- [00:00:03.570]Hey, how's everybody doing today?
- [00:00:06.030]Welcome to the Military Science Department, Army ROTC.
- [00:00:11.700]I wanna give a big shout out to new student enrollment
- [00:00:14.940]for allowing us to make this presentation
- [00:00:17.130]about what the Army ROTC is
- [00:00:20.760]and what the Army ROTC can offer.
- [00:00:24.570]My contact information and so forth
- [00:00:26.850]will be at the end of this slide.
- [00:00:28.320]However, my location's right there in the lower corner
- [00:00:30.651]right next to Memorial Stadium.
- [00:00:32.700]If you do have any questions, come see me.
- [00:00:36.180]What is Army Reserve Officer Training Corp?
- [00:00:38.610]Or in other words, ROTC.
- [00:00:41.460]To simplify it, it's you going to college
- [00:00:44.850]getting your degree.
- [00:00:45.900]Simultaneously working on your managerial skills
- [00:00:49.050]and your leadership skills to commission in the Army
- [00:00:52.320]as an army officer.
- [00:00:54.780]There is no obligation until your junior year.
- [00:00:59.130]I wanna reemphasize that,
- [00:01:01.230]there is no obligation until your junior year.
- [00:01:05.100]To add to it, there is no basic training
- [00:01:07.950]and you do not have to go and see an Army recruiter.
- [00:01:11.010]You literally just enroll in the class
- [00:01:13.860]and start learning about the army
- [00:01:15.570]before you sign a contract with the Army.
- [00:01:18.270]We pride ourselves on that
- [00:01:19.830]so I just have to emphasize that point.
- [00:01:22.710]Also, for my out-of-state individuals,
- [00:01:24.810]we have what's called the Husker Salute Program.
- [00:01:28.350]This program allows you to go from out-of-state rates
- [00:01:31.830]to in-state rates.
- [00:01:33.240]It is a scholarship that is over $17,000 a year.
- [00:01:38.130]There is a potential savings of roughly $33,000
- [00:01:44.280]just by being a participating cadet.
- [00:01:47.670]You do not have to contract until the junior year,
- [00:01:51.690]and I'm gonna clarify that.
- [00:01:53.160]What happens if you don't wanna
- [00:01:55.140]continue on to your junior year?
- [00:01:57.240]Then you just saved roughly $33,000 and had a great day.
- [00:02:01.590]At least you learned about the Army
- [00:02:03.600]and you did some physical fitness
- [00:02:05.700]and had a good time.
- [00:02:08.310]Opportunities. So, opportunities is not only
- [00:02:12.090]just learning about the Army before you sign a contract,
- [00:02:14.640]but we also pay for school.
- [00:02:15.930]As you can see behind me, I have a big check.
- [00:02:17.700]I'm gonna kind of show you a close up
- [00:02:19.140]as we go through the slides.
- [00:02:20.880]But on average we hand out $62,000 to individuals
- [00:02:26.940]who want to go and participate in ROTC.
- [00:02:31.260]We also have scholarships that are two, three year long.
- [00:02:36.480]Also with the Army Nursing Scholarship
- [00:02:39.300]we guarantee placement in the nursing corp.
- [00:02:41.880]And if your grades are good,
- [00:02:44.400]your GPA is okay and it's above a 3.3,
- [00:02:48.720]we guarantee a slot at UNMC.
- [00:02:52.110]We also will have what's called
- [00:02:53.280]the Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarships.
- [00:02:56.220]Those are for the individuals,
- [00:02:57.750]and I might be talking to you right now,
- [00:02:59.310]who are in the part-time military
- [00:03:01.260]as in the United States Army Reserves
- [00:03:03.390]or the National Guard.
- [00:03:05.160]Might as well get paid to go to school.
- [00:03:08.310]The way that breaks down, scholarships.
- [00:03:10.470]We will pay tuition and fees
- [00:03:12.870]or room and board up to $10,000 per academic school year.
- [00:03:17.970]You have to choose either/or.
- [00:03:19.650]The way we always try to tell individuals is
- [00:03:22.140]if your tuition and fees is $4,999 or lower
- [00:03:26.640]we tell you to go ahead
- [00:03:27.600]and pick the room and board option
- [00:03:28.770]so you can make that extra dollar. Okay?
- [00:03:31.260]We also added yearly stipend for books,
- [00:03:33.390]and pencils and supplies.
- [00:03:36.510]That's gonna be $1,200 per academic year
- [00:03:38.490]and it breaks down to 600 and 600 for each semester.
- [00:03:42.390]We will give you a monthly spending stipend of $420,
- [00:03:46.020]which is a great opportunity to save a little extra cash
- [00:03:49.890]and to help you out with that meal plan.
