- [00:00:02.550]Hi, everyone.
- [00:00:03.383]Thanks for joining me today.
- [00:00:04.860]My name is Leigh Thiedeman.
- [00:00:05.940]I serve as the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life
- [00:00:08.100]here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:10.110]I use she/her pronouns,
- [00:00:11.430]and I have been here for almost four years in my role.
- [00:00:15.000]On top of being the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life
- [00:00:17.220]I also serve as the primary advisor
- [00:00:18.870]for our Panhellenic Association.
- [00:00:20.280]So I'm excited to be here today
- [00:00:22.680]talking about joining a Panhellenic sorority.
- [00:00:25.110]If you were watching our presentation live
- [00:00:27.660]here during an NSC day,
- [00:00:28.980]you'd be speaking with one of our students,
- [00:00:31.350]Claire, who is our Vice President of Recruitment Logistics
- [00:00:33.570]is helping doing the presentations over the summer.
- [00:00:35.610]But I am happy to be filling in
- [00:00:37.290]for the online option today.
- [00:00:39.360]So let's go ahead and get started.
- [00:00:43.410]So an important thing about our community
- [00:00:45.870]is that we actually have four councils
- [00:00:47.640]a part of our community.
- [00:00:49.170]We have our Interfraternity Council or our IFC.
- [00:00:51.690]Our IFC has 25 fraternities that are a part of it.
- [00:00:55.440]16 of those have facilities.
- [00:00:57.660]These are our historically housed organizations
- [00:01:00.930]that are here on campus.
- [00:01:02.010]You'll see many of these facilities
- [00:01:03.750]are here on City Campus.
- [00:01:05.190]We have a few that are on East Campus as well.
- [00:01:07.650]We have our Multicultural Greek Council or MGC.
- [00:01:10.350]We have eight chapters that are a part of MGC,
- [00:01:12.540]five sororities and three fraternities.
- [00:01:15.270]Within MGC, we have Asian Interest, Latinx Interest
- [00:01:18.570]and Multicultural Interest Organizations.
- [00:01:21.780]We also have our National Panhellenic Council or NPHC.
- [00:01:24.870]These are historically African-American fraternities
- [00:01:27.240]and sororities here on campus.
- [00:01:28.920]We have five chapters that find a home within NPHC,
- [00:01:31.950]three fraternities and two sororities.
- [00:01:34.410]And then what we're here to talk about today, of course,
- [00:01:36.600]our Panhellenic Association or PHA,
- [00:01:39.660]where we have 15 chapters
- [00:01:40.980]that are a part of our Panhellenic community.
- [00:01:43.290]13 of those have facilities.
- [00:01:45.690]All of those chapters, all 13 of them facilities
- [00:01:48.720]are here around City Campus
- [00:01:50.550]within walking distance of the community.
- [00:01:54.240]So each of our organizations have their own core values
- [00:01:57.990]that are important to them,
- [00:01:59.790]that many have been around for years and years
- [00:02:01.620]as a part of their chapter experience.
- [00:02:04.020]We also have five values
- [00:02:05.370]in our fraternity and sorority community.
- [00:02:07.200]And the first is academic achievement.
- [00:02:09.360]We wanna make sure it's clear that our members
- [00:02:11.310]are students first before they are sorority members.
- [00:02:14.940]And I will tell you our chapters take this really seriously.
- [00:02:17.460]Every semester is a competition
- [00:02:19.140]to see which chapter is gonna have the highest GPA.
- [00:02:21.930]You can find all of our GPA information
- [00:02:24.030]that's available on our website.
- [00:02:25.350]So you can see how chapters have lined up
- [00:02:27.960]over the past few years.
- [00:02:29.130]But I will say we have very smart women in our community.
- [00:02:33.450]We do have GPA cutoffs to join some of our organizations
- [00:02:36.660]because they take their GPA so seriously.
- [00:02:39.360]Leadership development is our second value
- [00:02:41.280]and there are so many ways to be a leader on our campus.
- [00:02:44.190]I know one of the concerns I sometimes hear
- [00:02:46.770]from high school students
- [00:02:48.120]and making that transition to college
- [00:02:49.770]is am I gonna be able to be a leader right away?
