- [00:00:00.210]Welcome back, it's halftime.
- [00:00:01.230]Huskers matching up with
- [00:00:02.250]the Kansas State Wildcats, down in Kansas City.
- [00:00:04.410]Greg Sharp back on our Huskers Radio Network studios,
- [00:00:06.870]and delighted to be joined by the chancellor of the
- [00:00:08.460]University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:11.040]Basketball season, holiday season.
- [00:00:12.706]It been fun watching both our men and women's teams,
- [00:00:16.200]Chancellor.
- [00:00:17.033]Your thoughts about the basketball season?
- [00:00:18.420]Well, you know, it's been fun to watch.
- [00:00:20.250]Both of our teams, fun to watch teams this year.
- [00:00:23.370]You know, and certainly it is a tough stretch
- [00:00:26.460]that our men are in currently,
- [00:00:27.960]with playing a lot of ranked opponents.
- [00:00:30.840]Last three of their opponents been ranked in the top 15,
- [00:00:34.110]two of those games on the road.
- [00:00:36.273]That big win over Creighton that made everybody really happy
- [00:00:41.370]including this guy, at the start of that stretch.
- [00:00:44.340]And then that massive game last weekend,
- [00:00:47.418]against Purdue and PBA, and taking them to overtime,
- [00:00:51.600]the number four ranked team in the country.
- [00:00:53.131]You know, I was traveling this last week
- [00:00:55.843]and I just happened to be eating in a restaurant
- [00:00:58.800]and saw that Purdue had gone to number one in the rankings.
- [00:01:02.220]And I thought, "Well, you know,
- [00:01:03.390]we should definitely be right up there with them!"
- [00:01:04.980]you know, after we (laughs)
- [00:01:06.120]had that great game with Purdue.
- [00:01:08.048]And then tonight against K State.
- [00:01:10.530]So great to see our men playing so well,
- [00:01:13.650]and then our women's team, you know,
- [00:01:15.630]performing at a high level coming off of last year,
- [00:01:19.380]and had a great past three games.
- [00:01:21.913]A big win at Maryland,
- [00:01:23.447]getting that anchor off their back, so to speak.
- [00:01:29.460]And beating Maryland, is a top ranked team
- [00:01:32.065]and then this nice stretch of home games
- [00:01:34.530]that we have through the end of the year here
- [00:01:37.200]before they head to Indiana on New Year's Day.
- [00:01:39.300]So, lot of fun ahead, I think, in our basketball seasons.
- [00:01:42.570]Women will be at home tomorrow against Wyoming,
- [00:01:44.940]at PBA which has been really busy the last two days
- [00:01:48.330]with one of your favorite events,
- [00:01:49.740]and that's a graduation ceremony.
- [00:01:51.480]Yeah, Greg, I say this often,
- [00:01:53.310]you've heard me say it a lot over the past several years.
- [00:01:56.760]My two favorite days of the year are the start of school
- [00:02:00.390]in the fall as we welcome new students
- [00:02:02.520]to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and graduation.
- [00:02:05.670]Whether that's in our December commencement,
- [00:02:08.340]whether it's in our May commencement,
- [00:02:09.840]whether it's in our summer commencement.
- [00:02:11.520]And so we have had a very busy weekend
- [00:02:14.010]that we finished up this morning
- [00:02:16.980]with our commencement exercises for December,
- [00:02:20.340]graduate commencement yesterday at PBA,
- [00:02:23.520]and then our undergraduate ceremonies
- [00:02:25.380]there were this morning.
- [00:02:26.790]Another 1300 graduates from
- [00:02:29.310]the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:02:30.930]this weekend about 330 of those graduates,
- [00:02:34.260]professional degrees,
- [00:02:35.898]nearly a thousand undergraduate degree holders,
- [00:02:39.491]and on top of a year.
- [00:02:41.807]So I did a little bit of thinking about this
- [00:02:44.340]before we started commencement yesterday.
- [00:02:47.310]This calendar year 2022,
- [00:02:50.250]we will have awarded 5,540 degrees to Husker graduates,
- [00:02:57.270]which is a record for us.
- [00:02:59.271]Three of the last four years,
- [00:03:01.290]we've had record graduating classes
- [00:03:03.150]and we're contributing to
- [00:03:04.110]that workforce development in Nebraska
- [00:03:06.090]like we never have before in our history.
- [00:03:09.780]We've graduated a total of just over 312,000 degrees
- [00:03:14.340]from our institution, since we were founded 153 years ago.
- [00:03:18.690]And this weekend in particular,
- [00:03:21.690]we had some very special commencement speakers.
- [00:03:25.050]Our undergraduate ceremony this morning,
- [00:03:27.460]they heard from US Senator Deb Fisher
- [00:03:30.990]as a commencement speaker, a UNL alumna herself.
- [00:03:34.860]And she had a great message for
- [00:03:37.110]our student graduates this morning.
- [00:03:39.450]And then our graduate commencement every semester,
- [00:03:42.510]It's a big honor as a faculty member at
- [00:03:45.150]the University of Nebraska
- [00:03:46.446]to be selected to give the commencement address
- [00:03:49.710]to our masters and PhD graduates.
- [00:03:52.124]And yesterday's speaker was Katrina Jagodinsky,
- [00:03:55.650]who is a associate professor of history
- [00:03:58.380]here in our history department
- [00:03:59.790]in the College of Arts and Sciences,
- [00:04:01.260]and she had a great message for our students as well.
- [00:04:04.050]So just exciting to see the looks
- [00:04:07.050]on the faces of those students,
- [00:04:09.480]and their families that have worked so hard
- [00:04:11.640]to achieve this milestone in their life, of graduation.
- [00:04:15.334]And yesterday and today,
- [00:04:17.910]very special days for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:04:20.670]Fantastic, tip of the cap, turn the tassel.
- [00:04:22.740]Wonderful moment for all those young individuals.
- [00:04:25.350]Enjoy the holiday season,
- [00:04:26.670]and let's finish off this game in Kansas City.
- [00:04:29.400]Yeah, we're excited to be playing our old Big 12 friends,
- [00:04:33.785]you know, and go Big Red
- [00:04:36.900]Captain Jake,
- [00:04:37.733]We're back with second half coming up next.
