- [00:00:05.105]and I am the clinic coordinator here.
- [00:00:07.173]And we are going to do a tour of our
- [00:00:09.476]newly remodeled
- [00:00:11.011]Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic.
- [00:00:13.880]The first area we’re going to look at
- [00:00:15.482]is our lobby area.
- [00:00:17.183]This is our reception area,
- [00:00:18.618]our client check-in area.
- [00:00:20.487]Um, and lots of great seating.
- [00:00:29.662]This is our adult hallway,
- [00:00:31.364]where we serve our clients
- [00:00:33.433]with - uh - that are school-age
- [00:00:35.068]or adult , uh, populations,
- [00:00:37.270]and we have different configurations
- [00:00:39.339]and sizes of rooms and furniture.
- [00:00:41.641]So, let’s look at one of them.
- [00:00:46.780]This is considered
- [00:00:47.514]one of our group rooms,
- [00:00:49.315]uh, where we hold
- [00:00:51.317]a memory workshop.
- [00:00:52.886]We hold aphasia group.
- [00:00:54.988]Um, we hold book clubs here,
- [00:00:57.190]so we’ve got some nice technology
- [00:00:59.492]and a variety of seating
- [00:01:00.994]spaces involved.
- [00:01:04.631]Then we’re going to walk across here.
- [00:01:06.466]This is one of our
- [00:01:07.667]very basic rooms.
- [00:01:11.471]A number of our rooms
- [00:01:12.672]have
- [00:01:13.273]this, just a standard sized
- [00:01:14.841]table and chairs.
- [00:01:15.842]All of our rooms have a
- [00:01:17.277]a whiteboard, a marker board.
- [00:01:19.446]This is another one of our rooms,
- [00:01:20.914]adult-, school-age/adult rooms,
- [00:01:22.449]just to show
- [00:01:23.116]some of the variety
- [00:01:24.517]that we have.
- [00:01:28.455]Then, over here,
- [00:01:29.122]we have another
- [00:01:29.923]school-age/adult room.
- [00:01:31.024]This one’s a little bit different.
- [00:01:32.192]It’s a little bit bigger.
- [00:01:33.460]And we do have
- [00:01:34.160]several of these adjustable tables.
- [00:01:36.429]Um, they’re controlled this
- [00:01:37.697]with just a button.
- [00:01:39.466]The tables can raise
- [00:01:40.700]up or down
- [00:01:42.001]um, to accommodate different
- [00:01:43.870]ages, sizes of individuals.
- [00:01:45.638]This might be a room
- [00:01:47.073]where we would have an individual in a wheelchair
- [00:01:49.275]um, use this space
- [00:01:50.710]so we could adjust the table height
- [00:01:52.011]to be appropriate for them as well.
- [00:01:54.247]This is our pediatric hallway
- [00:01:55.915]where we serve all of our
- [00:01:57.584]children and all of our child clients
- [00:01:59.752]and we’ve got some different sizes
- [00:02:01.821]of furniture
- [00:02:02.589]and room configurations here.
- [00:02:04.691]This is one of our pediatric rooms.
- [00:02:06.159]It’s a little bit bigger in size
- [00:02:07.794]so for those, um, of our
- [00:02:09.529]children that need a little more space to move about,
- [00:02:12.198]this is a room
- [00:02:13.299]that we use often.
- [00:02:15.435]And over here
- [00:02:16.336]is another pediatric room.
- [00:02:17.704]A little bit smaller
- [00:02:18.938]and we’ve got
- [00:02:19.639]a little bit even smaller
- [00:02:21.407]table and chairs in that room.
- [00:02:23.643]This is our resource room.
- [00:02:24.944]And it is a wonderful space
- [00:02:26.579]that we have.
- [00:02:27.046]This is where we house
- [00:02:28.047]all of our
- [00:02:29.215]client therapy materials.
- [00:02:30.617]We have lots of
- [00:02:31.751]child-based materials,
- [00:02:33.019]as you can see –
- [00:02:33.920]books, toys,
- [00:02:35.255]all kinds of things.

- [00:02:37.223]Our students can reserve materials,
- [00:02:39.292]check them out,
- [00:02:40.527]reserve different spaces in our building.

- [00:02:44.063]we’ve got lots of assessments
- [00:02:46.032]in, uh, speech pathology,

- [00:02:51.371]all different types of assessments here.

- [00:02:55.308]for our graduate students.