- [00:02:51.720]They maybe are coming off of being presidents
- [00:02:54.780]of their organizations in high school
- [00:02:56.400]and are wondering if they have to start over
- [00:02:58.260]when they get to college.
- [00:02:59.130]And I would say, no, you can jump right in
- [00:03:02.550]to leadership positions, whether that's committee work,
- [00:03:05.340]being on chapter exec councils,
- [00:03:07.050]getting involved at a larger level
- [00:03:08.520]through the Panhellenic Emerging Leaders Program.
- [00:03:11.100]We also see our members
- [00:03:12.180]in almost every student organization on campus.
- [00:03:14.520]So getting involved and getting those skills for the resume
- [00:03:17.430]are definitely not things you need to worry about.
- [00:03:21.060]Our third value is community, excuse me, civic engagement.
- [00:03:24.660]And there's three ways that our chapters really give back.
- [00:03:27.630]So they do that through philanthropy,
- [00:03:29.340]through community service and through advocacy.
- [00:03:31.710]So their philanthropies are when they're raising money
- [00:03:34.110]for a particular cause.
- [00:03:35.310]And those will often look like some kind of food feed
- [00:03:38.520]or maybe a sports event.
- [00:03:39.690]So we might have a chapter hosting a nachos night
- [00:03:42.210]or a quesadilla, all you can eat quesadilla night,
- [00:03:45.450]raising money, or maybe they're hosting
- [00:03:47.160]a three-on-three basketball tournament
- [00:03:48.660]or a sand volleyball tournament and teams sign up
- [00:03:51.240]and that's how they raise their money.
- [00:03:53.160]Our chapters also do a lot of community service
- [00:03:55.380]in the local community where they're using their hands
- [00:03:58.020]and giving back to the community.
- [00:04:00.030]And then finally advocacy where
- [00:04:01.260]they're spreading information
- [00:04:02.880]about the causes they care about.
- [00:04:04.140]Those are often social media campaigns
- [00:04:06.180]or maybe even informationals here on campus.
- [00:04:09.090]Our fourth value is community and belonging.
- [00:04:11.190]And we always say the best part of joining a sorority
- [00:04:13.200]is really getting that sisterhood experience,
- [00:04:15.840]finding your people when you get here, right?
- [00:04:18.270]Studies show that creating that sense of belonging
- [00:04:21.630]within your first six weeks of your fall semester
- [00:04:25.920]lead to higher graduation rates, higher retention,
- [00:04:28.680]persistence through college.
- [00:04:30.300]And we definitely see that in the Panhellenic community.
- [00:04:33.120]We know our graduation rates are about 10 points higher
- [00:04:35.640]than non-Greek rates.
- [00:04:37.470]And within the Panhellenic community,
- [00:04:39.030]the retention rate is almost at 95%
- [00:04:41.310]from first year to second year
- [00:04:42.570]if you're in a Panhellenic sorority
- [00:04:44.610]versus almost 80% if you were a non-Greek member.
- [00:04:47.490]And so we're really proud of those statistics
- [00:04:51.570]showing that membership in our community
- [00:04:53.760]really does make a difference
- [00:04:55.020]to your persistence through college.
- [00:04:58.110]And then our final value,
- [00:04:59.190]our fifth one is inclusive excellence.
- [00:05:00.840]We truly believe that anyone can find a home
- [00:05:02.670]in our community if they keep their options open.
- [00:05:07.170]So I'm gonna talk a little bit
- [00:05:08.070]about our two recruitment processes and ways to join.
- [00:05:10.500]So we have got our primary recruitment process
- [00:05:12.690]that happens the fall before the fall semester begins.
- [00:05:15.630]And then our open recruitment process, we also call it COB.
- [00:05:19.260]That process takes place in the fall semester
- [00:05:21.330]and the spring semester.
- [00:05:22.860]I included our logo for this year's recruitment theme.
- [00:05:25.350]It is Be Fearlessly Authentic.
- [00:05:27.990]Our women take it really seriously
- [00:05:29.670]that they want people to come as they are,
- [00:05:31.350]to be authentically themselves
- [00:05:32.730]and to find a place where they can really
- [00:05:34.380]like find a home here on campus.
