Description
The Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities Conference is hosted by Rural Prosperity Nebraska and takes place over two days in a different Nebraska community each year. While focused on economic and entrepreneurial development, what sets this conference apart is the format. Instead of being in a single auditorium, each CEC session takes place inside different locally-owned businesses of the hosting community. So attendees get to not only see the city, but network with like-minded business owners, and experience the community’s culture and entrepreneurial spirit.

- [00:00:29.070]what sets this conference apart is the format.
- [00:00:31.920]It is a walking conference.
- [00:00:35.070]We invite people to a community
- [00:00:36.990]to really experience everything the community has to offer,
- [00:00:41.040]to hold sessions in small businesses,
- [00:00:44.970]and get to meet the business owners
- [00:00:47.220]and entrepreneurs in the community
- [00:00:49.080]while learning about some of the new best practices
- [00:00:52.920]around community and economic development.
- [00:00:55.800]Instead of being in a single auditorium,
- [00:00:58.140]each CEC session takes place
- [00:01:00.390]inside different locally owned businesses
- [00:01:02.520]of the hosting community.
- [00:01:04.410]So attendees get to not only see the city,
- [00:01:07.110]but they get to network with like-minded business owners,
- [00:01:10.020]and experience the community's culture
- [00:01:11.940]and entrepreneurial spirit.
- [00:01:13.800]I love the uniqueness of this conference.
- [00:01:15.960]I loved that it wasn't in the traditional setting.
- [00:01:19.530]This is what made this so unique,
- [00:01:22.080]you know, you get your downtown businesses involved,
- [00:01:25.320]you bring people to your downtown,
- [00:01:27.780]and they're going into businesses
- [00:01:29.220]that they may never step foot in.
- [00:01:32.580]And all of a sudden, after they've been down here
- [00:01:34.500]and they've experienced our community,
- [00:01:36.900]they're gonna go out and they're gonna tell others
- [00:01:38.550]about our community here.
- [00:01:39.383]The CEC Conference is an opportunity
- [00:01:41.730]to educate community members
- [00:01:43.200]on the various tools and resources available
- [00:01:45.780]to assist them in helping entrepreneurs grow
- [00:01:48.150]and prosper in their communities.
- [00:01:50.460]Local, regional, and national presenters
- [00:01:53.130]share how they found success
- [00:01:54.600]in building their entrepreneurial ecosystems.
- [00:01:57.570]They also share techniques
- [00:01:58.830]on how to increase community's potential for growth,
- [00:02:01.740]as well as quality of life and place making.
- [00:02:04.260]I went to some
- [00:02:05.280]of the economic development sessions.
- [00:02:07.770]I think it was marketing and community,
- [00:02:09.660]and that was kinda eye-opening,
- [00:02:12.240]because I never understood how people work together
- [00:02:15.660]in our community to market to other communities
- [00:02:19.050]to encourage people to move here, and work here,
- [00:02:22.020]and enjoy life here.
- [00:02:23.910]While conference attendees benefit
- [00:02:25.440]from networking and being inside
- [00:02:27.180]innovative business settings,
- [00:02:29.010]the local business owners
- [00:02:30.570]benefit from the influx of new customers.
- [00:02:33.180]To encourage people to shop local,
- [00:02:36.155]'cause you need to go into that business
- [00:02:38.310]and you're able to touch, and feel, and taste,
- [00:02:40.530]and smell whatever they're offering,
- [00:02:43.320]versus sitting at your computer
- [00:02:45.450]and ordering things off of Amazon.
- [00:02:47.910]There is so much more out there for us to learn
- [00:02:51.990]and how we can help support each other.
- [00:02:54.690]The 2023 conference
- [00:02:56.040]will take place June 8th through 9th in Valentine,
- [00:02:58.950]with the tagline that people, plus places,
- [00:03:01.500]plus economy, equals prosperity.
- [00:03:03.630]If you wanna bring this to your community,
- [00:03:05.970]if you have the opportunity,
- [00:03:07.530]I would tell any community that's asked to do this
- [00:03:11.040]or be the host to say yes.
- [00:03:12.780]At the end of the day, you're gonna be really glad
- [00:03:14.760]that you brought it to your community.
