[00:00:07.110]and today I will be briefly sharing
[00:00:10.590]some emerging media that you could incorporate
[00:00:12.690]into your classroom, at home, or beyond.
[00:00:16.920]Today what I'll be showing you
[00:00:18.660]is an application called Beat Blender.
[00:00:21.330]This is a web-based application
[00:00:22.920]that was developed by and is offered by Google Creative Lab.
[00:00:27.840]And is quite accessible.
[00:00:29.430]It's offered to users at no cost, so it's free to use.
[00:00:32.730]And the interface design is quite simple
[00:00:35.430]and easy to navigate.
[00:00:38.730]So Beat Blender is powered by artificial intelligence,
[00:00:42.330]more commonly known as AI.
[00:00:44.370]And specifically with this web-based application,
[00:00:48.030]Beat Blender uses something known as machine learning.
[00:00:52.380]And machine learning is an application
[00:00:55.080]of artificial intelligence in which the system or program
[00:01:01.380]uses artificial intelligence to
[00:01:05.340]like enable itself to improve experience
[00:01:09.600]without being explicitly programmed to do so.
[00:01:14.340]Yeah, so I will show Beat Blender now.
[00:01:19.500]So we first encounter the homepage of Beat Blender,
[00:01:21.750]and to enter into the application,
[00:01:23.340]I'll just hit the Play button.
[00:01:26.160]And then, we are met with
[00:01:28.200]what I think is quite a delightful interface.
[00:01:32.550]We have...
[00:01:34.740]a colorful music canvas.
[00:01:37.950]And then we have a few editable options.
[00:01:41.730]So with Beat Blender,
[00:01:44.100]what we can do is we have the option to drag or draw.
[00:01:48.330]So I can drag this icon around on the music canvas.
[00:01:51.990]And to the right, you'll see some squares shifting.
[00:01:57.120]So those are different beats
[00:01:58.770]that are pre-programmed on the music canvas.
[00:02:02.160]I personally like the draw option.
[00:02:04.590]So if I just toggle this little button down here to draw,
[00:02:08.790]I can now free draw on the music canvas.
[00:02:12.360]An application like this
[00:02:13.950]could be really fun to use in a classroom
[00:02:16.710]with young learners who are maybe emergent in literacy
[00:02:21.120]or encountering alphabetic fluency for the first time.
[00:02:24.690]So maybe the letter of the day is the letter B.
[00:02:30.930]So using my mouse pad, I'll draw the letter B.
[00:02:33.870]And then, to hear what the letter B may sound like,
[00:02:38.100]I'll hit the Play button down here.
[00:02:40.770]And this icon will move along the lines that I've drawn.
[00:02:47.130]Down here, I can pause the sound.
[00:02:51.180]Continue playing.
[00:02:53.130]I can change
[00:02:55.470]the speed of sound by adjusting the tempo.
[00:03:01.170]And then, if I maybe want to try different beats or sounds,
[00:03:05.040]I just will click the Edit Corners down here.
[00:03:08.550]And then I have a selection of preset beats
[00:03:12.360]from different genres of music.
[00:03:13.890]So maybe I want to try Pop Punk,
[00:03:17.460]which will shift the sound.
[00:03:19.170]Maybe I want to try Reggaeton.
[00:03:23.250]And then whenever I've finished editing,
[00:03:27.900]I'll just click Done.
[00:03:30.600]And then that will reprogram the musical canvas.
[00:03:35.430]And an application like this
[00:03:36.510]can be really great in your classroom
[00:03:38.490]to expand the experience of literacy
[00:03:41.310]as well as develop fine motor skills
[00:03:44.340]when interacting with tech.
[00:03:46.350]And it gives us an opportunity
[00:03:49.680]to experience musicality as well.
