- [00:00:05.280]Well, good evening everyone,
- [00:00:07.500]and welcome to Husker Home 101.
- [00:00:12.060]My name is Kayla Tupper.
- [00:00:13.350]I am the Interim Director of Admissions,
- [00:00:16.200]and on behalf of the Office of Admissions
- [00:00:18.270]along with University Housing and Dining,
- [00:00:21.000]thank you for allowing us into your home tonight.
- [00:00:25.080]We hope that after tonight,
- [00:00:26.730]you'll be able to see yourself
- [00:00:28.110]in your new home this upcoming fall.
- [00:00:31.830]Now, before we get started, just a few items.
- [00:00:34.770]So this is a webinar format,
- [00:00:36.480]so if you do have questions tonight,
- [00:00:38.850]please use that Q&A function that you have on Zoom.
- [00:00:43.980]We have multiple staff members in the room here tonight
- [00:00:47.100]from Housing and Dining
- [00:00:48.570]who will be able to answer those questions.
- [00:00:50.910]Now, some of the questions
- [00:00:51.780]we'll wanna potentially answer in real time,
- [00:00:55.301]so we might not get to all of your questions right away
- [00:00:58.200]'cause we just wanna be able to answer those questions
- [00:00:59.880]for the whole entire room and not just you.
- [00:01:02.940]So we might take some questions here and there
- [00:01:05.220]as the presenters go through.
- [00:01:07.530]Now, as admitted students, hopefully all admitted,
- [00:01:10.560]we kinda wanna get an idea who's actually in room today.
- [00:01:14.520]So I'm about to release a poll,
- [00:01:16.710]and I just need to know where you all at
- [00:01:18.690]in this whole entire college decision process.
- [00:01:22.800]So you're gonna have three options submit.
- [00:01:25.110]The first option is just, I'm admitted to Nebraska, period.
- [00:01:29.430]So you've been admitted,
- [00:01:30.360]that's as far as you are in the process.
- [00:01:33.300]The other option could be,
- [00:01:35.250]I'm admitted and I've paid my deposit.
- [00:01:37.680]So you really strongly are considering Nebraska,
- [00:01:41.070]you've been admitted, you've paid that deposit.
- [00:01:43.530]And the third and final option is,
- [00:01:45.720]I've been admitted, I've paid my deposit,
- [00:01:48.960]and I've submitted my housing contract,
- [00:01:50.700]I just wanna know a little bit more
- [00:01:51.900]about what this whole entire process is like.
- [00:01:54.420]So I just started that status check poll,
- [00:01:57.360]so if you could all submit where you're at
- [00:01:59.220]in this whole entire decision process,
- [00:02:01.230]it will just allow us to get a better understanding
- [00:02:03.270]of where you're all at
- [00:02:04.890]and what questions we might be anticipating
- [00:02:07.267]to answer this poll on this evening.
- [00:02:10.680]Now I do wanna say that this session
- [00:02:12.210]will hopefully end around eight o'clock, one full hour.
- [00:02:16.020]We do have our last men's basketball game playing tonight
- [00:02:20.430]at the Bank, the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
- [00:02:23.400]So hopefully we'll get done at eight o'clock
- [00:02:25.260]so that way we could all enjoy another Husker win tonight.
- [00:02:30.210]But at this time, I'd like to introduce
- [00:02:32.550]our Executive Director of Housing and Dining Services.
- [00:02:36.060]Lucas Novotny, go ahead and kick us off.
- [00:02:39.090]Well, welcome everyone,
- [00:02:41.340]and let me add my welcome's and my thank you's
- [00:02:43.830]and gratitude to Kayla's.
- [00:02:45.600]I might not be as excited as Kayla is
- [00:02:48.090]'cause that's pretty hard to beat.
- [00:02:49.830]However, internally in my heart,
- [00:02:52.530]I am equally as excited to see and be with you tonight
- [00:02:56.010]to talk a little bit about your next part of your journey
- [00:02:58.860]and how you might see yourself as a Husker.
- [00:03:01.710]I'm looking at the poll here and it's super awesome for us
- [00:03:04.980]to understand where you are in this process,
- [00:03:08.250]and I think that myself and my esteemed colleague,
- [00:03:11.670]Dr. Matt Nelson, can take you where you need to be
- [00:03:15.507]and answer those questions.
- [00:03:16.830]We also, as Kayla suggested, have a ton of people,
- [00:03:22.440]experts in the background here
- [00:03:24.210]ready to answer questions for you,
- [00:03:26.160]and so it's sort of our commitment
- [00:03:27.990]that no question will go unanswered here tonight.
- [00:03:31.470]We'll come up with a way to get you,
- [00:03:34.260]those of the 239 people who are with us tonight,
- [00:03:37.770]we'll get you an answer.
- [00:03:38.790]But I always do this,
- [00:03:39.690]and Kayla, if you could turn the screen,
- [00:03:41.010]I always start talking before I formally introduce myself.
- [00:03:44.370]It's one of those things
- [00:03:45.203]that my grandma gets so mad at me for.
- [00:03:47.310]But I'm Lucas Novotny,
- [00:03:48.450]I serve as the Executive Director of Housing and Dining,
- [00:03:51.990]as Kayla said.
- [00:03:53.850]I'm super excited.
- [00:03:54.990]I, like you, am still new to the institution,
- [00:03:58.530]so you are exploring your part of this journey,
- [00:04:01.890]I just began my journey at the institution
- [00:04:04.440]and so I'm excited to welcome, in many ways,
- [00:04:07.710]my first class back to our residence halls.
- [00:04:11.070]And I'll let Matt Nelson, my esteemed colleague,
- [00:04:13.230]introduce himself
- [00:04:15.060]as he'll be part of this show with me tonight.
- [00:04:19.110]Thanks, Lucas. Welcome, everyone.
- [00:04:20.790]My name is Matt Nelson,
- [00:04:21.750]I serve as the Director of Residence Life,
- [00:04:24.090]and on behalf of all of Housing and Dining,
- [00:04:26.010]our full-time staff and our student staff too,
- [00:04:28.800]we're just so delighted
- [00:04:29.820]that you're choosing to spend your evening with us
- [00:04:32.310]and hopefully we'll convince you
- [00:04:34.730]of all the wonderful reasons
- [00:04:36.090]why Nebraska is where you want to be next year.
- [00:04:39.030]So Lucas, I'll kick it back to you. We can get rolling here.
- [00:04:42.600]Great. Kayla, if you could.
- [00:04:45.720]As any good student affairs professional would do,
- [00:04:48.570]educator by trade and by heart,
- [00:04:50.820]we want to, as Kayla suggested,
- [00:04:52.470]sort of outline what we're attempting to do tonight.
- [00:04:55.680]We're gonna scratch the surface
- [00:04:57.300]really of a lot of things about this residential experience.
- [00:05:00.870]We'll do our best to answer all the questions.
- [00:05:03.180]Basically when you leave, you'll know a little bit about,
- [00:05:05.340]hopefully you know more about the offerings
- [00:05:07.650]that we at the university offer to you,
- [00:05:09.900]and you'll know about your next steps.
- [00:05:12.840]Many of you, I think, 41% of you,
- [00:05:15.480]are sort of in that boat where you're just like,
- [00:05:17.250]I just wanna learn more.
- [00:05:18.120]I'm just excited to be here and I wanna learn more.
- [00:05:21.510]That's great.
- [00:05:22.343]And many of the other 59% collectively,
- [00:05:25.920]you are going to be in that part where you're like,
- [00:05:28.230]I need to get in there,
- [00:05:30.196]I need to take my next step
- [00:05:32.280]in the part of this application journey,
- [00:05:33.900]and we're gonna help you do that tonight.
- [00:05:36.330]So kind of the formal content, if you will,
- [00:05:39.150]from my point of view.
- [00:05:40.800]If you could, Kayla.
- [00:05:44.292]I wanna talk to you about why you might live on campus,
- [00:05:47.640]and first and foremost,
- [00:05:49.380]and kind of how we talk about it here, it's just what we do.
- [00:05:52.680]We believe in this residential experience.
- [00:05:55.170]All first year students live on campus with us
- [00:05:58.230]and we believe that we can provide an exemplary experience
- [00:06:02.880]for you or your students on campus.
- [00:06:06.990]I could talk to the parents in the room
- [00:06:09.270]until I'm blue in the face
- [00:06:11.310]about how your students would be more successful.
- [00:06:16.680]I could spout statistics about less likely to drop out,
- [00:06:21.720]I could talk about retention statistics,
- [00:06:23.790]I could talk to you about the fact
- [00:06:25.320]that you're gonna be more academically prepared
- [00:06:28.560]and you're gonna persist to graduation at higher rates.
- [00:06:32.610]I could talk to you about the fact
- [00:06:33.810]that we're gonna provide you leadership opportunities,
- [00:06:36.180]and those who live with us in the residence hall
- [00:06:38.070]are more engaged in those leadership opportunities.
- [00:06:40.350]I could talk to you until...
- [00:06:41.910]This is what I do.
- [00:06:42.750]We could talk and talk and talk
- [00:06:44.610]about how this idea of living on campus
- [00:06:46.620]is going to prepare you for your next step
- [00:06:49.110]in your educational journey.
- [00:06:50.700]But just sort of bottom line up front,
- [00:06:52.320]we know that if you live with us,
- [00:06:54.300]you'll be more successful than those who don't.
- [00:06:56.880]And again, it's just what we do,
- [00:06:59.130]we believe in this experience
- [00:07:01.380]and we're excited that you want to explore that with us.
- [00:07:04.980]So how you might explore that, you might think,
- [00:07:07.410]well, what does it look like to live on campus?
- [00:07:09.720]Where might I be?
- [00:07:11.614]And if I will show you a little bit
- [00:07:13.800]that's on our website about our housing options here,
- [00:07:16.950]the majority of our students will live
- [00:07:18.630]in a traditional style residence hall.
- [00:07:21.150]It's in many ways what you think about
- [00:07:24.270]when you think about a residence hall.
