- [00:00:04.140]10 years.
- [00:00:05.160]Dan, you've been involved with Innovation Campus
- [00:00:08.280]all the way back to the very beginning now.
- [00:00:10.590]What's it been like to be part of that development?
- [00:00:13.440]Well, I've probably run the gamut of every emotion
- [00:00:17.430]known to humankind,
- [00:00:19.710]whether it's been big highs and big lows, as you know,
- [00:00:22.560]it's not easy getting something like this
- [00:00:25.470]off of the ground, but it's been very satisfying,
- [00:00:29.340]and when you look at what we have now,
- [00:00:31.440]it's a great sense of pride
- [00:00:33.000]and I'm really grateful to have been a part of it.
- [00:00:35.850]So obviously Nebraska Innovation Campus is important
- [00:00:39.330]to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:00:41.040]but it's also important to the State of Nebraska and beyond,
- [00:00:44.190]so talk a little bit about that.
- [00:00:46.530]Well, you know, we have 58 partners
- [00:00:48.930]and a thousand people coming to work every day here.
- [00:00:52.410]But I think one of the things that really is great
- [00:00:55.320]about Innovation Campus is it gives us a platform
- [00:00:58.620]to do even more extraordinary things.
- [00:01:00.900]So when you look at our partnership
- [00:01:03.570]with USDA for the National Center for Resilient
- [00:01:07.020]and Regenerative Precision Agriculture,
- [00:01:09.810]the Heartlands Robotic Cluster,
- [00:01:12.090]and now we're working on a five-state consortium
- [00:01:15.750]to do research, workforce development
- [00:01:18.540]and tech transfer in AgTech,
- [00:01:21.510]it really gives the State the ability to playing
- [00:01:25.350]on those levels.
- [00:01:27.240]So Mary, you're a food science student here
- [00:01:29.700]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from Houston, Texas,
- [00:01:32.880]and you're starting your own company, your own business.
- [00:01:36.780]Tell us a little bit about that.
- [00:01:38.070]Right, so I'm working on a food-based startup,
- [00:01:40.590]working on a granola-like product,
- [00:01:42.660]and being a partner at NIC has been a huge part of that,
- [00:01:45.540]especially the food processing center.
- [00:01:47.700]So they've given me access to resources
- [00:01:49.710]like the product development lab,
- [00:01:51.510]experiential learning in their pilot plants,
- [00:01:53.730]great mentorship, and then, like,
- [00:01:55.200]seminars on food entrepreneurship.
- [00:01:56.940]So being here at Innovation
- [00:01:58.650]and surrounded by a microcosm of very innovative people
- [00:02:01.560]has been great for my business
- [00:02:02.970]and given me opportunities to pursue my passion
- [00:02:05.790]while still in college.
- [00:02:07.050]Big things happen at an Innovation Campus.
- [00:02:09.450]Looking forward to the next 10 years.
- [00:02:11.250]Yep, me too.
- [00:02:12.685](upbeat music)
