- [00:00:55.410]So just kind of rounding the bend, as they say,
- [00:00:59.370]in our spring sports season and looking forward
- [00:01:02.370]to the competition for all of these teams.
- [00:01:04.590]Well, you mentioned all those things
- [00:01:05.700]that are ahead.
- [00:01:06.533]It's also a big week ahead at Nebraska Innovation Campus.
- [00:01:09.780]What is in store this week coming up on campus?
- [00:01:12.330]Well, there's a couple big events happening
- [00:01:15.360]at Nebraska Innovation Campus starting this Sunday
- [00:01:19.290]with the kickoff of the Global Water For Food Conference.
- [00:01:22.920]So the Daugherty Water For Food Global Institute
- [00:01:25.500]that we started here
- [00:01:26.490]at the university back in 2010, remember really well.
- [00:01:31.620]The formation of the Water For Food Institute
- [00:01:34.140]and the work that we do all
- [00:01:35.100]over the world in the area of water and food.
- [00:01:38.432]One of the significant things that the Water
- [00:01:41.910]For Food Institute has done is host a global forum annually.
- [00:01:48.600]This is the first big one we've had like this since COVID.
- [00:01:51.810]We kind of came out of the pandemic and they're kicking off
- [00:01:54.990]their Global Water For Food Conference
- [00:01:57.210]on Innovation Campus on Sunday going through Tuesday.
- [00:02:00.900]So people from all over the world here is part
- [00:02:04.380]of that conference and talking about all
- [00:02:07.350]of the issues that are associated
- [00:02:09.060]with preserving and conserving
- [00:02:10.890]and using our water wisely in the food system.
- [00:02:15.270]And also alongside of the Water For Food Conference,
- [00:02:19.380]a big Herman lecture.
- [00:02:20.940]The Herman lectures are honor lectures that are part
- [00:02:25.170]of our Institute of Ag and Natural Resources,
- [00:02:27.570]and there's one being joint with the Global Water
- [00:02:30.600]For Food Conference this week where Beth Ford
- [00:02:33.990]who is the CEO and president of Land of Lakes Company
- [00:02:37.459]in Michigan, one of the large, you know,
- [00:02:40.590]Fortune 200 food production and ag business companies
- [00:02:43.800]that's actually a farmer-owned cooperative,
- [00:02:46.721]a century old cooperative, particularly in the
- [00:02:50.662]milk protein areas.
- [00:02:52.920]One of the things Land of Lakes is well known for
- [00:02:55.054]and Beth is the Herman lecturer
- [00:02:57.420]and is going to be coming and talking on Monday
- [00:03:01.428]for that lecture with the Herman lecture
- [00:03:04.830]and as part of the Global Water For Food Institute.
- [00:03:07.140]And then I also just wanted to mention
- [00:03:09.847]that we recently lost one of the great icons
- [00:03:14.477]of media and journalism for Nebraska and the world,
- [00:03:20.880]Ron Hull, who was one of the premier leaders
- [00:03:26.010]in public broadcasting throughout his career.
- [00:03:29.130]His long career here was one of the longest term
- [00:03:33.240]employees of the University of Nebraska.
- [00:03:36.330]He was 92, passed away a couple of weeks ago.
- [00:03:40.410]His funeral services were just recently in Lincoln.
- [00:03:44.310]So will miss Ron.
- [00:03:45.660]I mean, he helped guide the development
- [00:03:49.380]of public media in Nebraska going back into the 1950s.
- [00:03:53.790]And Nebraska has been a national leader in that arena.
- [00:03:58.350]I was really privileged to know Ron well
- [00:04:01.290]and get to know him well over the last couple of decades
- [00:04:04.710]of his life.
- [00:04:05.543]And he was good friends with Dick Cavett
- [00:04:08.970]and had the privilege of going to see Dick with him
- [00:04:13.470]in his last visit with him here just in the last year.
- [00:04:16.260]So a big loss, a wonderful life that Ron Hull lived
- [00:04:20.730]and the contributions he made to media and broadcasting.
- [00:04:24.330]Truly an icon.
- [00:04:25.163]I appreciate you as being a member of that industry.
- [00:04:27.030]Appreciate you mentioning Ron, we dearly, dearly missed.
- [00:04:29.580]Good to see you.
- [00:04:30.898]Have a great week.
- [00:04:31.815]Yeah, well, as always, go Big Red.
- [00:04:33.570]Beat the Terps.
- [00:04:34.403]Ronnie Green with us here on our pregame.
- [00:04:35.850]We're back with First Pitch Huskers
- [00:04:37.410]and the Maryland Terrapins.
- [00:04:38.520]That's coming up next.