- [00:07:26.130]You and a roommate living on a vibrant community
- [00:07:28.860]down the halls,
- [00:07:29.693]a community restroom where you're gonna meet
- [00:07:31.380]all of your newest best friends in many ways.
- [00:07:36.720]The old student affairs professional here, right.
- [00:07:38.910]You see the gray in the beard,
- [00:07:40.320]a little bit grizzled and seasoned.
- [00:07:42.300]That professional here believes in this experience,
- [00:07:45.570]believes in this idea
- [00:07:46.560]that the traditional hall is where it's at.
- [00:07:49.500]It's where you are going to get the most
- [00:07:52.590]out of your college of experience.
- [00:07:54.150]Folks are going to know you,
- [00:07:55.800]you're gonna know your roommates,
- [00:07:56.940]you're gonna know you're community mates.
- [00:07:59.460]It's an great example of what college is in many ways.
- [00:08:05.490]But we also know that there are many students out there
- [00:08:07.500]who living on a community floor is,
- [00:08:11.220]whoa, I have never had a roommate before.
- [00:08:14.416]It's just me and my siblings at home
- [00:08:16.020]and we each have our own room, we understand that too.
- [00:08:19.320]And we understand that you might desire
- [00:08:21.360]a little bit more of a privacy and a private accommodation.
- [00:08:24.810]So we do offer a balance of suite style hall accommodations.
- [00:08:30.780]We offer two and four person suites,
- [00:08:33.961]or four person suites, excuse me,
- [00:08:38.633]two in four bedroom units.
- [00:08:39.660]Geezo Petes, I cannot talk.
- [00:08:41.820]I'm sad that this is being recorded.
- [00:08:44.520]So when you are thinking about a two bedroom suite,
- [00:08:49.230]it's you and a roommate, and you and another suite mate,
- [00:08:52.020]sharing a common area, a common bedroom,
- [00:08:55.560]a common living room with a kitchenette and a bathroom.
- [00:08:59.490]So that offers you a little bit more privacy,
- [00:09:01.590]but also as Matt will talk to you
- [00:09:03.360]kind of about the idea of living on campus
- [00:09:06.090]that does offer you or challenge you in different ways.
- [00:09:09.990]Potentials that you have to clean your own bathroom,
- [00:09:12.330]that you have to attend
- [00:09:13.650]to some of those suite style roommate configuration
- [00:09:18.540]and discussions that your traditional hall mates
- [00:09:21.750]might not have to.
- [00:09:23.430]Also, we know that we want students
- [00:09:25.350]to get outside of their rooms and get involved in our halls
- [00:09:27.750]and Matt will talk to you about that.
- [00:09:29.340]But we know that some folks in suite style accommodations
- [00:09:33.180]have to push themselves just more
- [00:09:35.310]to get outside of that suite community
- [00:09:38.010]and get to know folks in their hall and in their community.
- [00:09:43.260]I do want to call out here quickly that our students,
- [00:09:46.530]if you choose to live with us, you may do so,
- [00:09:48.780]you may continue to live with us,
- [00:09:50.130]and we would welcome that opportunity
- [00:09:51.900]to house you for two, three, four years
- [00:09:53.940]while you're at the university.
- [00:09:56.790]And students who come back will have the opportunity
- [00:09:59.010]to live in an apartment style hall
- [00:10:01.230]where we have two and four person apartments.
- [00:10:03.960]So I did wanna call that out
- [00:10:04.830]that that's an option that we provide
- [00:10:07.230]in our housing accommodations and our housing stock.
- [00:10:10.260]As Kayla just dropped in the chat, so you can click on it,
- [00:10:12.990]but it's on the bottom of the screen.
- [00:10:14.400]Our housing options can be...
- [00:10:16.080]We're gonna reference our webpage a lot tonight.
- [00:10:18.300]So just click on that link, tool around, scroll around,
- [00:10:22.050]hopefully we can answer any questions
- [00:10:24.330]about your hall on our webpage.
- [00:10:26.610]So I would direct you there.
- [00:10:29.670]But one of our learning outcomes is, what next?
- [00:10:31.860]As a lot of folks, right,
- [00:10:34.350]that idea of 41% is kind of in that admitted, paid,
- [00:10:37.770]submitted the housing contract.
- [00:10:40.260]Great. You are in that priority one bucket.
- [00:10:44.910]You're in that area, you're pre April 5th,
- [00:10:47.880]you're sitting there ready to...
- [00:10:52.590]You have nothing else to do other than to learn
- [00:10:54.630]and get excited about your next steps.
- [00:10:59.610]On April 5th, the roommate finder opens.
- [00:11:03.600]So that's a participatory process that we like to say
- [00:11:07.710]that you have to go in and do something.
- [00:11:11.490]You have to go in and say,
- [00:11:13.110]hey, my buddy Matt here on the screen,
- [00:11:15.810]he and I met through our admissions process,
- [00:11:18.390]we would like to room together.
- [00:11:20.610]I don't know why Matt would wanna do that with me,
- [00:11:22.350]I'm a pretty tough roommate.
- [00:11:24.210]But we'd have to have mutual match.
- [00:11:26.520]So I would say I'd like to live with Matt,
- [00:11:28.500]and Matt would say he'd like to live with me,
- [00:11:30.060]and that match happens in the portal.
- [00:11:31.920]A lot of our students would do that type of scenario
- [00:11:35.820]in the roommate finder.
- [00:11:37.680]Another way is that students might say,
- [00:11:39.990]hey, I don't know anybody,
- [00:11:41.970]and I'd like to take the edge off the roommate experience,
- [00:11:45.240]is what I like to say.
- [00:11:46.380]I'd like to meet somebody,
- [00:11:47.460]I'd like to maybe meet somebody with similar interests,
- [00:11:50.160]I'd like to search for folks.
- [00:11:52.590]That's where you do that as well,
- [00:11:54.390]where you can establish your profile,
- [00:11:57.360]ask and search for folks
- [00:12:03.570]who have also participated in roommate search,
- [00:12:06.330]and then maybe start to ask them
- [00:12:08.700]if they would like to live with you
- [00:12:10.170]and have that mutual match process.
- [00:12:11.910]Or you might say, hey, that's not for me.
- [00:12:14.700]I sort of want the system match.
- [00:12:17.310]I don't love to say, hey, go random.
- [00:12:22.530]But the system matches what we like to say,
- [00:12:25.980]you know, the system is going to match you
- [00:12:28.320]based on those profile questions
- [00:12:32.277]and find you a mutual a close match.
- [00:12:35.700]It's not perfect,
- [00:12:36.533]but it is a great way to start the conversation
- [00:12:39.810]of a roommate relationship.
- [00:12:42.330]And then on your screen,
- [00:12:44.340]you see roommate finder will close on May 10th,
- [00:12:47.790]and then the room selection process will open on June 1st
- [00:12:51.210]and that's when you actually go in and select your room.
- [00:12:54.808]I see some questions already sort of on the chat
- [00:12:59.400]about like the process and when do I select certain things.
- [00:13:04.740]During this phase three
- [00:13:06.150]is when you would select your bed height,
- [00:13:08.160]is when you would select your meal plan,
- [00:13:10.050]that's what happens in that final stage of our process.
- [00:13:15.180]I do like to throw out here, just so that we're transparent,
- [00:13:19.380]there is an exemption process to live off campus.
- [00:13:23.850]Even though we know that we are a residential campus
- [00:13:26.130]and all of our students live on campus,
- [00:13:27.690]there are a few considerations
- [00:13:29.160]in which we would allow you to not live with us on campus,
- [00:13:33.840]and that can be found on our website as well.
- [00:13:36.090]And there's a process that outlines that exemption process
- [00:13:38.730]and we would encourage you to go there.
- [00:13:39.990]Kayla just dropped it in the chat for you.
- [00:13:44.850]I get talking really, really fast about the process
- [00:13:47.430]and I know that we get a lot of procedural questions
- [00:13:50.460]in the chat.
- [00:13:51.750]Kate and Keith are going to do their best
- [00:13:53.610]to answer some of those questions for you.
- [00:13:55.590]They'll tag the ones that we wanna answer live
- [00:13:58.680]and we'll come back to those.
- [00:14:00.030]Matt's gonna talk to you a little bit more
- [00:14:01.590]about some of that stuff that you don't always hear about,
- [00:14:05.010]you hear about the process,
- [00:14:06.030]but talk about life in the residence halls
- [00:14:08.430]and all that other community
- [00:14:11.010]that currently creates these halls into homes.
- [00:14:13.890]Matt, if you could.
- [00:14:15.900]Yeah, you bet. Thank you, Lucas.
- [00:14:17.550]I am excited to share more
- [00:14:19.050]about what you can expect after you move-in.
- [00:14:21.330]So I'd like to tell you first
- [00:14:23.640]that living on campus in one of our residence halls,
- [00:14:26.490]it's more than just a roof over your head.
- [00:14:28.560]It's a place that hopefully you come to call home
- [00:14:31.110]or at least a home away from home
- [00:14:33.270]where you'll be surrounded with folks
- [00:14:34.890]of similar interests and goals
- [00:14:36.630]and you'll find supportive staff and resources
- [00:14:39.180]to help you thrive.
- [00:14:41.550]You know, this experience is one
- [00:14:43.740]where I believe you'll find a sense of community.
- [00:14:46.530]I was recently sitting with some students having dinner
- [00:14:49.050]and we were talking about
- [00:14:50.670]how this might be the only time in your life
- [00:14:52.650]that you'll be in this position,
- [00:14:54.150]that you have an opportunity to live near
- [00:14:58.020]and interact with folks
- [00:14:59.070]who are going through what you're going through.
- [00:15:01.200]They're at the same stage in life,
- [00:15:03.300]have similar interests and goals
- [00:15:05.220]and, you know, that is really rang true for me.
- [00:15:09.330]The folks who I live near or around
- [00:15:11.760]are at different points in their life.