- [00:03:13.826]Communication Lab.
- [00:03:15.628]Um, in here, we have
- [00:03:16.696]a lot of technology.
- [00:03:19.132]We’ve got another adjustable table.
- [00:03:21.201]Um, we’ve got all kinds of
- [00:03:23.069]we’ve got adapted toys,
- [00:03:25.038]we’ve got different switches,
- [00:03:26.806]we’ve got
- [00:03:27.640]low-tech and high-tech
- [00:03:29.142]options over here.
- [00:03:31.044]We have a number of
- [00:03:32.378]iPads,
- [00:03:33.813]dedicated
- [00:03:35.248]AAC systems.
- [00:03:36.516]We have a couple of
- [00:03:37.450]eye-gaze systems.
- [00:03:38.952]Um, some of these are ours
- [00:03:40.753]that we own,
- [00:03:41.387]some of them
- [00:03:42.188]we have on loan –
- [00:03:43.189]long-term loan –
- [00:03:44.424]from the different companies.
- [00:03:46.192]This is actually our, um,
- [00:03:48.428]history, historical cabinet.
- [00:03:49.996]We have a number of
- [00:03:50.863]old systems in here
- [00:03:52.398]that kind of show where we’ve come from,
- [00:03:54.500]so that’s kind of always interesting to see.
- [00:03:56.803]We’ve got a variety of
- [00:03:58.037]mounting systems
- [00:03:59.105]for individuals in wheelchairs.
- [00:04:01.107]Um, in this room
- [00:04:02.375]we might use this for
- [00:04:04.043]an evaluation
- [00:04:05.712]of an individual who is needing
- [00:04:07.847]to explore different AAC systems.
- [00:04:09.749]We could use this room
- [00:04:10.950]for therapy or treatment sessions.
- [00:04:13.052]And students also use this room
- [00:04:15.288]for studying purposes.
- [00:04:17.090]And during their AAC class,
- [00:04:19.259]they come into the lab
- [00:04:20.360]to check out on different types of equipment.
- [00:04:22.528]So it’s a very
- [00:04:23.363]multi-purpose room
- [00:04:24.264]that we use for a number of different reasons.
- [00:04:26.399]This is our motor skills room
- [00:04:28.368]or our gym.
- [00:04:29.902]And we’ve got
- [00:04:31.704]we just got in
- [00:04:33.339]our sensory swing.
- [00:04:34.807]So, we’re very excited about that.
- [00:04:36.376]We have actually three different swings.
- [00:04:37.977]This is one of them.
- [00:04:39.212]So, we have three different swings
- [00:04:40.580]that we can use with different
- [00:04:41.948]ages, different sized individuals.
- [00:04:44.417]Um, and you can see the basketball hoop.
- [00:04:46.019]We also have some other materials
- [00:04:47.687]that we use in here –
- [00:04:48.655]yoga balls, scooters,
- [00:04:50.356]um, little slides,
- [00:04:52.558]um, all kinds of things.
- [00:04:53.593]This has been a very popular room
- [00:04:55.161]and very well-received
- [00:04:56.763]and well-used.
- [00:04:58.464]This is
- [00:04:59.399]another one of our
- [00:05:00.300]recent additions that we
- [00:05:01.701]just opened up.
- [00:05:02.602]Um, this is our life skills room
- [00:05:04.304]or our kitchen.
- [00:05:05.805]And we have lots of activity in here.
- [00:05:08.441]We have a full kitchen, appliances,
- [00:05:10.743]um, this is another room where we bring
- [00:05:12.712]individual clients to
- [00:05:15.148]do all sorts of
- [00:05:16.015]functional life skills activities –
- [00:05:17.550]cooking, cleaning,
- [00:05:18.885]laundry.
- [00:05:19.552]This would also be
- [00:05:20.553]another great room
- [00:05:22.088]for groups as well,
- [00:05:23.690]which we are using it for.
- [00:05:25.458]This is considered
- [00:05:26.326]our motor speech laboratory.
- [00:05:28.094]So, it’s a couple of rooms.
- [00:05:29.729]This is a spot
- [00:05:30.630]that is used more for research,
- [00:05:32.665]um, has seating areas,
- [00:05:34.300]it also has some equipment.
- [00:05:36.202]But when we go into this room,
- [00:05:37.837]we’ve got a lot of equipment in here,
- [00:05:43.343]as you can see,
- [00:05:47.647]again for working more on mo-
- [00:05:48.881]motor aspects of, of
- [00:05:50.516]of speech and
- [00:05:51.684]speech and language and communication.
- [00:05:54.087]This is our observation room.
- [00:05:55.922]This is where
- [00:05:57.690]family members,
- [00:05:59.192]parents,
- [00:05:59.992]even our undergraduate students,
- [00:06:02.228]could sit here
- [00:06:03.596]at one of these six computers,
- [00:06:05.131]and observe some of our sessions
- [00:06:07.300]going on.
- [00:06:08.167]Oftentimes, family members,
- [00:06:09.902]parents, loved ones
- [00:06:11.471]may actually sit
- [00:06:12.505]within the therapy room
- [00:06:13.973]where the session is going on,
- [00:06:15.274]but this is another option.
- [00:06:17.043]Uh, we tried to make this room as private
- [00:06:18.711]and confidential as possible
- [00:06:20.213]so everybody has their own space,
- [00:06:22.048]headphones, um, the dividers.
- [00:06:24.417]Um, so yeah, so this,
- [00:06:25.585]this is our
- [00:06:26.185]considered our observation room.