- [00:05:37.830]So throughout our primary recruitment process,
- [00:05:40.320]we have around 800 women that typically participate
- [00:05:43.230]in this process that starts the week before school starts.
- [00:05:46.080]An important thing to know is this is the only time
- [00:05:48.360]all 15 of our chapters are recruiting
- [00:05:50.430]and taking new members at the same time.
- [00:05:53.220]This year will take place starting Sunday, August 13th
- [00:05:56.100]through Saturday, August 19th.
- [00:05:58.410]And women need to register on or before July 21st
- [00:06:01.620]in order to guarantee early move in.
- [00:06:04.590]I wanna make sure I note that almost everyone
- [00:06:06.780]who signs up for recruitment will have an opportunity
- [00:06:08.820]to join our community if they keep their options open.
- [00:06:12.030]And if you make it through our whole process,
- [00:06:13.920]if you were there participating on preference
- [00:06:16.050]and you maximize your options
- [00:06:17.700]throughout the recruitment process,
- [00:06:19.320]they will have a bid at the end of the day.
- [00:06:21.600]And so when we open up bid cards on August 19th,
- [00:06:25.800]we can guarantee that they'll have a bid
- [00:06:27.360]if they followed us through the whole process
- [00:06:29.070]and they've maximized their options.
- [00:06:32.580]I wanna make sure I note that this is a values-based process
- [00:06:36.180]so every participant that's gonna be doing
- [00:06:39.630]primary recruitment will do an iValue survey.
- [00:06:43.380]It's something that happens after they register,
- [00:06:45.330]they're able to log in and take a survey
- [00:06:47.070]that really narrows down a bunch of values
- [00:06:49.590]until coming up with their top core values.
- [00:06:51.900]We put that value on their name tag.
- [00:06:54.750]The chapters will ask questions about their top values.
- [00:06:57.600]We really want to get to know the women
- [00:06:59.820]for who they are and what is important to them.
- [00:07:01.920]And so we make that a part of the recruitment experience.
- [00:07:04.650]You already heard about our five values in our community
- [00:07:07.500]and that each chapter has their own unique values
- [00:07:10.200]that are showcased throughout the recruitment experience.
- [00:07:12.990]Chapter invitations are based on their values.
- [00:07:15.420]They are asking questions
- [00:07:16.770]throughout the recruitment process
- [00:07:18.180]that are related to their values.
- [00:07:19.590]They wanna get to know your student better
- [00:07:21.750]and find out if their values are gonna match
- [00:07:23.820]with the chapter values.
- [00:07:25.530]We have found that this helps create a stronger bond
- [00:07:27.600]between members.
- [00:07:28.433]It fosters a positive environment for personal growth.
- [00:07:32.820]And we also recognize that sometimes people's values
- [00:07:35.010]change through college
- [00:07:35.940]and sometimes your chapter experience
- [00:07:37.650]is what helps some of that happen.
- [00:07:39.900]But want you to know that this values-based recruitment
- [00:07:42.210]is really important to us.
- [00:07:47.660]A person that's gonna be really important to your student
- [00:07:49.710]is called their Rho Gamma or their recruitment guide.
- [00:07:51.900]And this is a disaffiliated upper-class student
- [00:07:55.320]who is gonna guide your student through the process.
- [00:07:57.690]So it's a junior or senior member.
- [00:07:59.610]When I say disaffiliated,
- [00:08:00.810]I mean that she's not gonna share
- [00:08:02.010]which chapter she's a part of.
- [00:08:03.150]She's really trying to be a neutral party
- [00:08:04.890]throughout the process.
- [00:08:06.150]She is there to answer questions,
- [00:08:08.430]to work with a small group of women.
- [00:08:10.350]We usually have about eight to 12 in every Rho Gamma group.
- [00:08:14.460]Members are typically people who live
- [00:08:16.440]in the same residence hall.
- [00:08:17.970]If your student is living off campus or living at home,
- [00:08:21.270]we will set up recruitment groups for them too.
- [00:08:23.130]So there'll be with people
- [00:08:24.000]that are in a similar living situation.
- [00:08:26.340]But Rho Gamma is really their best resource
- [00:08:28.830]to ask questions throughout the recruitment process.