- [00:15:12.990]So I do think that this opportunity
- [00:15:14.820]presents a unique opportunity for you to explore,
- [00:15:19.500]and really on campus housing is a natural place
- [00:15:21.810]for you to meet others and find friends.
- [00:15:24.450]You're close to the resources, the events, activities,
- [00:15:28.020]and really, I guess,
- [00:15:29.550]all of that to say building a support network around you
- [00:15:32.490]is key to your success in college.
- [00:15:35.910]Sometimes words speak not quite as loud as the images
- [00:15:41.070]or the things that you actually see.
- [00:15:42.780]And so we presented a couple different pictures up here
- [00:15:45.030]for you to kind of see what life is like in our halls.
- [00:15:48.210]Each community is a bit different,
- [00:15:50.370]kind of based on the building style and layout
- [00:15:52.830]that Lucas was mentioning a little bit before.
- [00:15:55.590]So when he was talking about traditional versus suite,
- [00:15:59.160]certainly each of those communities
- [00:16:00.870]feels a little different.
- [00:16:02.550]In a suite style accommodation,
- [00:16:04.290]you might find really close connections
- [00:16:06.570]with the other three individuals who share your suite
- [00:16:09.870]and you might not know the folks three doors down as well.
- [00:16:13.980]Inversely, if you're living in say, Abel Hall,
- [00:16:16.470]where it's more traditional style layout,
- [00:16:18.630]you might know a good chunk of your floormates
- [00:16:20.760]because you choose to leave your door open
- [00:16:23.377]and you kinda walk down the hall
- [00:16:26.520]and see who you can catch before you go to dinner
- [00:16:28.530]and see if they wanna join you.
- [00:16:30.720]So if you were to ask Lucas and I, you know, gosh,
- [00:16:34.170]I think that traditional style the first year
- [00:16:36.930]would really be a good kind of entry,
- [00:16:39.690]a good way to meet folks.
- [00:16:41.610]But the suite style is also a perfectly fine option
- [00:16:44.850]and you might just have to work a little bit harder.
- [00:16:47.220]Despite all of that,
- [00:16:48.660]there are many constants across the communities.
- [00:16:51.750]You can count on educational and social opportunities,
- [00:16:54.690]whether that be experiences or events.
- [00:16:57.390]You're gonna have chances to have fun,
- [00:16:59.400]but hopefully also explore some topics
- [00:17:01.650]to expand your understanding outside of the classroom.
- [00:17:05.220]So as you kind of look at the pictures on the screen,
- [00:17:08.010]if you're looking at kind of the bottom left,
- [00:17:10.230]you're seeing one of our big red welcome events,
- [00:17:13.140]one of our block parties.
- [00:17:14.580]This was one of the indoor activities.
- [00:17:16.470]This is grocery bingo,
- [00:17:18.600]as you can see lots of folks buying
- [00:17:20.010]for that coveted ramen pack.
- [00:17:23.820]But we also do large scale events like comedians.
- [00:17:28.200]Our Residence Hall Association is bringing in a comedian
- [00:17:30.810]to entertain residential students here in the coming months.
- [00:17:35.640]But those are really large events.
- [00:17:37.350]Some of those big events are a little overwhelming.
- [00:17:39.360]So we also do a lot of small floor based opportunities,
- [00:17:42.930]whether that's a hangout like a board game night
- [00:17:45.240]or a movie night, dinner as a floor in the dining hall,
- [00:17:48.810]it might involve some snow day fun.
- [00:17:50.880]The picture at the bottom right is of some of our students.
- [00:17:55.500]Gosh, it wasn't last week, the week before,
- [00:17:56.970]we had a good amount of snow in Lincoln,
- [00:17:58.470]so classes went remote or were canceled,
- [00:18:02.520]and so the students had fun out in their communities.
- [00:18:06.120]Beyond just fun stuff though, right.
- [00:18:07.650]We also do things like upper class students
- [00:18:10.470]are working on their CliftonStrengths,
- [00:18:12.450]which we find really valuable and meaningful
- [00:18:14.760]beyond just what happens in the halls.
- [00:18:17.970]We also offer tutoring in our buildings.
- [00:18:20.280]You can see some of the pictures on the screen here.
- [00:18:24.000]We have both kind of individual study rooms
- [00:18:26.880]and group study rooms,
- [00:18:28.800]some other kind of amenities
- [00:18:30.180]that you might find a bit interest.
- [00:18:31.980]You can see we have,
- [00:18:32.910]one of our game rooms is pictured playing pool.
- [00:18:37.380]Some of our buildings have fitness rooms.
- [00:18:40.230]One image of one of our students doing laundry.
- [00:18:42.630]Free laundry, so parents, family members,
- [00:18:45.780]if your student returns home with a full laundry basket
- [00:18:50.790]and says, you know, gosh, I really need some help.
- [00:18:52.620]I can't afford to do my laundry.
- [00:18:54.930]Well, you know, actually, laundry's included.
- [00:18:58.740]What else do I wanna highlight?
- [00:18:59.610]Our front desk operations,
- [00:19:01.050]our hall front desk staff work diligently
- [00:19:03.480]to make sure this place feels like home,
- [00:19:05.370]and that if you have questions
- [00:19:06.480]about really anything about campus,
- [00:19:09.030]if you need help getting your mail or a package delivered,
- [00:19:12.810]or if you tragically get locked out of your room,
- [00:19:15.210]our front desk staff is ready to assist.
- [00:19:19.920]But beyond all of that, I hope that you find personal
- [00:19:22.590]and professional development experiences.
- [00:19:25.080]Yes, probably some adulting things, independent living.
- [00:19:29.910]It is not uncommon for us to show
- [00:19:31.710]how to do maybe a load of laundry or two,
- [00:19:34.470]but beyond that we believe
- [00:19:37.320]that you'll have opportunities to engage your community.
- [00:19:40.680]Whether you might be interested in hall government,
- [00:19:43.380]we have hall government leadership opportunities.
- [00:19:45.930]If you're interested in our Residents Hall Association,
- [00:19:48.540]they do kind of a blend of, you know, planning fun events,
- [00:19:51.360]but also providing feedback to folks like Lucas and I
- [00:19:54.330]on how we can improve the experience in housing.
- [00:19:57.090]And maybe you wanna go one step further
- [00:19:58.560]and you wanna work for housing.
- [00:19:59.550]We have plenty of student employment opportunities,
- [00:20:01.710]whether that's at our front desks or in our dining centers,
- [00:20:05.010]and we believe, you know, that's really convenient,
- [00:20:08.400]and we happen to be a pretty good employer,
- [00:20:10.020]I'd say Lucas, actually so. I agree.
- [00:20:13.380]You agree, thank you.
- [00:20:15.540]Kayla, the next slide actually has another thing
- [00:20:17.790]I wanna make sure I highlight,
- [00:20:18.810]another experience you might consider
- [00:20:21.540]would be our learning communities.
- [00:20:23.460]So as you can see on our screen here,
- [00:20:24.840]the learning communities are groups of students
- [00:20:26.640]who live together and share an academic major
- [00:20:29.700]or interest or identity.
- [00:20:31.440]These students live together on a specific floor community
- [00:20:35.070]and they're also able to take shared classes together.
- [00:20:38.820]In addition, they have some special connections
- [00:20:41.340]with faculty and staff sponsors,
- [00:20:44.670]mentors and professionals in the field,
- [00:20:47.610]that they might be interested in.
- [00:20:48.840]So we have 25 plus learning communities.
- [00:20:52.290]Our full list is online.
- [00:20:54.330]But kind of a few to highlight,
- [00:20:55.440]we have, you know, a pre-vet or pre-law.
- [00:20:58.770]We have an Exploring Health and Medicine.
- [00:21:01.350]If you're interested in more of the hard sciences,
- [00:21:03.450]we have a few that are chemistry or bio related,
- [00:21:07.110]one that's sort of forensic science.
- [00:21:10.080]So lots of options.
- [00:21:12.060]They're a great way really
- [00:21:13.650]to kind of shrink the size of a large campus.
- [00:21:16.860]They're geared toward first year students like you
- [00:21:18.503]and can really help with the transition to college.
- [00:21:21.510]A great way to get connected to campus and meet new people.
- [00:21:25.080]You know, that concept of living and learning together,
- [00:21:27.510]taking that shared course,
- [00:21:28.830]and then also being able to study together
- [00:21:30.900]back in the residence hall is pretty powerful.
- [00:21:34.680]And all of that to say you also have access
- [00:21:36.540]to a specific learning community peer mentor
- [00:21:39.180]who's an upper class student,
- [00:21:40.980]and each learning community has a sponsor,
- [00:21:44.730]a current faculty or staff member
- [00:21:46.260]in that particular interest area or identity.
- [00:21:49.710]So if that wasn't enough,
- [00:21:51.420]learning communities also offer exclusive events and trips
- [00:21:54.600]only offered to students in the learning community.
- [00:21:58.050]Again, pictures speak louder than words.
- [00:22:00.180]Couple pictures on your screen.
- [00:22:01.560]Our top picture here is our pre-vet learning community.
- [00:22:04.590]They are at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha
- [00:22:06.540]getting a facility of the vet,
- [00:22:08.340]a facility tour of the vet clinic.
- [00:22:10.980]That middle pictures are Discover the Healthy Human LC,
- [00:22:15.060]they're taking a tour of the UNL training table
- [00:22:17.310]and athletic training facilities.
- [00:22:19.470]And that bottom one, Exploring Health and Medicine,
- [00:22:22.770]they're at the Munroe-Meyer Institute at the UNMC campus,
- [00:22:27.030]University of Nebraska Medical Center,
- [00:22:28.860]and they're on a facility tour
- [00:22:30.960]but also doing some technology stuff too.
- [00:22:33.960]If any of what I have said has moved you,
- [00:22:38.190]the easiest way to get involved in a learning community
- [00:22:40.800]is to apply within the housing application.
