- [00:00:05.305]Hi, everyone.
- [00:00:06.056]I’m Kaleb Briscoe
- [00:00:07.457]I received my Ph.D.
- [00:00:09.743]Doctor of Philosophy
- [00:00:10.860]here at the University
- [00:00:11.995]of Nebraska-Lincoln
- [00:00:13.947]in Educational Leadership
- [00:00:15.648]in Higher Education.
- [00:00:17.067]Learned many different things,
- [00:00:18.651]had a lot of amazing opportunities
- [00:00:22.072]as a research assistant
- [00:00:23.239]with the Department
- [00:00:23.840]of Educational Administration,
- [00:00:26.376]got exposed to
- [00:00:28.495]and was able to really
- [00:00:29.596]just elevate my research,
- [00:00:31.031]work with neat faculty,
- [00:00:33.033]learn about the faculty process,
- [00:00:35.218]i.e. how I am now a faculty member.
- [00:00:38.000](laugh)
- [00:00:38.571]So lots of different
- [00:00:39.389]things and exposures.
- [00:00:41.041]So my research interests,
- [00:00:42.358]while I was at UNL
- [00:00:43.727]primarily focused on
- [00:00:44.811]understanding issues of race and racism
- [00:00:47.881]for Minoritized populations
- [00:00:49.833]thinking about particularly
- [00:00:52.318]campus racial climate issues
- [00:00:55.071]and how issues of race
- [00:00:56.840]and racism influence
- [00:00:58.191]dynamics in perceptions
- [00:00:59.692]of individuals
- [00:01:00.376]within campus environments.
- [00:01:02.395]I would definitely say
- [00:01:04.164]some of the biggest things
- [00:01:05.065]I took away from my experiences
- [00:01:07.951]was primarily the sense to
- [00:01:10.336]go over and beyond for students.
- [00:01:11.938]And so when I think of now
- [00:01:12.922]serving as a faculty member,
- [00:01:14.491]helping my students.
- [00:01:15.475]I saw, you know,
- [00:01:16.826]amazing faculty like
- [00:01:18.478]Deryl Hatch-Tocaimaza
- [00:01:19.829]who was my chair
- [00:01:21.214]or Christina Yao
- [00:01:22.048]who’s no longer with the department.
- [00:01:24.451]But all of these faculty members
- [00:01:26.152]mirroring
- [00:01:27.587]and caring for me
- [00:01:28.822]in very real and passionate ways,
- [00:01:31.307]and I wanted to do that
- [00:01:33.109]as a faculty member.
- [00:01:34.410]And I do, do that as a faculty member.
- [00:01:36.179]I would say my students would argue that.
- [00:01:38.548]So just
- [00:01:39.415]the love and support that you have
- [00:01:43.219]really helps drive
- [00:01:44.537]the process and helps
- [00:01:46.322]you to really elevate yourself.
- [00:01:48.057]I am a huge advocate for Nebraska
- [00:01:50.877]EDAD department.
- [00:01:52.195]You should come here.
- [00:01:53.396]You will get to work with phenomenal
- [00:01:56.032]faculty members, staff members
- [00:01:58.201]who will celebrate you and help
- [00:02:00.386]you elevate the work that you want to do.
- [00:02:02.222]So come enjoy yourselves.
- [00:02:04.824]Go Big Red!
