[00:00:15.180]What is the Perry Photo Photojournalism Challenge?
[00:00:18.210]The Perry Challenge is a 24 hour photo shoot
[00:00:20.520]to produce a photo essay based on a theme
[00:00:23.340]which this year is framing Gen Z.
[00:00:26.160]So why should you take part?
[00:00:28.530]I can give you 10,000 reasons why.
[00:00:30.930]The winner gets a $7,000 prize to pay for school.
[00:00:34.770]Runner up gets $2,000,
[00:00:36.240]and 3rd gets a thousand.
[00:00:37.710]And all participants will have their work judged
[00:00:40.050]by Pulitzer Prize winning photographers
[00:00:42.420]and other renowned photojournalist and editors.
[00:00:45.210]So, you're probably wondering what this entails.
[00:00:48.120]First, you have to register.
[00:00:50.010]Registration begins February 6th at noon
[00:00:53.220]and only the first 20 will be accepted into the challenge.
[00:00:56.160]However, there will be a 15 student wait list
[00:00:59.700]for you to still take part.
[00:01:02.040]Second, you have to keep the weekends
[00:01:04.020]of February 25th, 26th, and March 4th open,
[00:01:08.130]and the only camera that you can use
[00:01:10.020]will be the one from Code JMC which will be
[00:01:12.930]the Cannon R10 Mirrorless camera, this year.
[00:01:15.810]Second, you have to complete the canvas module
[00:01:18.120]for the challenges between registration and competition.
[00:01:21.750]The module takes you through what a photo essay is,

[00:01:25.860]and the dos and don'ts to be successful in the challenge.
[00:01:28.560]So what do you need to do to be competitive
[00:01:31.080]if selected for the challenge?
[00:01:32.850]First, you need to know how to use the camera
[00:01:34.980]which this year, like I said, is a Cannon R10 Mirrorless.
[00:01:38.370]So go ahead, go down to the checkout room,
[00:01:40.860]sign out the camera so that you can get comfortable with it.

[00:01:45.540]you are out using the camera, but what is the challenge?
[00:01:49.500]During the challenge, you're tasked with producing
[00:01:51.780]a photo essay on the theme, framing Gen Z.

[00:01:59.550]You have the next few weeks to really think

[00:02:09.180]You have to have people in your essay.

[00:02:12.960]so it has to be people-centric.
[00:02:15.060]The subjects of your essay should not be looking straight
