Nebraska USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) is reminding producers now is the time to make elections and enroll in the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2023 crop year. The signup period is open through March 15, 2023, and producers are encouraged to begin working with their USDA county Farm Service Agency (FSA) office now to complete the process.

[00:01:35.170]State FSA Executive Director John Berge encourage farmers to evaluate their program
[00:01:41.660]elections and enroll for the 2023 crop year,”
[00:01:45.660]ARC provides income support payments on historical base acres when actual crop
[00:01:49.660]revenue declines below a specified guaranteed level.
[00:01:53.660]PLC provides income support payments on historical base acres when the effective
[00:01:57.838]price for a covered commodity falls below its reference price.
[00:02:02.731]Covered commodities include barley, canola, large and small chickpeas,
[00:02:07.158]corn, flaxseed, grain sorghum, lentils, oats, dry peas, rapeseed,
[00:02:12.330]soybeans, sunflower seed and wheat.
[00:02:15.570]Producers can elect coverage and enroll in ARC-County or PLC on a crop-by-crop basis,
[00:02:22.424]or ARC-Individual for the entire farm, for the 2023 crop year.
[00:02:27.308]Although election changes for 2023 are optional, enrollment
[00:02:31.341](signed contract) is required for each year of the program.
[00:02:35.001]If a producer has a multi-year contract on the farm,
[00:02:39.001]it will be necessary to sign a new contract for the farm by the
[00:02:42.291]March 15th deadline if a 2023 election change is desired.
[00:02:46.373]If an election change is not submitted by the deadline of March 15, 2023,
[00:02:51.433]the election defaults to the current election for crops
[00:02:54.533]on the farm from the prior crop year.
[00:02:57.098]FSA State Executive Director advised that all program participants
[00:03:02.283]review their previous program elections.
