- [00:13:09.960]as well as take classes

- [00:13:15.240]Consequently, there are a wide variety
- [00:13:18.090]of career opportunities that students may consider.
- [00:13:21.630]There is also a lot of advancement potential as well.
- [00:13:28.410]May work in corrections,
- [00:13:31.620]such as community corrections opportunities,
- [00:13:35.295]correctional casework, advancing into administrative levels
- [00:13:40.140]within correctional agencies.
- [00:13:42.180]This could be at the juvenile or the adult level.
- [00:13:44.970]Parole officers, warden.
- [00:13:50.430]Many students complete our degree
- [00:13:53.070]with the intent to continue with law school,
- [00:13:55.770]become an attorney.
- [00:13:57.900]Other areas within courts and law
- [00:14:00.090]such as court administrator, drug courts coordinator,
- [00:14:03.630]investigator in law offices, legal assistant,
- [00:14:08.100]pretrial services officer, probation officers.
- [00:14:15.000]Law enforcement is a big area of interest,
- [00:14:17.580]whether that be city, county, or state law enforcement.
- [00:14:23.100]Then, often wanting to advance into specialized divisions
- [00:14:27.450]or become detectives or investigators,
- [00:14:30.450]advance into high level administrative positions
- [00:14:34.590]such as police chiefs, sheriffs.
- [00:14:37.860]Also may want to move over
- [00:14:40.230]into federal law enforcement agencies.
- [00:14:43.590]These are typically fairly competitive,
- [00:14:45.810]so may need some experience in a state or local agency
- [00:14:50.100]prior to working in a federal law enforcement agency.
- [00:14:59.190]Victim services, this may be a crime prevention coordinator,
- [00:15:03.660]crisis center coordinator,
- [00:15:05.700]domestic violence advocate or counselor,
- [00:15:08.730]victim witness services coordinator.
- [00:15:13.800]Juvenile justice, such as a child protection service worker,
- [00:15:19.620]group home worker, juvenile detention specialist,
- [00:15:23.250]juvenile diversion specialist,
- [00:15:25.710]or advancing into administrative levels
- [00:15:28.650]within a juvenile services agency.
- [00:15:36.450]May want to do investigation within regulatory agencies.
- [00:15:40.440]These are typically state or federal agencies,
- [00:15:43.830]so may need some experience in order to move
- [00:15:47.640]into these types of investigative opportunities.
- [00:15:55.530]Private security,
- [00:15:57.300]such as loss prevention specialist or manager,
- [00:16:00.570]private investigator, private security officer or manager,
- [00:16:05.130]insurance investigator,
- [00:16:07.020]security director in an agency or a company.
- [00:16:14.252]Or may want to do advanced education
- [00:16:18.420]and do research or teach.
- [00:16:22.890]Typically, might need a master's degree or a PhD
- [00:16:26.160]for this kind of work.
- [00:16:34.260]I wanna focus on criminology
- [00:16:36.720]and criminal justice requirements
- [00:16:39.060]for the Bachelor of science on the UNL campus.
- [00:16:46.620]Students will typically within the first three semesters
- [00:16:50.760]or the first 45 credit hours include following requirements:
- [00:16:56.250]English composition courses,
- [00:16:58.980]the entry-level criminal justice courses,
- [00:17:03.540]may explore areas for a concentration or minor area,
- [00:17:09.090]and we would review math background
- [00:17:11.190]to be sure that prerequisites are met
- [00:17:14.130]for our statistics requirement.
- [00:17:19.230]This is a summary of all requirements
- [00:17:21.570]for the Bachelor of Science
- [00:17:23.130]in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
- [00:17:25.350]It's a total of 120 credit hours.
- [00:17:29.490]We also include
- [00:17:31.050]the 10 Achievement-Centered Education requirements.
- [00:17:35.970]There are nine hours
- [00:17:37.290]or three courses in English composition.
- [00:17:41.040]ACE 1 is a writing outcome.
- [00:17:43.890]So, if completing a basic English composition course,
- [00:17:48.870]ACE 1 would also be complete.
- [00:17:52.740]Social sciences, nine credit hours or three courses
- [00:17:56.310]selected from a variety of department areas,
- [00:17:59.970]two courses or seven hours in natural science.
- [00:18:03.540]One course must include a lab,
- [00:18:07.380]which would complete ACE 4,
- [00:18:09.360]the other one can be a non-lab course.
- [00:18:12.900]12 hours in humanities and fine arts.
- [00:18:17.130]Those include three ACE requirements,
- [00:18:19.920]ACE 2 is a oral communication,
- [00:18:22.620]ACE 5 is a humanities, ACE 7 is an arts.
- [00:18:26.400]The last humanities main course or fine arts
- [00:18:30.630]can complete that requirement.
- [00:18:34.410]Three hours in statistics,
- [00:18:37.410]which would complete our ACE 3,
- [00:18:40.050]which is the only quantitative
- [00:18:41.820]or math-type course required for this degree.
- [00:18:46.590]40 hours in criminology and criminal justice.
- [00:18:50.040]There are some specific required courses,
- [00:18:52.710]both at the lower and the upper division.
- [00:18:55.380]You also include several ACE courses.
- [00:18:58.740]ACE Intro Criminal Justice is an ACE 6,
- [00:19:02.130]Race, Ethnicity, and Justice is an ACE 9 diversity course,
- [00:19:07.170]and ACE 10 is a creative or scholarly product.
- [00:19:11.640]And our internship is recommended
- [00:19:14.910]and would fulfill the ACE 10 requirement in the major.
- [00:19:21.600]You'd select a concentration area of 18 hours.
- [00:19:26.340]May want to integrate an official minor within that area.
- [00:19:31.230]And 22 hours of electives.
- [00:19:35.400]Also, within that 120 hours,
- [00:19:37.470]students would include an Ethics Civics ACE 8 course.
- [00:19:46.860]To explain the concentration a little further,
- [00:19:49.200]criminology and criminal justice majors
- [00:19:51.330]are required to include a concentration in your program.
- [00:19:55.710]18 credit hours with 12 hours at the upper division,
- [00:19:59.280]300 or 400 level.
- [00:20:01.830]The concentration is like a minor,
- [00:20:04.260]but minors require specific requirements,
- [00:20:08.310]and minors are also official and recorded on the transcript
- [00:20:12.750]while concentration would not appear on the transcript.
- [00:20:17.220]In many instances, it's very easy to integrate a minor
- [00:20:20.640]into the concentration, and we can help you do that.
- [00:20:27.150]May want to choose