- [00:08:31.140]And an awesome thing is that they're gonna hear
- [00:08:32.730]from a Rho Gamma as soon as they register for recruitment
- [00:08:35.160]or within the first couple of days, I should say,
- [00:08:36.840]not as soon as,
- [00:08:38.340]but they're gonna hear from a Rho Gamma via text
- [00:08:40.890]and that's gonna reach out and ask
- [00:08:42.390]if they have any questions over the summer.
- [00:08:43.920]So your student can have their questions
- [00:08:46.170]start getting answered right away as soon as they pop up.
- [00:08:50.970]So we always get questions
- [00:08:52.290]about what's the week gonna look like.
- [00:08:53.760]So we wanna make sure we shared all of this.
- [00:08:55.770]So it starts again that week before the fall semester.
- [00:08:59.850]August 13th is gonna be move-in day.
- [00:09:01.530]That's a Sunday.
- [00:09:02.490]We also have PNM orientation that evening.
- [00:09:05.910]If you sign up for the primary recruitment process,
- [00:09:08.190]you will already be registered for early move-in.
- [00:09:11.190]We take care of that for you.
- [00:09:12.990]And you're gonna be assigned a move-in time
- [00:09:14.940]sometime during that day.
- [00:09:16.980]After move-in happens, we have PNM orientation.
- [00:09:19.380]That evening, they'll have their first Rho Gamma meetings
- [00:09:21.900]where everything's kind of explained to them.
- [00:09:23.430]It is a very casual day.
- [00:09:24.660]People do not need to be dressed up for it.
- [00:09:26.970]And recruitment begins on Monday, August 14th.
- [00:09:29.760]So the 14th and 15th are both our welcome rounds
- [00:09:32.850]where they get to meet all 15 of our chapters.
- [00:09:36.240]And so they're having conversations.
- [00:09:38.640]We provide t-shirts for them to wear on those first days.
- [00:09:41.220]It's again, very casual.
- [00:09:42.600]There'd be doing a lot of walking around,
- [00:09:45.570]but that's their first welcome round going to all 15.
- [00:09:49.080]And then going into philanthropy round on the 16th
- [00:09:51.270]is the first time people are kind of narrowing down
- [00:09:53.280]their choices.
- [00:09:54.113]So every night your student is gonna be taking a look
- [00:09:58.140]at the chapters that she attended
- [00:09:59.850]and making some decisions of where she is most excited
- [00:10:02.700]to go back to the next day.
- [00:10:05.250]And then the chapters are having those same conversations
- [00:10:07.770]within them too.
- [00:10:08.760]They are asking themselves,
- [00:10:10.020]which women do we wanna invite back
- [00:10:11.460]and get to know a little bit better?
- [00:10:13.080]So our hope is always that the PNMs,
- [00:10:14.940]our potential new members and the chapters
- [00:10:16.710]are choosing each other throughout this process.
- [00:10:19.110]But on the 14th, 15th, they can attend all 15.
- [00:10:22.740]And then on philanthropy round,
- [00:10:24.120]they can attend up to 10 chapters.
- [00:10:26.850]Sisterhood round is up to six chapters.
- [00:10:30.210]August 18th, preference round is up to two chapters.
- [00:10:33.540]And then we have bid day on the 19th.
- [00:10:35.160]So as you can hear me with those numbers,
- [00:10:37.080]every day they're narrowing down their choices,
- [00:10:39.630]just like chapters are at the same time.
- [00:10:42.180]I intentionally said up to 10, up to six, up to two.
- [00:10:45.720]We have lots of women who on up to 10 day
- [00:10:48.600]will maybe have six chapters that they're going back to,
- [00:10:51.180]five chapters they're going back to.
- [00:10:53.130]That is very normal.
- [00:10:54.720]Not everyone's process looks a little different.
- [00:10:57.090]Everybody's experience looks a little different,
- [00:11:00.420]but they're narrowing down their choices
- [00:11:01.860]throughout all of that.
- [00:11:03.270]I mentioned that we provide t-shirts
- [00:11:05.100]for them to wear on Monday and Tuesday.
- [00:11:07.140]We get lots of questions about what to wear.