- [00:03:52.890]Some of the options when it comes to these scholarships
- [00:03:56.040]the two, the three, and the four year, don't get confused,
- [00:04:00.210]they are legitimately all the same scholarships.
- [00:04:03.450]So that money that you see on this screen
- [00:04:06.570]for every single scholarship,
- [00:04:07.920]whether it's 2, 3, 4 year guaranteed,
- [00:04:09.870]reserve forces duty or nursing, it's all the same.
- [00:04:14.970]So I wanted to clarify that.
- [00:04:16.860]The nursing scholarship, like I said,
- [00:04:18.570]however, the yearly book stipend, that's the only change,
- [00:04:22.800]and it is you will receive that $1,200 upfront
- [00:04:25.800]at the beginning of the first semester in the fall.
- [00:04:29.430]Over there, on the other side of the slide,
- [00:04:31.860]will be the requirements. Okay?
- [00:04:34.633]3.3, that is a GPA required to get into UNMC
- [00:04:39.750]for the United States Army.
- [00:04:41.220]Alright? You will have to meet, for all scholarships,
- [00:04:44.790]our physical height and weight requirements,
- [00:04:47.190]and we understand that you might not be as physically fit
- [00:04:50.220]as you think, you know,
- [00:04:51.360]and you're a little hesitant to do it.
- [00:04:53.130]We start off at a crawl, walk, run method.
- [00:04:56.340]We will get you there.
- [00:04:57.690]All you have to do is let us help and work out
- [00:04:59.610]and just show up for physical fitness.
- [00:05:03.810]Scholarship data. There it is.
- [00:05:07.800]As you can see right now,
- [00:05:09.750]we're just a little shy of 50% right now with the freshmens
- [00:05:13.716]for this year's freshmans, okay?
- [00:05:17.550]As people progress through the process with ROTC,
- [00:05:23.160]we really pride ourselves that literally 70% roughly
- [00:05:29.400]are on scholarship.
- [00:05:30.720]Minus, as you can see, this year as the seniors.
- [00:05:33.120]That was the whole Covid eras and all that kind of stuff.
- [00:05:35.520]So, we'll blame Covid for the higher non-contracted,
- [00:05:39.060]non-scholarships on that, right?
- [00:05:41.520]Moving on. Our military science courses, here they are.
- [00:05:48.840]100 level classes, one credit.
- [00:05:52.830]200 level classes, two credits.
- [00:05:56.490]Then we have our history class that we will take, okay?
- [00:05:58.890]Everybody has to take a military history course.
- [00:06:01.110]Then you go to the 300 level classes.
- [00:06:03.270]That's your junior year.
- [00:06:04.830]That's the time in which you have to be contracted.
- [00:06:06.450]So you literally have two years to learn about the army
- [00:06:09.630]and figure out if this is the right fit for you.
- [00:06:12.300]But the 300 level classes are, like I said,
- [00:06:14.370]three credit hours
- [00:06:15.570]and the 400 level classes are three credit hours.
- [00:06:19.410]You see in there what's called Advanced Camp.
- [00:06:22.170]We're gonna kind of get into advanced camp
- [00:06:24.000]here in a little bit.
- [00:06:26.176]I wanna stay focused on military science courses
- [00:06:30.240]and kind of what your weekly schedule will look like.
- [00:06:33.120]Your weekly schedule is gonna be physical fitness
- [00:06:34.920]every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
- [00:06:37.170]from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM.
- [00:06:40.350]Yep. Gotta wake up.
- [00:06:42.240]However, are you willing to wake up a little early
- [00:06:45.180]on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
- [00:06:47.010]for my out-of-state people to save $33,000 in two years?
- [00:06:51.480]I'm gonna leave that up to you.
- [00:06:53.160]Our classes, they're on your MyRed account,
- [00:06:55.800]so check out the MyRed for our schedules.
- [00:06:59.610]The Leadership Labs,
- [00:07:00.780]that is every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 PM, okay?
- [00:07:06.000]Sometimes it goes about 3:30 to 5:30,
- [00:07:08.450]it just depends on what we're doing.
- [00:07:09.870]If we're doing land navigation
- [00:07:11.550]or if we're working on basic army
- [00:07:14.370]or military tactics and maneuvers.
- [00:07:16.770]As you can see here,
- [00:07:17.603]one of our leadership labs was at the Pinnacle Bank Arena
- [00:07:20.550]and they repelled from the ceiling
- [00:07:24.420]of the Pinnacle Bank Arena down
- [00:07:25.560]and presented some of the basketballs and so forth
- [00:07:28.320]for the state championships for high schools.