- [00:22:43.710]If you haven't done that,
- [00:22:44.580]you can just kind of mentally
- [00:22:46.080]add that note to your checklist
- [00:22:48.300]when you go to do that housing application.
- [00:22:50.610]If you have already done that part, good for you.
- [00:22:53.670]And if I've moved you to be interested,
- [00:22:56.310]you can just email us directly and say, hey, you know what?
- [00:22:58.980]I looked at the learning community list,
- [00:23:00.420]and I'm really interested in that Psyched Up!
- [00:23:02.370]Psychology based learning community.
- [00:23:04.470]And we'd be glad to help you.
- [00:23:08.910]Gosh, I think I have one more slide
- [00:23:10.577]before I get to turn it over to Lucas again.
- [00:23:12.960]And the last one,
- [00:23:13.793]and I've hinted at this throughout the time,
- [00:23:15.420]but when you're on campus,
- [00:23:16.590]you have a built-in network of support
- [00:23:19.380]and many people on campus who are cheering for you.
- [00:23:22.410]And these are just some of the people.
- [00:23:24.210]Again, some pictures to kind of paint that image
- [00:23:27.450]in your head.
- [00:23:28.650]The top pictures, few of our resident assistants,
- [00:23:31.290]these are peer upper class students,
- [00:23:33.690]upper division students who are on every floor
- [00:23:37.080]who help our students navigate college,
- [00:23:39.030]connect with resources and advice and counsel,
- [00:23:44.070]and occasionally we have some roommate disagreements
- [00:23:46.440]and they are easily able to assist there too.
- [00:23:49.080]We also have, like I said in our learning communities,
- [00:23:52.050]learning community peer mentor,
- [00:23:53.550]that's one of our staff here on the third image down.
- [00:23:57.060]Our desk staff as well,
- [00:23:59.550]front desk operations, you know,
- [00:24:00.900]help you with mail and packages, equipment checkout,
- [00:24:03.960]if you happen to lock yourself outta your room,
- [00:24:06.300]or just have a question, so plenty of staff.
- [00:24:09.960]That second picture is a group of our professional staff
- [00:24:12.720]who live on campus.
- [00:24:14.610]We have staff who live in the building,
- [00:24:16.770]every building, folks like me,
- [00:24:18.570]and those individuals serve in an on-call rotation.
- [00:24:21.570]They're available 24/7 365
- [00:24:24.030]for emergency situations and crisis,
- [00:24:27.090]and so want you to know that
- [00:24:28.860]hopefully that brings you comfort
- [00:24:30.030]as you send maybe your student to college,
- [00:24:32.640]and knowing that some folks are there
- [00:24:35.220]willing to help at any hour.
- [00:24:38.130]I mentioned briefly earlier,
- [00:24:39.630]but we have in-house counseling staff
- [00:24:41.603]just to provide support and assistance
- [00:24:43.680]right in the building.
- [00:24:45.480]And really not to go overlooked,
- [00:24:48.000]some of our unsung heroes,
- [00:24:50.490]our maintenance staff and our dining staff
- [00:24:52.800]provide after hour support,
- [00:24:54.420]help with things that maybe go awry in the room,
- [00:24:57.993]that 24/7 support here.
- [00:25:00.900]Our dining staff helping you navigate the dining centers,
- [00:25:03.480]how to use your meal plan,
- [00:25:05.100]maybe you have a special dietary restriction
- [00:25:07.620]and those folks can help you too.
- [00:25:09.600]So the bottom line,
- [00:25:10.950]lots of folks around who wanna help you
- [00:25:13.140]and help see you be successful really.
- [00:25:16.680]Lucas, I think I'm gonna turn it back over to you,
- [00:25:18.420]and Lucas is gonna talk about one of my favorite pieces,
- [00:25:20.550]which is food.
- [00:25:22.290]Lucas.
- [00:25:23.123]I was gonna say our favorite thing.
- [00:25:24.120]I knew you were going there.
- [00:25:25.770]Matt and I eat downstairs regularly together.
- [00:25:28.590]And so we vote with our feet in many ways
- [00:25:31.290]that our campus dining program
- [00:25:33.090]is something that we are very proud of.
- [00:25:36.930]And I told you sort of in the intro
- [00:25:39.210]that I'm new to the institution relatively
- [00:25:42.510]and having an experience
- [00:25:43.920]leading the dining program at another institution,
- [00:25:46.020]I can tell you firsthand how proud I am of this program.
- [00:25:50.550]What I like to say all the time
- [00:25:53.220]is that I've never seen a more flexible meal plan offering
- [00:25:57.240]than the one at this institution.
- [00:25:59.490]We have a meal plan program
- [00:26:01.440]that meets every student's needs.
- [00:26:03.330]I like to say that our meal plan road
- [00:26:05.490]rises to meet you where you are
- [00:26:07.680]and we're really, really proud of it.
- [00:26:10.440]And I see that there's a lot of questions already
- [00:26:12.540]in the chat about meals,
- [00:26:14.520]and so hopefully through this section of the presentation
- [00:26:18.450]I'm able to answer those for you.
- [00:26:20.400]I know that our staff just dropped
- [00:26:23.370]a helpful link into the chat about dining,
- [00:26:25.800]and it drives you to our dining webpage
- [00:26:28.530]where you can dig a little bit deeper, if you will.
- [00:26:31.770]But we say that our meal plans
- [00:26:35.869]meet your lifestyle and your routine.
- [00:26:38.730]We got the three squared eaters,
- [00:26:40.410]and we got the no breakfast folks,
- [00:26:43.770]we got the intermediate fasting individuals,
- [00:26:45.810]and the folks who couldn't get enough food,
- [00:26:48.420]and we think that we have a dining program
- [00:26:51.864]that would fit all of those lifestyles,
- [00:26:52.950]and we'll talk about that when we get to the next slide.
- [00:26:55.830]But our meal plans are really portable and they're flexible,
- [00:26:59.100]and so they are able to be used
- [00:27:01.710]in a variety of locations on campus,
- [00:27:03.480]and that's what I want to talk about.
- [00:27:05.430]We have dining halls.
- [00:27:06.660]Was this is what you think about
- [00:27:07.650]when you think about a cafeteria?
- [00:27:09.570]We don't call them that,
- [00:27:10.590]we call them dining centers or dining halls.
- [00:27:12.840]These are all you care to eat places on campus
- [00:27:16.470]where with one meal swipe you're in through door,
- [00:27:19.920]you can have food from the grill,
- [00:27:22.080]you can have food from a world fair concept.
- [00:27:25.560]You could go to our allergen station,
- [00:27:27.510]you could come back and eat a dessert.
- [00:27:29.190]Heck you could take a second around with the pizza
- [00:27:31.740]and then the pasta.
- [00:27:32.850]All you care to eat for that one swipe
- [00:27:34.860]while you're in the dining center is what you think about
- [00:27:39.150]when you think about those dining halls or those meal,
- [00:27:41.580]that's the primary way that our meal swipes are used.
- [00:27:46.200]But there are many other ways that meal swipes can be used.
- [00:27:52.080]They can also be used as a part of our Husker Heroes,
- [00:27:56.880]which is a sandwich shop.
- [00:27:59.130]Those through our mobile app,
- [00:28:00.990]which we'll talk about in a little more depth,
- [00:28:02.760]you can go on to one of our sandwich shops on campus,
- [00:28:05.970]customize that order, call ahead,
- [00:28:08.880]get a ping on your phone that your sandwich is ready,
- [00:28:11.490]walk up with one meal swipe, bada bing bada boom.
- [00:28:15.870]Also, we offer the Selleck Food Court, which in the biz,
- [00:28:19.980]if you will, is called a ghost kitchen,
- [00:28:22.110]where we offer a a variety of retail concepts
- [00:28:25.080]for your meal swipe.
- [00:28:26.430]Whether that's our Qdoba that is on your meal plan,
- [00:28:29.880]so you can get your burrito bowl at a better,
- [00:28:32.580]more advantageous price point than the Qdoba in downtown,
- [00:28:37.140]or you can get a pasta meal at our Pasta Buono,
- [00:28:40.290]or you can get a huge omelet the size of your face,
- [00:28:44.190]if you want in Selleck,
- [00:28:45.240]or your grains in greens or your sushi,
- [00:28:47.970]you can get a lot of different options on your Selleck.
- [00:28:50.880]All mobile first dining center, our Selleck Food Court.
- [00:28:56.760]But any of our options on campus, any of our dining centers,
- [00:29:00.450]we're particularly attentive to those individuals
- [00:29:03.480]with dietary restrictions,
- [00:29:04.620]dietary preferences, or dietary needs.
- [00:29:07.710]So upfront we offer an eight plus
- [00:29:10.410]dining allergy free station in our Harper Dining Center,
- [00:29:13.950]but we also offer a completely gluten-free restaurant
- [00:29:17.010]in Selleck called Moxie's.
- [00:29:19.200]Our attention to allergies,
- [00:29:22.200]something that I'm really proud of.
- [00:29:23.370]We have a dietician on staff
- [00:29:24.870]who can help individual students address any meal plan,
- [00:29:29.640]any individual diet restrictions, any preferences,
- [00:29:32.610]learning how to eat vegan or vegetarian
- [00:29:35.400]or addressing a known allergy.
- [00:29:38.340]That individual, her name's Ellen,
- [00:29:39.870]you might hear from her throughout your admissions process.
- [00:29:42.960]She is a person
- [00:29:43.890]who individuals who have this type of restriction
- [00:29:46.920]or this type of need will come to know and come to love.
- [00:29:50.340]She is a individual who will serve you well.
- [00:29:54.510]We've talked about our mobile ordering,
- [00:29:56.550]and that's again when I was talking
- [00:29:58.740]about Selleck or Husker Heroes.
- [00:30:00.660]But you can also use your meal plan into the union,
- [00:30:03.450]into the Nebraska Union through our mobile app.