- [00:11:10.080]It gets a little bit dressier throughout the week,
- [00:11:12.030]but we really want women to know
- [00:11:13.740]they can be their authentic selves,
- [00:11:15.540]wear whatever they feel like wearing,
- [00:11:17.880]but preference round is the most dressy.
- [00:11:20.490]I would say what you'd wear to a summer wedding
- [00:11:22.500]and then anything else in between.
- [00:11:25.740]Our best advice to your student
- [00:11:27.900]is really to keep an open mind throughout the process.
- [00:11:29.850]We have a lot of people that come thinking,
- [00:11:32.250]this is the chapter for me before they even get here,
- [00:11:34.620]or I'm only interested in these chapters.
- [00:11:36.990]We really want people to have an open mind
- [00:11:38.790]and be willing to look at all 15 of our chapters
- [00:11:40.860]because we've got great options in all of our organizations.
- [00:11:46.470]So a little bit about how to prepare.
- [00:11:48.360]Applications are gonna be live and available on June 1st.
- [00:11:51.060]You'll be able to find that on our social media,
- [00:11:52.770]find it on our website.
- [00:11:54.720]They do need to be completed on or before July 21st.
- [00:11:57.750]There is a registration cost,
- [00:11:59.820]and we will need your students' high school transcripts
- [00:12:02.160]as a part of the process.
- [00:12:04.050]If your student's living on campus,
- [00:12:05.460]they're gonna be registered for early move-in automatically,
- [00:12:07.710]like I mentioned earlier.
- [00:12:09.210]You can definitely have your student
- [00:12:10.980]follow us on social media.
- [00:12:12.090]There'll be lots of updates there,
- [00:12:13.440]lots of ways to get connected.
- [00:12:15.540]And then encourage your student
- [00:12:16.650]to join one of our Zoom informational meetings
- [00:12:18.600]over the summer.
- [00:12:19.433]I know we're hosting at least one in June and July
- [00:12:21.870]and a prep meeting in August
- [00:12:23.910]where we can answer any questions
- [00:12:25.170]that might come up for them.
- [00:12:28.470]So a little bit about our open recruitment process.
- [00:12:30.810]We typically see about 125 women
- [00:12:33.630]join the sorority community
- [00:12:36.150]through a more informal process.
- [00:12:38.040]We call it informal recruitment, open recruitment,
- [00:12:40.410]continuous open bidding.
- [00:12:41.580]It's got a lot of names for a very casual process.
- [00:12:44.880]It follows immediately after primary recruitment.
- [00:12:47.520]So those first few weeks in the fall semester,
- [00:12:49.980]usually our chapters get done
- [00:12:51.840]by about the fourth week in the semester.
- [00:12:53.790]And they start over again in the spring,
- [00:12:55.290]looking for new members in January, February.
- [00:12:58.260]Women can sign up on our website for COB.
- [00:13:01.170]All of their information is shared then
- [00:13:02.850]with any chapters that are participating
- [00:13:04.710]in open recruitment.
- [00:13:06.060]The important thing to know,
- [00:13:07.260]the difference between primary recruitment
- [00:13:09.000]is not everyone participates
- [00:13:10.800]in the open recruitment process.
- [00:13:12.840]It is only for chapters
- [00:13:13.920]that are able to recruit at the time.
- [00:13:19.590]When you join one of our chapters,
- [00:13:21.300]there are a few commitments
- [00:13:22.320]that you're making to our community.
- [00:13:23.670]And the first is time.
- [00:13:25.170]Being a member takes time
- [00:13:26.730]and you have to make sure you're able to give that.
- [00:13:28.980]So some events are required for members to attend
- [00:13:32.100]and some are optional,
- [00:13:33.210]but there's definitely gonna be a chapter once a week,
- [00:13:36.930]your new member meeting once you get started once a week
- [00:13:39.090]and other obligations
- [00:13:40.230]that are gonna come up within the chapter.
- [00:13:42.570]There's also a financial commitment.
- [00:13:45.060]Each chapter has different fees.
- [00:13:46.920]We try to be very transparent about this
- [00:13:49.660]and I've got a slide coming up
- [00:13:50.493]where we have the breakdown from last year's numbers.