- [00:07:32.610]Other things that we do.
- [00:07:33.600]We do the color guard at Memorial Stadium.
- [00:07:35.400]So if you're interested in getting in that field,
- [00:07:36.990]kind of, being on the, having the spotlight on you
- [00:07:39.750]in front of almost 90,000 people, come see us.
- [00:07:45.720]Field Training Exercises.
- [00:07:49.080]This right here is normally anywhere from two
- [00:07:51.270]to three days long, one time per semester.
- [00:07:54.150]This allows you to go to a military installation
- [00:07:56.910]or to some kind of training facility
- [00:07:59.910]and hone in your skills when it comes to tactical maneuvers.
- [00:08:04.200]Leading and maneuvering your peers and your soldiers,
- [00:08:09.570]you know, around the battlefield
- [00:08:11.280]and accomplishing the mission. Okay?
- [00:08:15.150]Is it difficult? Yes.
- [00:08:17.370]But is it fun? Yes.
- [00:08:19.890]The learning curve really, how should I say,
- [00:08:23.130]spikes when you do this three day field training exercise
- [00:08:27.150]and you'll have a lot of fun.
- [00:08:28.500]Everything's on us, all that stuff,
- [00:08:30.180]and I know most of the time
- [00:08:31.980]we normally have some kind of a pizza party or whatnot
- [00:08:34.680]while we're at the Field Training Exercise event.
- [00:08:40.830]We do like to have fun, alright?
- [00:08:42.510]Here at the Army ROTC.
- [00:08:43.830]As you can see, for Halloween we did costume PT.
- [00:08:48.120]And I do have to point this out,
- [00:08:49.650]you'll see down below the Care Bear
- [00:08:51.690]that is our instructor.
- [00:08:53.070]They all played one of our instructors,
- [00:08:54.780]they played basketball
- [00:08:55.860]and I do think they had a little bit of dodge ball going on
- [00:08:58.410]so it was a cadets versus the instructors that day
- [00:09:01.380]and all the instructors were in Care Bear costumes.
- [00:09:03.960]It was quite hilarious.
- [00:09:07.590]Moving on, I told you about Advanced Camp, all right?
- [00:09:10.020]Which we call Military Science Cadet Summer Training.
- [00:09:13.290]This is a 35 day training event, okay?
- [00:09:17.370]This is where you are being looked at by the Army
- [00:09:20.910]to place you into the army in a specific,
- [00:09:23.970]what we would call, career field, okay?
- [00:09:26.070]That can be a Combat MOS, that could be a Financial MOS,
- [00:09:32.850]or military occupational specialty or career field, okay?
- [00:09:36.390]It ranges everywhere from logistics
- [00:09:38.580]to military intelligence to,
- [00:09:41.280]literally, constructional engineering. Okay?
- [00:09:44.280]Check out this video and we have other videos, as well.
- [00:09:47.310]I'm glad I brought this up.
- [00:09:49.170]On our actual slide deck that you'll go into
- [00:09:52.290]without the narration,
- [00:09:53.550]we have a bunch of videos on there
- [00:09:54.780]so you can kind of see what the cadets do
- [00:09:57.030]and kinda see what Advanced Training is
- [00:10:00.150]for the juniors going into their senior year. Excuse me.
- [00:10:05.940]I do wanna take this time to say thank you
- [00:10:08.400]for watching our brief.
- [00:10:10.140]And if you do have any questions whatsoever,
- [00:10:13.530]please use this slide right here.
- [00:10:16.020]That is my phone numbers directly to me, my email.
- [00:10:18.870]Let me know that you might be interested.
- [00:10:20.730]Wanna sit down, get some more information.
- [00:10:22.920]And there's another resource that you could use
- [00:10:24.750]which is this QR code.
- [00:10:26.010]This will take you to basically the NSE Resources
- [00:10:29.580]where you can get this slide without the narration
- [00:10:32.940]and check out all those videos,
- [00:10:34.800]or you can just hit 'em up and say,
- [00:10:36.810]Hey I would like to talk to Justin
- [00:10:38.310]about potentially participating in the ROTC.
- [00:10:41.430]Just do me a favor, try it out.
- [00:10:45.570]You're here to learn.
- [00:10:46.500]Might as well learn about your army and all that stuff,
- [00:10:48.390]and if you do like it,
- [00:10:50.280]why not get the $62,000 to go to school?
- [00:10:53.400]So, once again, I do appreciate your time
- [00:10:56.790]and if you do have any questions,
- [00:10:58.650]please let me know
- [00:11:00.180]and I'll be here waiting and scheduling appointments.
- [00:11:02.700]Thank you and have a great rest of your day.