- [00:30:06.270]So through our mobile app on your meal plan,
- [00:30:08.460]you can mobile order or call ahead, if you will,
- [00:30:11.520]Chick-fil-A, Steak 'n Shake,
- [00:30:14.250]all of the vendors into the union,
- [00:30:17.310]that is something that, again,
- [00:30:18.660]these meal plans are flexible, they're portable,
- [00:30:21.660]they're used everywhere on campus.
- [00:30:24.480]We really do think that we can provide a food program
- [00:30:29.430]that meets any needs, something that I've said a few times,
- [00:30:33.480]we're just very proud of.
- [00:30:37.800]Something that I like to call out here too,
- [00:30:40.080]the individuals who serve in our dining centers.
- [00:30:44.400]Not to make a silly joke about my pleasure
- [00:30:46.590]'cause we have a Chick-fil-A on campus.
- [00:30:48.690]But it is truly their pleasure
- [00:30:50.610]to serve the students of this university.
- [00:30:53.820]They take that very, very seriously.
- [00:30:57.090]They're the friends and the folks
- [00:30:58.590]who will welcome you every day and say,
- [00:31:00.330]hi, how are you doing, as you walk in to a dining center.
- [00:31:04.710]They're the individuals who will help you
- [00:31:06.300]navigate dining rooms if you have any challenges
- [00:31:08.850]or any questions.
- [00:31:10.290]They're the individuals who take great joy
- [00:31:12.960]in ensuring that the menu is fresh for you,
- [00:31:15.930]that the tables are clean,
- [00:31:17.280]that the dining centers
- [00:31:18.720]are a world-class experience for you.
- [00:31:21.750]And again, as I suggested, being at a previous institution,
- [00:31:25.380]I know firsthand how serious they take that,
- [00:31:28.590]and it's something that I,
- [00:31:30.330]as the director of the department,
- [00:31:32.490]is super proud of and super proud of those individuals
- [00:31:36.120]who support our students.
- [00:31:38.040]We also know that there are some particular things
- [00:31:40.740]that are important to our students
- [00:31:42.180]and I wanted to call out
- [00:31:43.140]some of our sustainability efforts here.
- [00:31:46.200]In many ways, our dining program is best in class
- [00:31:50.370]when it comes to leaders on campus around sustainability.
- [00:31:54.720]I and Matt and the individuals
- [00:31:56.820]who work in Housing and Dining,
- [00:31:58.650]in many ways we run a small city.
- [00:32:02.430]You live with us, you eat with us, you grow with us.
- [00:32:06.090]And so we're set on a lot of resource,
- [00:32:08.910]a lot of square footage,
- [00:32:09.900]a lot of buildings, a lot of places,
- [00:32:12.390]and we take that responsibility seriously
- [00:32:15.240]to leave this world better than when we found it
- [00:32:17.640]and be good stewards of the resources that are given to us.
- [00:32:20.970]And our dining center is a great example of that,
- [00:32:24.150]whether that be the local food purveying that we do,
- [00:32:27.510]our biodigesters, our food waste education.
- [00:32:31.488]In the life of our biodigester program,
- [00:32:38.010]in just one semester,
- [00:32:39.930]we have diverted over 50,000 pounds of food
- [00:32:43.140]from our local landfill in the life of that program now,
- [00:32:47.280]that is over 120,000 pounds of food waste
- [00:32:50.940]that we have diverted from a landfill.
- [00:32:52.920]And again, we love to put that feather in our cap.
- [00:32:57.480]And in just six months,
- [00:32:58.440]I talked about kind of Matt and I voting with our feet
- [00:33:01.380]going there every day.
- [00:33:02.940]In the first six months,
- [00:33:04.740]the first semester of this school year,
- [00:33:07.530]our dining services served 1.3 million unique
- [00:33:11.820]or 1.3 million customer swipes into the dining rooms.
- [00:33:15.210]And so that's something that is absolutely something,
- [00:33:21.450]nothing to shake a stick at,
- [00:33:22.440]or something really we're really proud of.
- [00:33:25.980]I want to go to the next page
- [00:33:27.150]'cause this is maybe one of the our best slides
- [00:33:31.320]and it's on our webpage,
- [00:33:32.850]and it's something that I would keep handy
- [00:33:35.490]as you understand and learn our meal plan process.
- [00:33:41.160]As I kind of alluded,
- [00:33:42.480]we have dining swipes and then we have dining dollars.
- [00:33:47.430]I didn't really talk about the dining dollars,
- [00:33:48.930]and I'll talk about that now.
- [00:33:50.310]Our dining swipes as you see on this screen,
- [00:33:53.430]our premium plan, our big red plan, our platinum plan,
- [00:33:56.190]our diamond plan, our sapphire plan, that first number,
- [00:34:00.120]that 18, 14, 12, 10 or eight is the amount of dining swipes.
- [00:34:04.620]Those swipes are given to your card each week
- [00:34:07.050]and they reload as such.
- [00:34:10.440]But our dining dollars
- [00:34:12.360]are that declining balance amount that is behind that,
- [00:34:16.740]that goes onto your card
- [00:34:19.230]and that is used as a campus currency.
- [00:34:21.600]So you could use a swipe in the dining center
- [00:34:25.530]and then want to go use the dining dollar
- [00:34:28.260]through our Starbucks as an example
- [00:34:30.510]or go to the the Herbie's Market and pack up and snack,
- [00:34:38.280]grab a whole bunch of snacks and load up on snacks,
- [00:34:41.370]and you could use your dining dollars for that.
- [00:34:43.140]Those dining dollars as it says on this little chart,
- [00:34:46.860]those dining dollars will transition over semesters for you,
- [00:34:52.440]and you'll see that those green check marks,
- [00:34:56.340]our first year students select one of those standard plans,
- [00:34:59.490]again, the premium, big red, platinum, diamond, or sapphire.
- [00:35:04.380]And we know that this might be a big choice for you
- [00:35:06.990]and that's okay.
- [00:35:08.730]We encourage students just to grab one,
- [00:35:11.940]try one in the process,
- [00:35:13.710]and we offer a meal plan change period
- [00:35:15.780]where you can understand your schedule.
- [00:35:17.310]You could say, hey, mom, I'm gonna be a three square eater.
- [00:35:21.810]And when you get here you're like,
- [00:35:23.370]man, I'm not getting up for breakfast.
- [00:35:26.100]And that's okay, and that's what we want to do.
- [00:35:27.930]We wanna provide a program that meets your dietary needs
- [00:35:30.870]and how you want to navigate your food
- [00:35:34.200]here at the university.
- [00:35:35.610]So you come here,
- [00:35:36.540]you select a program during the first two weeks
- [00:35:38.400]as you start to learn your schedule
- [00:35:40.020]and understand how you use your dining program
- [00:35:42.480]will allow you to switch meals
- [00:35:43.740]between those traditional dining plans,
- [00:35:47.880]and then that gets locked in for the semester.
- [00:35:49.920]And then in the second semester,
- [00:35:51.690]we'll give you another opportunity
- [00:35:52.860]if you'd like to move up or move down into the program.
- [00:35:57.150]So refer to this sheet, Kayla dropped the chat.
- [00:35:59.640]This is a great, great, great resource for us.
- [00:36:02.460]Something that we love.
- [00:36:06.690]I think, Kayla, did that meet your needs
- [00:36:08.820]around the chat talking about bucks versus swipes?
- [00:36:12.180]Thank you so much for explaining the swipe and bucks.
- [00:36:15.630]Look how dynamic we are that we're responding to the chats
- [00:36:19.620]into the presentation.
- [00:36:21.540]Holy buckets.
- [00:36:22.373]It's like we've done this before, we're excited to do it.
- [00:36:25.290]All right, so as we're coming around the corner here,
- [00:36:28.020]this is where we want you to get us,
- [00:36:32.520]make sure that we have all of your questions answered.
- [00:36:34.740]So we've mentioned multiple times,
- [00:36:37.890]our website is a great resource,
- [00:36:39.720]and we'll continue to do that here.
- [00:36:41.970]We've dropped it in chats,
- [00:36:43.230]but now we're gonna give you a QR code.
- [00:36:44.610]It's like every way that you can view our website,
- [00:36:46.590]we're gonna give you it.
- [00:36:48.060]So if this is something that you'd like to do,
- [00:36:50.040]scan our website, peruse it.
- [00:36:52.050]But we know that we have a few questions already lined up
- [00:36:56.100]that we've queued up to answer live and we want to do so.
- [00:37:07.560]There's mostly my content which probably means
- [00:37:09.840]I didn't do a very good job of explaining it.
- [00:37:12.965]I am going to try to answer one and it says,
- [00:37:16.431]how does a student access the roommate finder?
- [00:37:20.010]And where you access the roommate finder
- [00:37:22.920]is in the same location
- [00:37:24.090]as you accessed your housing contract.
- [00:37:27.210]So you revisit the StarRez portal
- [00:37:29.370]which is found through your MyRed.
- [00:37:32.370]And Kayla just dropped that in there on queue for us.
- [00:37:38.070]You would visit your MyRed, click the housing portal,
- [00:37:41.910]and the roommate finder will be a widget, if you will,
- [00:37:46.560]that will be available to you on that time,
- [00:37:49.440]and then you can go into that part of the process
- [00:37:51.810]and participate in the roommate finder.
- [00:37:57.690]Matt,
- [00:37:58.770]I'm gonna have you answer some of the roommate questions
- [00:38:01.770]'cause you talked about roommate conflicts and roommates.
- [00:38:05.550]So I think the question is once they find a mutual match,
- [00:38:10.050]can students reach out to their prospective roommates
- [00:38:12.060]and learn more about them? Is there a meet and greet?
- [00:38:14.400]I think that's a great one for the Rez Life guy to answer.
- [00:38:17.700]Absolutely. We see one another at orientation this summer.
- [00:38:22.650]Usually the silly dad joke that I'll use is,
- [00:38:26.250]yeah, we would love you to use your vocal chords
- [00:38:29.070]to speak with your roommate.