- [00:13:53.490]This summer, we will have our new cost sheet available
- [00:13:56.310]on our website for people to see the numbers by chapter.
- [00:13:59.220]So like I said, we try to be very transparent
- [00:14:01.800]and upfront about the cost of joining one of our chapters
- [00:14:05.580]because there is a cost.
- [00:14:07.440]There are also chapter commitments.
- [00:14:08.940]So they have different commitments about study hours,
- [00:14:11.280]philanthropy hours, what's required of being a member.
- [00:14:15.120]And finally, we really hope this is a lifelong commitment.
- [00:14:17.580]It's more than four years.
- [00:14:18.930]You can have a whole entire alumni experience,
- [00:14:21.600]but we don't want that to scare anyone
- [00:14:24.540]from just trying it out.
- [00:14:25.710]Like see if this is a good fit, see if this is for you.
- [00:14:30.240]Here's the information about the financial commitment.
- [00:14:33.420]We've broken that down by chapters with housing facilities
- [00:14:36.570]and chapters without housing facilities.
- [00:14:38.730]There's a significant difference
- [00:14:40.050]because it does cost a lot more
- [00:14:41.580]when there's a facility involved.
- [00:14:43.530]We have this broken down by new member fee,
- [00:14:45.630]live in fee and live out fees.
- [00:14:48.210]And this is the entire cost for the entire year.
- [00:14:51.660]So if your student joins a chapter with a housing facility,
- [00:14:55.410]their new member fees average was $2,055
- [00:14:59.340]for the entire year.
- [00:15:01.140]For some, it might be heavier in the fall semester
- [00:15:03.330]than the spring semester,
- [00:15:04.380]but this gives you a brief snapshot
- [00:15:08.190]of what the financial commitment looks like
- [00:15:10.080]for joining our community.
- [00:15:11.730]Like I said, more information will be available
- [00:15:13.590]on our website this summer.
- [00:15:17.070]So I'm gonna share just a few of the common questions
- [00:15:19.440]that we get to, but if you've got more,
- [00:15:21.450]we are happy to answer questions.
- [00:15:22.950]At NSC, you can call our office,
- [00:15:24.930]you can send us an email at fsl.unl.edu.
- [00:15:28.350]We're happy to answer any questions that you might have.
- [00:15:30.750]So could you explain the live-in requirements?
- [00:15:33.600]Absolutely.
- [00:15:34.433]If your student joins a chapter with a facility,
- [00:15:36.570]there are typically live-in requirements.
- [00:15:38.880]Most women stay in the residence halls
- [00:15:41.430]or off campus their first year at the university
- [00:15:45.600]and move into their chapter their sophomore year.
- [00:15:49.560]And then some juniors live in,
- [00:15:51.030]and I always say a sprinkling of seniors
- [00:15:52.800]live in the chapter facilities,
- [00:15:55.410]but it's mostly sophomores and juniors that live in.
- [00:15:58.020]And you'll wanna ask questions
- [00:15:59.310]about these live-in requirements
- [00:16:00.660]as you're going through the recruitment process
- [00:16:02.220]to find out exactly what this looks like.
- [00:16:05.010]We often get asked about letters of recommendation
- [00:16:07.020]and are they necessary?
- [00:16:08.220]I wanna be very clear with you.
- [00:16:09.660]They are not necessary at UNL.
- [00:16:11.880]Many of our organizations have actually done away
- [00:16:14.460]with requirements around letters of recommendation.
- [00:16:17.280]If you know someone who is a member of an organization
- [00:16:19.920]and offers to write a letter, awesome.
- [00:16:22.320]Have them look up with their own international
- [00:16:24.420]or national headquarters websites
- [00:16:26.070]to find out how to give those letters.
- [00:16:29.010]We do not collect them here at the university,
- [00:16:32.580]but have them contact the website
- [00:16:34.380]and find out how they get that information.
- [00:16:36.000]But almost all of our organizations
- [00:16:38.370]have eliminated any kind of recruitment courtesy
- [00:16:41.970]that might've come from a letter of recommendation.
- [00:16:44.550]So please do not stress out you or your student
- [00:16:47.640]of trying to get letters of rec
- [00:16:48.810]for all of the organizations here.
