At each UNL commencement ceremony, students earning degrees receive their actual diploma on stage, a Nebraska tradition that very few major universities are committed to doing. Chancellor Ronnie Green has three questions for the Office of the Registrar staff who work behind the scenes to make it happen.

- [00:00:08.970]to our graduates and the culture of our university

- [00:00:15.840]and why is it so important to our graduates?
- [00:00:19.170]We have an amazing team
- [00:00:20.850]in the office of the university registrar.
- [00:00:23.370]They are meticulous in their work,
- [00:00:24.870]making sure that we have a diploma for every student,
- [00:00:27.900]that the student's name, degree, and award is accurate
- [00:00:31.650]and beautifully reflected in this diploma
- [00:00:33.600]that the student receives.
- [00:00:35.250]So you've been involved, Gail, for a long time with us.
- [00:00:38.010]You have a long career at the university.
- [00:00:40.770]What's it mean to you
- [00:00:42.120]to be part of such an important tradition?
- [00:00:45.000]I have been with the university for 38 years,
- [00:00:48.000]and it has been a very satisfying and rewarding experience
- [00:00:52.230]to assist students in their graduation clearance.
- [00:00:54.750]And then to hear the success stories of our students
- [00:00:58.290]who maybe overcame some tremendous challenges
- [00:01:01.920]to get their degree.
- [00:01:03.540]Why is it, you know, important for our students
- [00:01:06.180]to receive that diploma at commencement?

- [00:01:11.340]to feel that sense of pride and joy and great accomplishment