- [00:38:31.980]Too easily we can text or join
- [00:38:35.730]and see one another on social media,
- [00:38:37.800]but actually picking up the phone
- [00:38:39.450]or, my goodness, if you could meet in person even better.
- [00:38:42.930]But yeah, definitely please connect with that person
- [00:38:44.880]before you move-in,
- [00:38:46.500]talk about, you know, just get to know one another.
- [00:38:50.970]Start that introduction,
- [00:38:52.620]maybe an easy entry into that is, you know,
- [00:38:56.130]where are you from? Get to know you.
- [00:38:57.990]What are you planning to bring with you?
- [00:38:59.370]Let's make sure we don't both bring the same thing
- [00:39:02.250]and meet up on move-in day and be a little surprised
- [00:39:05.040]at the amount of stuff that we have in our room.
- [00:39:06.750]So yes, please connect with them.
- [00:39:09.720]The way you can do so is all pretty easy and straightforward
- [00:39:13.020]in the housing portal.
- [00:39:14.040]You can connect with them that way.
- [00:39:16.800]There's a kind of a way when you do the roommate finder
- [00:39:19.350]to message back and forth with folks,
- [00:39:21.600]get to know them a little bit better
- [00:39:22.860]before you kind of officially match with one another,
- [00:39:25.590]that sort of thing.
- [00:39:26.640]If you do run into problems,
- [00:39:28.020]once you get in the groove of things, you know,
- [00:39:31.290]it's really easy to, I don't know, you know,
- [00:39:34.890]you're living with someone,
- [00:39:36.150]a lot of us haven't shared a room before
- [00:39:38.070]and so that's a new experience.
- [00:39:39.750]Our staff's here to help you kind of navigate
- [00:39:41.490]some of those tricky situations.
- [00:39:43.470]A lot of times they're really small things
- [00:39:45.270]and the small things sometimes build and, you know,
- [00:39:48.750]gosh, it really irritates me when you turn the light on
- [00:39:51.150]when I'm still sleeping.
- [00:39:52.920]Those are really easy to fix
- [00:39:54.480]and have a conversation with our staff.
- [00:39:56.190]Happy to help you with navigating those things.
- [00:40:00.036]Matt, I'm gonna come back to you,
- [00:40:01.800]but I'm gonna try to talk a little bit
- [00:40:03.360]and maybe we can tag team this about move-in
- [00:40:04.950]'cause I see some questions going about move-in.
- [00:40:07.320]I know Keith is eager to jump on those questions in the chat
- [00:40:10.170]'cause something that's near and dear to his heart as well.
- [00:40:12.510]But our move-in process in many ways is unlike any other.
- [00:40:18.690]It's a touchless move-in process.
- [00:40:21.030]A process that we learned and borrowed in many ways
- [00:40:25.530]from the lessons of COVID, but it was such a success,
- [00:40:29.460]and such a service that we wanted to continue to offer it.
- [00:40:33.207]And so how that will happen is you will get a move-in time,
- [00:40:39.480]they'll be communicated from our office,
- [00:40:41.520]and Matt can talk to you a little bit about that.
- [00:40:43.560]But basically what I wanted to speak about is that,
- [00:40:46.233]here we have crews ready and able
- [00:40:49.140]to carry all your belongings up to your room,
- [00:40:52.860]get you all settled into your hall.
- [00:40:54.780]What we ask you and your parents to worry about
- [00:40:57.000]is just ensure that the room is set up
- [00:40:59.340]and you can kind of get organized
- [00:41:00.780]as everything kind of just appears in your room for you.
- [00:41:04.980]It's something that's really special,
- [00:41:06.330]it's something that we think, again, we're pretty proud of.
- [00:41:09.562]Matt, you wanna talk about the day of move-in
- [00:41:10.980]just a little bit more?
- [00:41:12.450]Yeah, you bet.
- [00:41:13.440]Our move-in is really slick and kudos to the staff
- [00:41:17.190]who work diligently to make sure it is that way for you.
- [00:41:20.400]In some ways, maybe it goes a little too fast,
- [00:41:23.245]but our move-in period is the week before classes begin.
- [00:41:27.450]So classes begin in the Fall on August 21st.
- [00:41:31.020]Move-in begins on Monday, August 14th,
- [00:41:35.280]and lasts for a handful of days.
- [00:41:38.010]Now, your move-in date and time,
- [00:41:39.150]you will be assigned a specific day and time.
- [00:41:41.340]And the reason for that is because as Lucas said,
- [00:41:43.740]we have a moving crew who,
- [00:41:45.390]essentially we're gonna ask you to check-in
- [00:41:47.550]at a set one central location, get your room key,
- [00:41:50.190]get all the information that you need
- [00:41:52.170]and then hop back in your car,
- [00:41:54.390]drive to the specific building that you're moving in,
- [00:41:56.580]and when you arrive,
- [00:41:57.630]you're gonna pull up and a crew of folks
- [00:42:00.540]is going to kind of descend upon your vehicle
- [00:42:02.940]and unload that car or truck.
- [00:42:06.660]If I were you, I'd recommend,
- [00:42:07.830]again, this is one of my dad jokes for the summer,
- [00:42:10.740]pack your F-350, you can pack your Honda Accord,
- [00:42:14.940]but, you know, pack all your stuff in the F-350
- [00:42:19.020]and the crew will descend on that,
- [00:42:21.990]unload it into carts and whisk it away up to your room,
- [00:42:25.200]so that you go park,
- [00:42:26.250]and hopefully by the time you come back into the building
- [00:42:29.190]your stuff is waiting for you at the room.
- [00:42:31.227]And so to kind of orchestrate that,
- [00:42:34.440]we assign specific days and times for move-in
- [00:42:37.710]that helps the crew who's doing so they move-in by floor,
- [00:42:42.128]if you would believe it, they time the elevator,
- [00:42:44.880]and so there is a science certainly behind this
- [00:42:47.580]as well as an art.
- [00:42:49.140]So the 14th for several days, again,
- [00:42:51.780]you'll be assigned a specific day and time
- [00:42:53.850]a little bit closer here in the summer.
- [00:42:56.340]We do have some groups who move-in early.
- [00:42:58.590]So for some of you who might be participating
- [00:43:01.080]in sorority recruitment,
- [00:43:03.180]that move-in typically happens on Sunday, the 13th,
- [00:43:06.780]and as well as some of our other programs
- [00:43:08.640]move-in a little bit early.
- [00:43:09.600]So if you're part of maybe a special group
- [00:43:12.630]who moves in early,
- [00:43:13.650]your particular coordinator would be in touch with you.
- [00:43:17.940]And if your date and time doesn't work,
- [00:43:19.140]we'll work with you, no problem there.
- [00:43:23.250]Lucas, before I move away from move-in,
- [00:43:25.410]anything else you wanna say about move-in?
- [00:43:27.030]No, I just think, I think you did.
- [00:43:28.500]Just to put a little finer point,
- [00:43:29.820]we'll communicate your move-in details
- [00:43:31.710]throughout the summer once we know your room assignment.
- [00:43:34.620]So there's been some questions about that,
- [00:43:36.390]and there are some particular special groups
- [00:43:38.400]that get preference in early move-in.
- [00:43:40.170]So I know that marching band and sorority
- [00:43:43.770]was a particular question,
- [00:43:44.940]and yes we work individually with those groups
- [00:43:48.690]and those group leaders to coordinate those movement times.
- [00:43:50.700]Matt, you can take us where you'd like us to go next.
- [00:43:55.020]Yes, there was a question about,
- [00:43:58.140]let me see if I can find the exact wording.
- [00:44:00.450]It was about basically who has access to my room?
- [00:44:02.670]Good question.
- [00:44:03.503]So let's talk a little bit
- [00:44:04.336]about access to the building in general.
- [00:44:07.080]So say you live in Harper Hall,
- [00:44:09.060]all students have a student ID card, that's your NCard,
- [00:44:13.410]hold it outta my wallet so you can see, your NCard.
- [00:44:16.441]And your NCard is how you access your meal plan,
- [00:44:18.960]so when we say dining swipes or use your dining dollars,
- [00:44:22.830]that's all on your NCard,
- [00:44:25.047]but NCard also lets you into the main door.
- [00:44:27.930]So if you live in Harper, you scan this,
- [00:44:30.240]this is how you get into the building.
- [00:44:32.340]When you wander up to fourth floor,
- [00:44:33.750]so you live on the fourth floor,
- [00:44:35.370]you'll be given at check-in, at your time of move-in,
- [00:44:38.250]you'll be given a key to your room,
- [00:44:40.230]and your room key will let you into the room
- [00:44:43.230]and your room only.
- [00:44:45.210]If you have a roommate,
- [00:44:46.080]so say Lucas and I are rooming together in Harper,
- [00:44:48.720]which is a traditional hall,
- [00:44:50.370]both Lucas and I will each have our own key.
- [00:44:52.530]It does access the same spot,
- [00:44:55.200]and if Lucas happens to lose his key,
- [00:44:56.700]he can get it replaced,
- [00:44:58.170]and it wouldn't necessarily impact my key.
- [00:45:00.600]Now if we live in a suite, there are multiple doors.
- [00:45:03.120]So there's a door kind of in the hallway
- [00:45:05.730]that would have access to anyone who lives in the suite.
- [00:45:08.370]So up to four people.
- [00:45:09.900]And then if Lucas and I are in room A
- [00:45:13.140]and another pair of folks is in room B,
- [00:45:15.660]we'd have access to the A room
- [00:45:17.250]and they'd have access to the B room.
- [00:45:19.650]So hopefully that answered that one.
- [00:45:21.900]Lucas, where do you wanna go next?
- [00:45:24.004]I saw a question about wifi
- [00:45:29.400]that I think maybe was answered,
- [00:45:30.900]but I wanna talk a little bit about room customization
- [00:45:33.750]maybe as kind of a global.
- [00:45:34.950]I saw some stuff about thumbtacks in the walls
- [00:45:39.420]and those types of things.