- [00:16:50.100]It is not needed.
- [00:16:51.990]We often get asked about the dress code.
- [00:16:53.970]I talked about this a little bit earlier,
- [00:16:55.740]but it starts very casual where we provide the T-shirt
- [00:16:58.890]and they can wear whatever bottoms they want.
- [00:17:00.420]We suggest sneakers on the first day
- [00:17:02.010]because they're walking around a lot.
- [00:17:03.930]And then every day it gets a little bit more dressy
- [00:17:05.940]into preference round where it's like what you'd wear,
- [00:17:08.970]like I said, what you wear to a summer wedding.
- [00:17:11.280]We see people in dresses, sundresses, capris,
- [00:17:16.020]dress pants, skirts, like whatever
- [00:17:18.630]they're most comfortable in.
- [00:17:20.670]Any kind of shoes that they want,
- [00:17:22.140]there's no requirement that people need to wear heels.
- [00:17:24.630]Let me repeat, they're walking around a lot.
- [00:17:27.270]So we're happy to get them to wear comfortable footwear.
- [00:17:30.660]There are no, there's really no judgment
- [00:17:32.970]on what anyone decides to wear
- [00:17:34.380]throughout the recruitment process.
- [00:17:37.260]Should my student decide on her favorite chapters
- [00:17:39.480]before recruitment begins?
- [00:17:40.650]No, that is not needed because we really want them
- [00:17:43.050]to take an equal look at all 15 of our organizations
- [00:17:46.230]and find the one that's best for them.
- [00:17:48.570]Sometimes people come into recruitment
- [00:17:50.280]with some preconceived notions about our chapters
- [00:17:52.560]and they gotta make a decision for them,
- [00:17:54.660]not based on maybe people who are older than them
- [00:17:56.730]from their high school that graduated earlier.
- [00:17:59.520]And we really want people coming in
- [00:18:00.780]and making a choice that's right for them
- [00:18:02.220]and finding the chapter that matches up with their values.
- [00:18:05.520]And then finally, how can I support my daughter
- [00:18:07.410]through the process?
- [00:18:08.920]Be a good listener.
- [00:18:10.560]You know, this is the first big thing they're doing
- [00:18:12.600]if they're participating in primary recruitment.
- [00:18:14.550]And there's sometimes some heartbreak that comes
- [00:18:17.040]when they really were excited about a conversation
- [00:18:19.020]at a chapter and it just doesn't work out
- [00:18:20.550]the way that they thought.
- [00:18:21.383]They don't get invited back the next day.
- [00:18:23.460]Really encourage them to stick with the process,
- [00:18:25.530]to continue to meet chapters that are reaching out,
- [00:18:27.720]that are wanting to get them more or get to know them more.
- [00:18:30.960]And we have so many great chapters on our campus
- [00:18:33.090]and so many ways to get involved.
- [00:18:36.540]But those are the most common questions that we get.
- [00:18:38.880]As I said earlier,
- [00:18:39.720]we are happy to answer any other questions
- [00:18:41.400]that might come up.
- [00:18:42.570]I wanna thank you all for joining me today,
- [00:18:46.230]for listening to the presentation.
- [00:18:48.210]This is the panhellenicrecruitment.unl@gmail.com
- [00:18:51.630]email address.
- [00:18:52.463]That goes straight to our Vice President
- [00:18:53.940]of Recruitment Logistics, Claire,
- [00:18:56.100]who is answering all kinds of recruitment questions
- [00:18:58.230]all summer long.
- [00:18:59.400]This is also our office number, 402-472-2582.
- [00:19:03.930]So you can call our office, you can talk to me.
- [00:19:06.030]Again, I'm Leigh.
- [00:19:07.560]You can talk to anyone else on our staff
- [00:19:09.150]to answer questions about recruitment.
- [00:19:11.220]And then this QR code on the website
- [00:19:13.110]or on the page right now,
- [00:19:14.580]leads to our flow code site
- [00:19:16.110]that's also got a ton of information
- [00:19:18.120]specifically about the primary recruitment process.
- [00:19:20.850]So again, thank you so much for joining
- [00:19:24.180]and please let us know if there are any questions.