- [00:45:40.380]And so when you move-in,
- [00:45:43.770]you are going to receive the community living guide
- [00:45:46.650]from Rez Life and that'll walk through
- [00:45:48.000]some of those individual in-room residence hall policies
- [00:45:52.464]and that can be a part also of your orientation experience
- [00:45:55.572]that will ensure that students get
- [00:45:58.380]as a part of their process.
- [00:46:00.300]But generally speaking, room customizations,
- [00:46:02.460]there are parameters around such
- [00:46:04.320]meaning they can't paint your room
- [00:46:06.120]or put holes in the walls.
- [00:46:07.140]But we do show you some approved ways to customize your room
- [00:46:13.470]through that community living guide.
- [00:46:15.000]So command strips and the like.
- [00:46:18.750]I wanted to touch on that router
- [00:46:20.790]and I don't know the question behind the question here,
- [00:46:23.280]but I believe that I would answer that.
- [00:46:25.077]But the answer is no,
- [00:46:26.550]we can't install your own personal networks into your room.
- [00:46:30.330]But if the question is about speed of internet,
- [00:46:34.470]our in room network is very, very fast
- [00:46:38.040]and it will able to do all of your gaming,
- [00:46:42.270]your streaming, everything that you would need.
- [00:46:45.480]So I wouldn't see a need for your own network
- [00:46:50.250]and our IT professionals during move-in
- [00:46:52.170]will be onsite if you have a smart device
- [00:46:54.810]to get that connected to the network
- [00:46:56.340]and address those MAC addresses
- [00:46:58.020]and those types of things that you might need.
- [00:47:02.430]Matt, there was a question about when do I get my NCard?
- [00:47:10.260]If you wanted to answer that, I dunno if you heard that one.
- [00:47:12.840]Sure, you bet.
- [00:47:13.673]So your NCard, that student ID,
- [00:47:16.020]if you join us in the summer for a new student enrollment
- [00:47:19.350]or orientation program that is when you'll get your NCard.
- [00:47:23.340]So you'll have it when you come to move-in in August.
- [00:47:26.160]If for some reason you're not able to make it
- [00:47:27.960]and join us in person for orientation, that's okay,
- [00:47:31.260]we still want you to move-in
- [00:47:32.490]and we can kind of direct you from there
- [00:47:33.930]on how to get your NCard.
- [00:47:36.570]I know we use a lot of words,
- [00:47:38.160]there's a lot of acronyms and lingo with campus
- [00:47:41.460]and so just to kind of say it one more time,
- [00:47:44.670]the NCard is your student ID.
- [00:47:47.820]The NUID is that eight digit number
- [00:47:51.000]that you kind of use to log in for various systems.
- [00:47:54.180]Your NCard is what's gonna give you,
- [00:47:57.120]you know, tangible access to things.
- [00:47:59.970]Your NUID, that eight digit number,
- [00:48:02.340]is what's gonna provide you access to systems and things
- [00:48:05.700]in the technology sphere.
- [00:48:06.870]So like when you go to login to MyRed,
- [00:48:08.790]you'll sign in using your eight digit NUID.
- [00:48:14.052]I got a couple questions about parking.
- [00:48:16.530]I think maybe that could be interesting.
- [00:48:19.260]Parking, there is no restriction
- [00:48:23.070]on first year students parking on campus.
- [00:48:25.890]You are welcome to bring a car.
- [00:48:27.900]We do have many of our buildings are adjacent to
- [00:48:31.410]or near a parking lot or a parking garage.
- [00:48:34.290]Depending on where you end up moving and living,
- [00:48:37.500]you might change your option.
- [00:48:39.270]It might also depend on what kind of vehicle
- [00:48:40.860]you're bringing.
- [00:48:42.090]I don't need my car to be in the garage,
- [00:48:44.190]so I choose to park in the surface lot.
- [00:48:46.290]But you might have different thoughts on that,
- [00:48:50.520]that is a separate process from your move-in.
- [00:48:53.700]So like just by virtue of of signing your contract,
- [00:48:56.880]you do still need to go out and get your parking pass,
- [00:48:59.040]get that arranged,
- [00:49:00.000]though you can have it kind of all ready
- [00:49:03.780]and ready to roll before you get here.
- [00:49:05.880]All of our permits are virtual now
- [00:49:08.400]and so you don't actually need anything physically.
- [00:49:11.340]They do things based on license plate,
- [00:49:13.770]which is super, super slick.
- [00:49:17.250]I think that one hopefully answered parking.
- [00:49:19.520]Is there anything else about parking, Lucas, that you saw?
- [00:49:22.230]No, as you wanna talk about,
- [00:49:23.340]a lot of times we get the question
- [00:49:24.630]of should a first year student bring a car?
- [00:49:26.880]You wanna put a finer point on that?
- [00:49:30.030]Oh gosh, that's a very personal decision.
- [00:49:33.930]If I were you, I probably,
- [00:49:36.270]I would try it maybe without and see.
- [00:49:40.290]By virtue of living on campus,
- [00:49:41.640]you're close to everything that you need.
- [00:49:42.900]You're close to the activities, you're close to class,
- [00:49:46.110]you're close to the rec center,
- [00:49:48.120]to athletic events, to class.
- [00:49:51.300]So I don't really think you need it.
- [00:49:53.220]I would suspect that you could probably find a buddy
- [00:49:57.390]that could maybe be your challenge for the first week or so
- [00:50:00.690]living in find a buddy who has a car.
- [00:50:02.850]If you need to traverse between our two campuses,
- [00:50:05.040]City and East campus,
- [00:50:05.970]there's a bus route that you can show your student ID
- [00:50:10.500]and traverse both campuses.
- [00:50:12.150]So I don't think you need it,
- [00:50:13.710]but again, a personal decision, totally up to you.
- [00:50:17.340]You might wanna try it and see how it goes
- [00:50:18.960]and you can always add it later.
- [00:50:23.820]Matt, you wanna talk about,
- [00:50:25.320]there's a question about shipping items
- [00:50:29.010]ahead of time and out of state,
- [00:50:30.930]and you wanna talk about that mail process if you could?
- [00:50:35.100]Yeah, you bet.
- [00:50:35.933]So on our website,
- [00:50:36.930]and hopefully one of my colleagues can put it in,
- [00:50:40.020]our mailing addresses are publicly listed.
- [00:50:42.630]So once you know which building you'll be living in,
- [00:50:44.760]you'll be able to find your address right away.
- [00:50:47.610]It's really that simple.
- [00:50:49.080]So if I live in, gosh, if I live in Abel,
- [00:50:52.470]and my grandmother wants to send me a care package,
- [00:50:56.880]all she has to do is put my name.
- [00:50:58.680]It'd be really helpful if she put Abel room 304.
- [00:51:03.930]And then that unique Abel address, it'll make its way to me,
- [00:51:07.620]the room number helps our staff
- [00:51:09.660]when they go to process the package.
- [00:51:11.760]But, my goodness, yes, we receive a lot of packages.
- [00:51:16.590]And actually we just had a record day, Lucas,
- [00:51:18.978]I don't know if I told you this the other day,
- [00:51:20.070]but right around Valentine's Day,
- [00:51:22.980]we had a record number of packages logged by our front desk.
- [00:51:26.580]So I'll give you a couple guesses
- [00:51:27.930]as to why that might have been.
- [00:51:29.040]But whether it's a package, whether it's Amazon,
- [00:51:32.310]grandma's cookies from home,
- [00:51:34.710]whether it's a delivery from Walmart or DoorDash,
- [00:51:39.090]our front desks help with those.
- [00:51:41.850]We do hope that if you're expecting something
- [00:51:44.430]that's maybe hot and ready,
- [00:51:46.530]if you're getting a pizza or something,
- [00:51:48.150]hopefully you make your way down
- [00:51:49.290]to the front desk area in the lobby to retrieve that,
- [00:51:52.290]that way it doesn't sit without you.
- [00:51:53.640]But yeah, it's just like living at home.
- [00:51:56.670]You can have anything delivered to us.
- [00:51:58.830]We'd be happy to help.
- [00:52:01.710]The specific question of timelines
- [00:52:03.930]of how advanced you can ship that,
- [00:52:06.120]we can send you some information about that as well
- [00:52:10.290]so that you can ensure that if you are traveling from afar
- [00:52:13.080]to the university,
- [00:52:14.250]that those items are there for you when you arrive,
- [00:52:18.810]when you come here as well.
- [00:52:20.070]So I know that that was a question.
- [00:52:21.540]Yeah, generally, like give us until August
- [00:52:25.080]to get us ready to begin.
- [00:52:26.820]But yeah, once August hits, feel free to send stuff our way,
- [00:52:30.960]by the time you know your hall address,
- [00:52:32.340]you'd be happy to send something.
- [00:52:34.350]You'll probably get an email from us that says,
- [00:52:36.240]we've processed it for you and it's ready for you.
- [00:52:39.060]But it'll sit there until you arrive. So there you go.
- [00:52:43.650]We're getting a lot of questions
- [00:52:44.760]sort of outside of the scope, if you will,
- [00:52:46.950]of housing and dining,
- [00:52:48.027]which is fantastic and we're doing our best to answer those.
- [00:52:52.590]Know that we're probably referring you around
- [00:52:54.690]and asking you to email us
- [00:52:55.980]and we'll connect you with the right people
- [00:52:58.920]because I don't want to pretend like Matt and I
- [00:53:01.770]are some experts on campus when we're not,
- [00:53:04.050]and I don't want to necessarily
- [00:53:06.060]lead you in the wrong direction,
- [00:53:08.040]but there was a particular question about laptops
- [00:53:12.210]or whatever like best for a major.
- [00:53:14.640]And how I would suggest that to be answered is,
- [00:53:18.690]yes, it would be very major specific
- [00:53:20.730]and I would ask you to encourage your student
- [00:53:23.640]as a part of that process to engage kind of what's best.
- [00:53:27.060]But globally as an institution, we are system agnostic,
- [00:53:30.750]meaning we'll take PCs, we'll take Macs,
- [00:53:33.270]you can bring whatever device you would like to us
- [00:53:36.600]and our network team and our IT is gonna support you.
- [00:53:40.950]I talk often when I give these types of presentations about,
- [00:53:44.910]or with students about,
- [00:53:47.100]it's hard to get students to agree on certain things,
- [00:53:49.470]but there's three things that they always agree on
- [00:53:52.800]and that there's not enough parking,
- [00:53:54.480]the internet is too slow and the food stinks on campus.
- [00:53:59.220]And I'm here to say that I have to stop saying that
- [00:54:02.250]after transitioning to this institution
- [00:54:04.200]because those three things aren't a problem here.
- [00:54:07.560]I thought that they would be,
- [00:54:08.730]'cause I thought that they were common at every institution,
- [00:54:10.830]but maybe that was just my previous institution.
- [00:54:14.190]Matt, there's been a lot of conversation about parking,
- [00:54:16.680]and sure,
- [00:54:18.030]we always probably need one more parking spot than we have,
- [00:54:20.760]but there's a ample amount of parking.
- [00:54:23.850]Our network in our residence hall specifically is fantastic,
- [00:54:29.880]and it supports students all their preferences
- [00:54:32.190]and their needs.
- [00:54:33.750]And our dining program,
- [00:54:35.310]as I gushed upon over and over and over again,
- [00:54:38.790]it's something that we are really, really proud of.
- [00:54:42.300]And I think when you become a part of this institution,
- [00:54:46.320]you will see that too.
- [00:54:50.730]Matt, there's a question about electronic charger,
- [00:54:53.790]electric chargers in student parking areas.
- [00:54:55.890]I know that there are some,
- [00:54:57.570]if you could give a little bit more
- [00:54:58.950]of a specific answer to that, if you could,
- [00:55:02.250]or Kayla's shaking her head strongly,
- [00:55:03.570]maybe we can tap her in too.
- [00:55:05.940]Yeah, there are some areas across campus
- [00:55:07.980]for electric car charging.
- [00:55:09.390]I know, for example, there's one outside of Hawks Hall,
- [00:55:12.210]which is home of our College of Business.
- [00:55:14.100]So there are a few areas.
- [00:55:16.170]In the chat earlier, in the webinar chat,
- [00:55:17.940]I did put a link to parking.
- [00:55:20.880]So if you have more questions about charging your car
- [00:55:23.280]or parking your car, that would be a great resource.
- [00:55:26.100]Again, as electronic cars become more and more available,
- [00:55:29.190]this could be an opportunity, the university may expand.
- [00:55:31.890]So I'd probably go right to the source to ask that question.
- [00:55:34.680]'Cause, again, some of us in this room may not be privy
- [00:55:37.282]to some of that expansion knowledge right now,
- [00:55:39.870]but it's probably more and more relative.
- [00:55:42.630]There was a question really quick about purchasing,
- [00:55:44.820]I'm assuming technology.
- [00:55:46.500]The University of Nebraska does have Husker Tech Store,
- [00:55:49.170]it's in the basement of the City Campus Union.
- [00:55:52.020]We do sell Apple products among other products too.
- [00:55:55.350]You do have a different kind of cost
- [00:55:58.020]than you would find maybe at a Best Buy
- [00:55:59.850]or stores like that too.
- [00:56:00.930]So during your orientation through new student enrollment,
- [00:56:05.070]this is a good time to check out the Husker Tech Store.
- [00:56:08.070]They also always have staff available
- [00:56:09.960]to answer big technology needs about access and everything.
- [00:56:14.460]But Lucas is very correct,
- [00:56:16.440]we do accommodate all kinds of technology, PCs, Apple.
- [00:56:21.060]I would take this opportunity to plug visiting campus
- [00:56:24.420]where when you visit campus,
- [00:56:25.770]you get to meet with somebody
- [00:56:27.090]from your academic interest area.
- [00:56:29.460]It could be a faculty member, it could be advisor.
- [00:56:31.560]And these are great questions to ask the academic colleges
- [00:56:34.590]because they're gonna know the classes you're taking,
- [00:56:36.990]the technology required for those classes.
- [00:56:39.180]So this is a great time that I'm going to suggest you,
- [00:56:42.090]visiting campus,
- [00:56:43.680]we have admitted student day coming up here on March 25th.
- [00:56:47.220]I'm gonna go ahead and put that into the chat.
- [00:56:50.400]We would love to see you on that day.
- [00:56:53.078]But, of course, we offer many different options.
- [00:56:55.050]We offer Husker weekdays, which are daily options.
- [00:56:58.860]Husker Saturdays, which are on Saturdays.
- [00:57:01.110]We getting the trend a little bit here.
- [00:57:03.270]And then Red Letter Days,
- [00:57:04.950]the Letter Days are a full day option.
- [00:57:06.780]There's so many ways to visit campus.
- [00:57:08.520]But it's a perfect way for me
- [00:57:11.250]to segue right into my spiel of come visit us on campus
- [00:57:15.470]so you can see the residence halls, eat in the dining halls,
- [00:57:19.560]but get all these really good questions answered
- [00:57:22.290]by the experts themselves too.
- [00:57:24.270]And that might be the great segue to some of the questions
- [00:57:26.610]about who do I speak about classes and can you connect me?
- [00:57:29.760]We would start with the suggestion that Kayla just outlined,
- [00:57:32.910]connecting with the Office of Admissions,
- [00:57:34.530]coming to one of our programs,
- [00:57:39.576]they can connect you with the right folks
- [00:57:40.560]on this institution to get all of your questions answered
- [00:57:42.990]specifically about classes.
- [00:57:47.040]A very specific question that I love about fire codes
- [00:57:50.340]and extension cords, and we would just ask that.
- [00:57:55.440]This, again, available in the community living guide.
- [00:57:57.720]We just ask that your extension cords
- [00:57:59.910]have the underwriters, the UL insignia on them,
- [00:58:03.450]and that's gonna be good enough for us
- [00:58:06.090]as it relates to that extension cord.
- [00:58:10.650]So we are getting through these questions, Kayla,
- [00:58:14.850]in sort of light speed, which is great.
- [00:58:18.000]Huge shout out to Keith and Kate on the background
- [00:58:21.090]because they are just typing furiously
- [00:58:22.890]and answering those questions.
- [00:58:26.190]But something that we offered last time,
- [00:58:28.650]that we'll continue to.
- [00:58:30.810]Our department in Housing and Dining
- [00:58:33.240]aspires to be a part of your admissions process,
- [00:58:37.650]and if there's any question that you might have
- [00:58:40.170]that is specific about your living arrangements,
- [00:58:43.560]we want to be that amazing customer service agent for you.
- [00:58:46.380]So just email us and we can get any question answered.
- [00:58:50.520]If it's not us,
- [00:58:51.353]we'll put you in contact with the right person.
- [00:58:53.580]But this idea of living on campus, we know, is a big idea,
- [00:58:57.600]is a big step for many students.
- [00:59:00.510]It was for Matt and I,
- [00:59:02.280]we can speak very candidly about that.
- [00:59:05.610]And so that is something that we take seriously,
- [00:59:08.400]our staff does,
- [00:59:09.233]and we wanna make sure
- [00:59:10.066]that you get all of your questions answered.
- [00:59:14.100]And so if you don't know where to go,
- [00:59:16.921]this is but one option for you among the many
- [00:59:20.430]that Kayla has talked about tonight
- [00:59:21.990]that we can get your questions answered for you.
- [00:59:26.640]Kayla, I can't believe we are staying on time here,
- [00:59:32.711]that was unexpected, but are we at that point?
- [00:59:36.930]No, we are on time.
- [00:59:38.220]Type in one more question
- [00:59:39.630]for one of our participants real quick,
- [00:59:41.340]so I'll get to that question regarding admitted student day.
- [00:59:43.890]But yes, this is that time.
- [00:59:45.900]We have answered most of the questions.
- [00:59:48.270]This presentation was recorded,
- [00:59:50.640]we'll probably not set us out via email,
- [00:59:52.500]but we'll post it on either a housing webpage
- [00:59:55.415]our admitted student webpage that we have access to this.
- [00:59:59.910]But also ask questions, whether it be directly to housing,
- [01:00:04.110]housing.unl.edu, admissions office, admissions@unl.edu.
- [01:00:09.720]Google is always your best friend to find us,
- [01:00:12.480]but we are here to answer those questions.
- [01:00:14.730]The Office of Admissions is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- [01:00:17.850]Central Standard Time Monday through Friday.
- [01:00:20.400]Our staff is dedicated to responding to your emails
- [01:00:23.460]within 48 hours, so feel free to reach out to us.
- [01:00:27.120]But thank you so much for visiting us tonight.
- [01:00:31.350]It's eight o'clock. It is game time, if you will.
- [01:00:34.620]So it's our last home basketball game tonight,
- [01:00:38.040]so if any of you have access to the Big Ten Network,
- [01:00:41.010]it is playing there.
- [01:00:43.080]But I'll allow, Lucas, if you wanna say any parting words
- [01:00:46.110]and then we'll say good night.
- [01:00:48.090]Absolutely. On behalf of Matt and I,
- [01:00:50.370]it's truly our pleasure to do these types of things.
- [01:00:53.280]This is what we love, this is why we're in the business.
- [01:00:56.280]We are so excited for you to take this next step with us.
- [01:01:01.980]We are excited to be your next home
- [01:01:04.530]and we'll do everything in our power
- [01:01:06.090]to make that hall, if you will, a home for you.
- [01:01:10.050]We are really excited to welcome you and see you on campus,
- [01:01:12.840]and on behalf of our department,
- [01:01:15.570]we are so grateful that you spent this time with us tonight.
- [01:01:19.200]So thank you so much, Kayla, wrap us up.
- [01:01:22.380]All right, everyone, have a great rest of your night,
- [01:01:24.480]and as always, go big red!
- [01:01:27.120]Have a good night, everybody.
